Chapter 48: Chapter 48
Looking into Primrose's bewildered and curious eyes, the man with smoky gray hair became angry.
"Primrose, you don't remember who I am, do you?" His voice was low and icy as he spoke.
Primrose's smile stiffened, and she awkwardly turned her head away to avoid his gaze. She glanced at Nancy, seeking help, but Nancy just shook her head and shrugged, clearly not remembering him either.
It was evident that even Nancy couldn't recall who he was.
"Primrose, alright, it seems like you've had quite a few boyfriends over the years. Let me reintroduce myself. I'm Andrew, your ex-boyfriend."
The man almost gritted his teeth while uttering each word, and his tone turned bitterly cold, making Primrose shiver slightly. Nevertheless, she mustered a faint smile.
"I remember now. I'm sorry, my memory isn't great."
Andrew was Primrose's ex-boyfriend from a few years ago. At that time, he appeared more composed and mature than he is now. When they were together, he was the CEO of a highly renowned jewelry design company, which kept him extremely busy. They barely had time for proper dates, and their interactions could be counted on one hand.
Moreover, Primrose was the kind of person who preferred a carefree attitude and felt suffocated when in the company of someone too serious and mature. It didn't take long for her to get bored and break up with Andrew.
The reason for their breakup was quite typical: she didn't like being with someone too cold and busy. Additionally, on holidays, Andrew would just keep transferring money to Primrose for her to buy whatever she liked or have expensive jewelry delivered to her doorstep, leaving little time for them to have a proper meal together. Primrose needed someone to be by her side, not just a constant ATM machine.
Thinking back on their past, Primrose's gaze shifted slightly. Andrew stood on the other side, narrowing his eyes, and forced a faint smile as he added, "Do you remember now, my angel? When you left, I was sad for a long time. How could you be so heartless as to forget who I am right after breaking up? That's unfair."
Now that the server had brought their food, blocking their view, Andrew couldn't see the slight reluctance on Primrose's face. Of course, she couldn't respond to his words, as Andrew had indeed changed so much that Primrose couldn't recognize him anymore.
"Why so silent? Have you become mute after the breakup?" Andrew sneered, and Primrose reluctantly replied.
"Who said you've changed so much? The last time we met, you still had that cold and distant demeanor that could freeze someone for a thousand years, both intimidating and terrifying."
Andrew's anger seemed to escalate upon hearing this.
"And isn't it because you said you didn't like men who were too cold? I tried to become more carefree like you, but in the end, as soon as you said you wanted to break up, you disappeared without a trace and cut off all contact."
The man gave a cold snort and then sat down next to Primrose.
"Fine, let's stop talking about it. Can we eat together now? I feel bored eating alone, so let's share a table. I'll pay for this meal later."
Primrose, feeling somewhat guilty, didn't dare to refuse, especially with Nancy sitting across from them, looking eager for the gossip.
"Alright, Primrose, what do you think of me now? Do you consider getting back together with me?" Andrew was direct in his conversation, and Primrose was equally candid in her response.
"Perhaps, but wait until after I divorce my current husband."
Primrose winked at Andrew, feeling a familiar closeness with him that allowed her to let her guard down more easily. Andrew was visibly taken aback by Primrose's words and hesitated for a moment before asking uncertainly, "You're married now? To whom? Is he a carefree guy, not too boring like you wanted?"
Primrose nodded, took a sip of water, and then replied, "Yes, I'm married, but my husband is cheating on me, so we're getting divorced."
Andrew's eyes lit up.
"I don't mind dating women who have been married before. If you want to continue with me after the divorce, just say the word. Based on your appearance and demeanor, I can make an assessment."
His words were half-joking and half-serious, which made Primrose feel at ease. She glanced at Nancy across the table, furrowing her brows.
"Well, you'll have to go through my best friend's screening process first. I only love men who have been approved by her as kind and suitable for me."
Primrose's words were not entirely a joke. After her experience with Joel, she seriously asked Nancy to evaluate the men around her, especially before she began any new relationships.
She didn't want to get entangled with someone like Joel again. One painful experience was enough.
"Okay, so you think I'm alright for now? Andrew responded.
" Okay, you just passed the first round. You'll have to try harder in the following rounds," Nancy smiled and replied.
The atmosphere among the three of them became more intimate and cheerful than ever. Andrew was polite and didn't mention Primrose's current marriage, only asking about other matters.
"Where are you living and working now? When I have free time, I'll invite you for a meal."
Primrose mentioned the name of her company and honestly admitted that she was currently living at Nancy's place after leaving Joel. Andrew didn't comment on this matter and simply added, "Are you interested in taking a trip to get over the divorce? Next week, I plan to go on a trip to country Y. If you and Nancy are interested, I can invite both of you and cover all the expenses."
Andrew looked into Primrose's eyes as he spoke. The mention of country Y made Primrose feel quite coincidental.
"Oh, really? Nancy and I are also going to Country Y. We've already booked our tickets. When you get there, if we have the chance, we can meet up."
"Alright, let's exchange contact information. We can get in touch when the time comes."
Andrew and Primrose exchanged phone numbers before continuing with their dinner. After finishing the meal, Andrew stood up, took the initiative to pay the bill, and offered to give Primrose and Nancy a ride home, but they declined, explaining that they had driven there themselves.
"Alright then, drive safely. See you later," Andrew said as he bid them farewell.
When only the two of them were left, Nancy winked and playfully patted Primrose's shoulder, speaking with enthusiasm, "I think Andrew is not bad at all. After you're done with Joel, you can consider making him your second husband."
Primrose sighed. Nancy was still as nosy as ever. Earlier, with Andrew present, she had been more reserved and spoke less.
"We'll see. For now, I want things to happen naturally."
Primrose didn't want to rush into a relationship, only to have it end as quickly as a gust of wind. That would be too painful and exhausting.
Nancy didn't continue asking, but she already had the answer she wanted. Primrose currently didn't want to rush into another relationship, but her impression of Andrew was quite positive. At least, after their breakup, he made an effort to become the carefree and playful person that Primrose admired, and this touched her.
