CHAPTER 15

SOMEWHERE UNKNOWN

Two feminine figure stood before a very huge door, if possible 9 feet tall. Their hair was ruffled roughly covering most of their faces. Placing their palm on the sensor beside the door, a green scanned through.

“ Recognized” The sensor announced and the huge door slowly opened. Stepping in, the door shut close. They trailed through the long aisle with their heads bowed. Robots were seen lined up at both the right and left side of the aisle.

With the way the two figure trailed through, one need not told that they were familiar with the place. They white fluorescence bulb shone brightly, making it look like it was heaven.

They both stopped on getting to yet another door but it wasn’t as huge as the first one.

The door automatically opened by itself, revealing six people seated in a boardroom set-up, each having a laptop before them. They were facing a lady who was seated in a much bigger chair, indicating she’s the ' Boss'.

Everyone seated turned their heads towards the door and their eyes widened as the two ladies raised their heads up. Their face came to view and it was seen that they were identical twins.

“ Opal…Jade!” A lady called, standing from her seat. She too was a totally replica of the twins meaning they were triplets.

She rushed to the two and pulled them in a hug which they returned.

“ I’m so happy you guys are here. We were just talking about you two” The lady said, breaking from the hug.

“ Are you both ok?” She asked and got a nod from Opal and Jade.

“ Opal, Jade, Ruby” The lady presumed to be the boss called and the triplets walked over to her.

“ It’s a good thing to see you both here” the lady said with a smile referring to Opal and Jade.

“ Sure” Opal and Jade replied.

“ Ermm.. Madelyn” Another lady among them called.

“ Shouldn’t we ask them how they managed to escape from the Sentinels headquarters?” The lady asked.

“ You’re right Liz” Madelyn ( the presumed boss) replied.

“ So tell me Opal and Jade….how did you both escape?” She asked, turning her gaze to the triplets.

“ The Mutant Underground saved us” Jade was the first to speak up.

“ What? The Underground?!” Carter, who was among them exclaimed in shock.

“ Yes. As were speaking to you guys now, the Sentinels regional headquarters is nothing but a pile of ashes” Opal replied.

“ Oh really?” Madelyn who seemed less worried hummed.

“ Ok. You both should go clean yourselves up. We have some important stuffs to discuss” Madelyn added.

“ Ok” The two replied and left together with Ruby.

“ Madelyn, why do you seem all relaxed about this whole thing? We must look for a way to save all captured mutants before the Underground does” Liz insulted, worry written visibly on her face.

“ Oh Liz, Liz, Liz” Madelyn called.

“, The moment to learn to stop getting all worked up over petty matters and focus mainly on your goal…the better it will become for you…. Because that’s exactly how I do my things” She added with a smirk.

Hudson and Alvara slowly opened their eyes only to see themselves in a room and on top of a bed. Not just any room, their room in the Underground.

They saw everyone gathered around them and surprisingly Blink was also there. They both jerked up the bed only for a sharp pain to hit their brain and they laid back.

“ Careful you two” Ben said.

“How did we get here?” Hudson asked as they both slowly sat up.

“ Blink informed us and we came to your rescue” Leriel replied.

“ But seriously, where is Nova? She wasn’t with you guys. Does it mean the Sentinels still have her?” John asked.

Hudson, Alvara and Blink bowed their heads in sadness, not knowing how to break the news to them.

“, Why aren’t you saying anything Blink?” John asked, feeling uncomfortable with their silence. Alvara finally looked up.

“ We’re sorry but………Nova…is……..” The words hung on her neck.

“Nova is what?” John snapped impatiently.

“ Nova………is……..dead” Alvara finally announced and shock ran through everybody.

“ What?........Is this some kind of a joke or what?” Polaris exclaimed.

“ Alvara…what…are…you…saying?” Leriel muttered, not wanting to believe what he just heard.

“, Alvara…is…right. Nova was killed by…Lucan. He shot her when Hudson and Alvara refused to combine their powers” Blink muttered sadly.

“ We’re sorry” Alvara and Hudson mumbled in guilt.

“ Lucan!” Polaris bawled, hatred and anger visibly seen on her face.

“ How dare him, who does he think he is” She seethed and barged out.

“ Polaris..wait” Leriel called and went after her.

John on the other hand froze on the spot on the news Alvara announced to him. He wasn’t even moving neither was he saying anything.

“ John” Blink called faintly and John left immediately.

“ Join wait” Blink called and went after him too.

Alvara climbed down the bed, shooting Hudson one last resentful glare before leaving.

Seeing as everyone left, guilt filled Hudson’s heart as he couldn’t help blame himself. He turned to Ben and hugged him immediately.

“ Dad…I’m sorry…. This is all my fault” He mumbled as Ben shush him.

“ Polaris wait” Leriel called out still after Polaris who was heading outside.

Staring at her facial expression, one could understand that she was gonna do something deadly. Leriel caught up with her and quickly grabbed her wrist, stopping her.

“ Polaris stop” He said, panting lightly.

“ Leriel just let go of my hand” Polaris warned in a clinched jaw.

“ Com’on…what are you gonna do now?” Leriel inquired.

“ I’m going to kill that disdainful man” Polaris yelled out angrily as her tears gathered up.

“ How dare him kill Nova…..who gave him that right?!” She thundered finally letting her tears fall. Leriel pulled her to a hug immediately.

“ Please don’t try to stop me Leriel, that man deserve to die” She sobbed.

“ Suush……calm down Polaris. Everything will be fine…everything will be fine” Leriel shushed, kissing her hair as she continued crying.

Alvara sat on the pavement, glaring angrily at the sky. Her heart was arching in pain thinking about Nova. Even though both of them weren’t close but still, she couldn’t help but fill guilty with the fact that it was partly her fault.

“ I should have combined powers with Hudson……..why didn’t I do it?” She mumbled to herself.

“ Alvara” A voice called prompting her to look up.

Seeing Hudson standing before her, she hissed angrily standing on her feet. She made to go but Hudson quickly grabbed her wrist.

“ Alvara wait” He said but Alvara glared angrily at him before flinging his hand off.

“ What?” She snapped with folded arms.

“ I know you’re angrily with me and….. you have every right to……..but believe me when I said that I never meant to do against the plan”

“I saw………..

“ Are you done?” Alvara cut him off and Hudson sighed sadly not knowing where to start explaining.

“ I see you’re done” Alvara said and turned to leave.

Once again Hudson grabbed her wrist but this time around, he pinned her to a wall.

“ Why on earth won’t you believe me?” Hudson yelled at her.

“ How else do you want me to explain this whole thing to you?” With what Hudson said, Alvara couldn’t help but let out an angry scoff, looking away.

“Alvara believe me.. I saw Sentinel cops approaching us, there were about 10 of them. I don’t know why you couldn’t see them but I’m sure of what I saw” Hudson explained in a calm tone, searching through her eyes to see if she believes him.

Alvara too was searching through his eyes to dictate if he was telling the truth and the anger she felt towards him vanished in the thin air on realization that he is telling the truth.

“ Fine.. I believe you. Let go of me” She said pushing him off and left.

Hudson let out a satisfactory sigh as happiness ran through him that she finally believed him.

“ For once the guilt was already killing me” He heaved.

“ But seriously..why was I worried with the fact that she was angry with me?” He mumbled to himself.

“ John left since yesterday and still isn’t back yet. I’m worried if he is ok” Blink wondered.

“ Calm down…. I’m sure he just went to clear his head off” Ben assured.

“ What if he ends up doing something…….” Blink looked up and saw John approaching.

Mere looking at him, he looks terrible. His hair are all messy and his clothes are torn and dirty. Blink rushed to him.

“ John are you ok? Where have you been, we were all worried about you” She questioned at once.

“ I’m ok” John mumbled plainly, heading upstairs without sparing anyone a glance.

“ I know you’re not ok John…. It’s written all over your face” Blink sighed.

After having a refreshing bath and changing his clothes, John sat on the bed staring blankly at the floor as tears roll down his cheeks.

“ John” A voice call and he quickly wiped hid tears before looking up to see Blink standing at the door.

“ Can I come in?” Blink asked and he nodded.

Blink entered walking over to him.

“ Some ginger tea” She offered and John collected before she sat beside him on the bed.

“ How are you feeling.. now?” She asked.

“ I’m ok” John muttered faintly.

“ You’re lying you know that” Blink implied.

“ I’m not” John replied staring at the cup in his hand.

“ You can’t lie to me John, it’s written all over your face. I am your friend so you can share how you feel with me” Blink expressed.

“ I have to be strong, I am Thunderbird, remember? If I am down then what do I expect the others to do?” John asked.

“ You’re Thunderbird not a rock that doesn’t have feelings. You’re a human too and no one expects you to be strong all the time especially not now” Paisley explained.

“ It’s a normal for you not to be ok, you can cry if you want to…..no one will look down at you.Instead we will all support you and I’m here for you…..always” She assured and looked up only to see those green eyes piercing his.

Even though they had no visible pupil on them, John could see the sincerity in them. He tightened his jaw as tears pricked his eyes.

“ I never…. imagined that I’ll loose my after so soon after loosing my parents. She was……all I had but now….. she’s no more” John blubbered as he allowed his tears to fall freely.

“ I don’t know what to do…I don’t know how to live my life without her….

“ This is all my fault. I shouldn’t have sent her on that stupid mission….. I was supposed to protect her….she was my responsibility but….I couldn’t even do that. Now…. She’s no more” He mumbled and broke down in tears.

Seeing him crying, Blink felt hurt and she immediately hugged him. John hugged her back, tightening the hug.

“ It’s ok John.. you shouldn’t blame yourself. I’m sure Nova won’t be happy to see you like wherever she is” She shushed, patting his back gently.

“ It hurt so much….it hurts” John mumbled amidst tears.

“ I’m sure my parents will totally disappointed in me. I couldn’t protect my own sister” He sobbed and Blink pulled out from the hug, gently cupping his cheeks.

“ Don’t say that. I’m sure your parents will be proud that their son grown to Thunderbird, a caring, strong willed and brave fighter. And I’m sure Nova will be more proud of you when you bring her death to justice” Blink said with a smile on her face. John nodded slightly before pulling her back to a hug.

“ Everything will be ok” Blink assured.

Breaking from the hug, John wiped his tears.

“ How do feel now?” Blink asked and he let out a deep sigh.

“ A little bit better and relieved” He replied.

“ Yeah you better be. Just take a look at your handsome face in the mirror…you’ve ruined it with your tears” Blink teased and let John let a slight laugh.

“ Much better. You look way more handsome when you smile. Tell me, how to expect to get all these lady drooling when your face is that horrible?” She asked making John laugh the more.

“ Thanks a lot Blink. I feel relieved now” John said.

“ What are friends for? You can always count on me and I promise…….. I’ll always by your side” Blink replied and got a broad smile from John which she returned.

“ Best of friends?” She asked positioning her for a fist bump.

“ Best of friends” John replied with a chuckle, giving her a fist bump…………
