Chapter 26: Chapter 26

ANGELIQUE SLOAN’S POV

Even though I knew that Greyson had already seen the crime scene that night, I still pretended that he had no clue about it when my mother mentioned it, thinking that it wouldn’t be great if she figured out that Greyson knows I’m a murderer.

“Go on and try; it’s not like Greyson would believe a word you’d tell him. He knows me damn well and loves everything about me,” I bluffed, hoping that she would back down from her blackmail against me.

My mother picked up her phone from her purse, browsing through it. “Well, this might be something that would make you change your mind,” she said with a grin on her lips, as if she were suppressing her laughter.

As much as I was curious, I patiently waited for her to show me her phone, which I shouldn’t have done. I should’ve run away. I shouldn’t have stayed here for too long.

I always end up thinking of doing something differently from what I had in mind the first time that I came here.

“What the f*ck is this about, Gwynneth?” I asked the woman behind my mother while I was occupied with watching the video on my mother’s phone. “Why the heck are you with him that night? From what you said, you haven’t seen him for years. Then, what is this about?” I could no longer hide the anger and jealousy that were flowing through my veins.

I would definitely burst out in rage if only we weren’t in a public space. I would’ve dragged her down and continuously slapped her until her cheeks turned numb from the pain.

But there was nothing I could do other than express my emotions through my words.

“It’s as you can see. The two of us were making love at night. It just shows that we love each other for real, and we’ve missed one another tremendously,” Gwynneth answered, stepping forth. “Why? You’ve got a problem with what you’re seeing? Doesn’t it turn you on? Is your relationship with Greyson small compared to ours?” she consecutively showered me with queries that were all for the purpose of mocking me.

"Don't tell me that you also saw what I did that night?" I asked her.

From the way that Gwynneth's eyebrows furrowed, I can guess that she was solely focused on her intimate moment with Greyson and didn't give a damn about her surroundings.

"Should I tell her about it, Angelique?" my mother suddenly butted in.

I raised my index finger in front of my lips to warn her not to talk about it.

"The night my husband, your father, died, these two were making love in that same forest. Do you understand what I'm trying to say here?" My mother gave me a smug expression before she decided to hide her phone back in her purse.

My mind is filled with disgust for Greyson, but I don't know exactly what I'm supposed to feel right now. I'm too conflicted with the recent occurrences around me.

"I'll leave for now." I turned around and hastily walked away from the two of them.

I need to give my brain time to process everything. If I don't, I will end up ruining my entire life worse than it already is.

As soon as I returned to Greyson's office, I noticed that he looked at me with concern in his eyes. "What happened? Did you finish her off?" he asked, trying to confirm whether I killed my mother or not.

I didn't bother giving him an answer. I didn't even tell him about my mother's threat, since it was redundant. Either way, I have no energy to communicate with him right now, especially right after I've watched the whole video of him kissing Gwynneth and the several times he played with her body.

I was picking up my things from his desk when I suddenly felt his large hand grab my forearm. "What's wrong with you, Angelique? Did something happen back there? Why are you not looking me in the eye?" he continuously asked.

I still didn't give him the attention he was seeking. When I finished packing up my necessities, I left his office. Fortunately, Greyson's grip on my forearm wasn't that tight.

My decision is already fixed. I won't stop haunting my mother until I've sent him to where my father is.

"Are you really going to ignore me?" Greyson yelled from behind.

I thought that he wasn't going to follow me, but I could sense how his footsteps were hastily approaching and coming my way.

"Did your mother threaten you to not speak to me ever again?" Greyson's random query made me stop my tracks, so he was able to block my way as he pinned me to the wall. "So something did happen, huh?" he whispered.

From our close distance, I could feel how hot his breath was as it kept reaching my cheeks. I could barely maintain our eye contact. If only I hadn't seen that video of them earlier, I would've spread my legs at this point.

"I'm just not in the mood for any useless talk right now, Greyson. Get out of my way," I coldly said, as if that would actually work on him.

"I doubt that's the real reason, Angelique. I can read your eyes like an open book," Greyson murmured as he slowly moved his head closer to my neck. "Tell me what happened, or I'll punish you here. There's a lot of people who can see us from this view. Would you sacrifice your dignity over some small story?" he demanded.

I bit my lower lip at the same time that I heaved out a loud sigh. "I just saw a video of you and Gwynneth together. It was a recent one, and now I'm merely feeling perplexed about everything," I admitted. "Feel happy now?" I rolled my eyes as I tried to push him away, but he wouldn't budge as his body was firm and his balance was still.

"What video are you talking about?" he asked, a hint of curiosity evident in his voice.

"Something like a sex tape?" I shrugged my shoulders with a blank expression.
