Chapter 49: Chapter 49
The next day, both Nancy and Primrose were extremely excited about their trip to Country Y. They woke up early to do their makeup and put on beautiful dresses. Today, Primrose chose a simple black off-shoulder dress that accentuated her slender neck and alluring shoulders. She also added a pair of luxury-brand sunglasses to look even cooler. Primrose was very satisfied with her current appearance.
Nancy, on the other hand, wore a white, elegant spaghetti-strap dress that made her fair skin stand out. They booked a car to the airport early in the morning, and as they entered, almost every eye turned towards them due to their captivating looks. Primrose and Nancy enjoyed this attention, held their heads high, and moved forward, pulling their suitcases.
Some people approached them, wanting to help carry their luggage, but they politely declined, feeling uncomfortable with the suggestive glances from those men, as if they were making some implied invitation for a one-night stand. However, both of them had no interest in entering such casual relationships anymore; in fact, they found it distasteful. They coldly rejected the advances and walked away.
When they boarded the plane, they finally had some peace around them. Primrose and Nancy were both tired from waking up early to do their makeup and hair, so they closed their eyes and took a nap.
After landing, Primrose suddenly received a call from her mother. She felt a bit surprised, and an ominous premonition arose in her heart. "Primrose, where are you? Why didn't you come to the company today?" Her mother's voice was gentle and pleasant, but it made Primrose furrow her brows. How did her mother know that she wasn't at the company today? There was only one possibility: Joel must have informed her.
Primrose's eyes turned cold with the visible speed at the thought of Joel. "Today, I took a day off, so I didn't go to the company." Despite feeling irritated thinking about Joel, she didn't want to reveal any emotions to her mother and tried to sound calm as usual. Her mother, upon hearing this, became concerned. "Are you sick, sweetie? Should I come to visit you? If not, I can call a private doctor to come and check on you."
Her parents always spoiled Primrose, so naturally, they were worried when they heard she took a day off unexpectedly. Primrose smiled lightly and replied, "No, it's alright. I'm perfectly fine. I took the day off because I'm going on a trip with Nancy."
Her mother's concern eased after hearing that it was just a vacation. She continued, "Where are you traveling to? Is Joel going with you? As husband and wife, you should travel together often to strengthen your bond and become closer."
Those words were familiar to Primrose, but they were from a time when her relationship with Joel was still intact. Now that she had decided on a divorce, she didn't want to pretend anymore and be in a seemingly good relationship with Joel. "Mom, you know very well where Joel is right now. Besides, I'm glad you called, but if it's just to check my location or defend Joel, then don't bother. We have decided to get a divorce soon."
Primrose said nothing without wanting to continue the conversation and hung up, leaving her mother and Joel bewildered.
"What exactly happened, Joel?" Bà July was a mother who understood her daughter very well. Although Primrose had been pampered since childhood, she had a strong and principled character, never getting angry without reason.
So, if Primrose was angry to this extent, things must have been far from simple.
Earlier in the morning, when Primrose was preparing breakfast, Joel hurriedly came to her door and asked her to call Primrose and find out why she didn't go to the company. At first, July was also surprised, but Joel explained that there was a slight misunderstanding between him and Primrose, so he couldn't contact her directly. July took Joel's word for it and immediately called Primrose to help him out.
After the conversation ended, July thought that the misunderstanding between the two of them was minor. Initially, Joel didn't want to trouble Primrose's parents or let them know about the problems in their relationship. However, when he waited at the company and didn't see Primrose coming, he became really worried that something might have happened to her. That's why he hurriedly went to her parent's house.
Originally, he didn't want to reveal everything, but looking at July's face, he eventually recounted everything from the beginning.
"Mom, despite what you might think, I still want to say that Auntie and I have nothing between us. I have rejected her advances numerous times, and my heart belongs only to Primrose."
The days when Primrose wasn't around were dull and empty for Joel. He missed her deeply and wanted to rush to her side and hold her in his arms.
He hoped that after a few days when Primrose had calmed down, they could talk openly and clear up all misunderstandings. But it seemed that things were not that simple and were gradually slipping out of his control.
Joel was genuinely worried about losing Primrose, and he knew that their relationship would end with an actual divorce document if he did. He wanted to be by Primrose's side for the rest of his life and never be apart.
July patted Joel's hand gently, showing that she trusted him. She had a vague idea about the issue of lying with Auntie, and due to some coincidences, Primrose misunderstood and thought that Joel was having an affair with her, betraying their relationship.
As for why she chose to trust Joel, it was because she was an experienced person who could understand both Joel's and Primrose's personalities. If Joel really went back to Auntie and abandoned Primrose, he would have gladly signed the divorce papers instead of appearing worried and anxious at their home today.
"Alright, thank you for trusting me. I will talk to Primrose, and we will definitely not get divorced."
Joel made a solemn promise that no matter what, he would not divorce Primrose. He wanted to be with her for the rest of his life and never separate from her.
"Good luck. By the way, you came here so early; you probably haven't had breakfast yet, right? Stay here and have breakfast with me and Primrose's dad."
July had just finished cooking breakfast, and it was still warm. She kindly invited Joel to have breakfast with them, but he shook his head.
"No need; I don't want to trouble you. I need to go to the company now; I'll ask the secretary to get me some breakfast later."
“Anyway, thanks for helping me calling Primrose and ask for her situation. I will come and see your when Primrose return to our city, bye.”
After saying goodbye, Joel left Primrose's parents' house. Right now, he has to go to the company to deal with the unfinished business of waiting for Primrose outside her workplace for the past few days. He needed to quickly resolve the upcoming matters so that he could spend more time with Primrose when she returned.
