Chapter 24: Chapter 24
ANGELIQUE SLOAN’S POV
The way that Greyson’s facial expression turned quite softer when he saw Gwynneth right in front of him and beside me, made me shiver down my spine.
"It seems like the relationship between the two of you is far deeper than I imagined," I said, with the intention of leaving. "I heard from her conversation with my mother that she hasn't been able to meet you for years, and I guess that's true," I added.
Greyson faked a cough as he rapidly shook his head. "T-that's not the case, Angelique. Don't get too ahead of your assumptions," he mumbled. "It's just that... I wasn't expecting that you'd return here with someone else. I was waiting for you to come back here with Lian, or at least a client of mine," he explained further.
"You don't have to lie to yourself just because someone else is here, Greyson." Gwynneth randomly reached for his arm, then clung onto it. "I know that you've also missed me as much as I do."
It infuriates me how Gwynneth forced herself to change her pitch. It was as if she was intentionally trying to flirt with him right in front of me.
"Get off of me, Gwynneth." Greyson harshly pushed her out of his office at the same time that he pulled me in instead. "I have no reason to lie. I can literally shout in a huge crowd how much I don't give a sh*t about you. I haven't even thought of you for all these years that you've been gone."
Gwynneth bit her lower lip. "There's no way that's true, Greyson. I can see right through you. Have you already forgotten that I'm the only person who could detect whenever you were putting on a facade?" she muttered as she stepped into his office again.
Greyson arched a brow. "I don't know why you're pretending to know me so well, Gwynneth. Get out of my office and don't you dare show yourself in front of me ever again... unless you want to die in my hands," he threatened her, which somehow made her softly shriek.
Instead of following Greyson's words, Gwynneth insisted on staying inside his office. She even went to the corner where most of his files were being stored. Gwynneth had the urge to browse through all of those even without his permission.
"I think I should be the one to leave your office," I muttered silently, causing him to shake his head, as if to tell me that I should stay put.
Greyson left me behind and hastily went to Gwynneth's side. He attempted to steal all the files from her hands, but she immediately hid them behind her, causing Greyson to almost lose his balance.
This vile woman dared to make an attempt to kiss him.
"Gwynneth Gregoria." Greyson coldly muttered her name. "Don't you f*cking make me angrier than I already am. If you're claiming that you're the only person who knows me well, then you should also know best that I don't have a merciful soul whenever I'm furious."
Gwynneth purposely let go of the files that she was hiding behind, then cupped Greyson's cheeks, as if they were that close with one another. "I don't know what you've been through while I was gone for you to become this ruthless of me, Greyson. You weren't like this when I was still with you," she said as she caressed his cheeks.
I thought that Greyson would give in to her just like he did when Airi was trying to win him over, but he didn't. Greyson tightly held both of Gwynneth's wrists as he forcefully dragged her with him outside his office.
There was nothing I could do but stand by and watch their continuous drama.
"Are you sure about how you're treating me, Greyson?" Gwynneth's voice turned more serious as her eyebrows furrowed. "You would absolutely regret this later on, especially that secretary of yours. I'll make the two of you regret what you're doing to me this day."
Greyson pushed her to the wall as he let her go. "I don't care about what you're planning. You have no capabilities to do anything, Gwynneth. You're a lowlife. You're nothing worthy. You're trash in and out, you shouldn't have bothered to come all the way here just to make yourself look miserable," he replied.
He didn't let her respond any further as he returned inside his office, locking the door as he sat on his swivel chair. Greyson placed his elbow above his table as he massaged his temple.
"Sorry, Greyson. I didn't know that the relationship between the two of you was that complicated. If I had known from the start, I wouldn't have bothered bringing her here. I was the one who dragged her all the way here, after I heard that she was searching for you," I sincerely apologized in a lengthy manner.
If only I could kneel in front of him, I would've done so, just to gain his forgiveness.
Greyson shook his head. "There's nothing for you to apologize for. I haven't told you about Gwynneth, so your action was understandable, and whatever you felt earlier was valid."
I pulled a stool from the corner of his office and sat near his table. "So, are you willing to tell me about Gwynneth now or..." I was quite hesitant with my query, but I couldn't take it back now that it had slipped through my mouth.
"As you can guess, Gwynneth and I used to be in a relationship. But that's all in the past, and I have no intention of getting back together with her, no matter what happens," Greyson initially said.
"For how long have the two of you been together?" I asked.
Greyson shrugged along with a pout. "I don't quite remember. The only thing that I can say is that we were definitely one another's greatest love. That's a fact that neither of us could ever deny, even if we've been separated by fate," he replied with such a serious tone.
My fists formed into a tight ball as I felt the same aching sensation in my chest. "You said that you have no intention of getting back together with her, but the way you spoke now just contradicted your first statement, Greyson," I muttered.
