CHAPTER 16

Polaris decided to take a stroll away from the Underground. She needed to clear her head off so many things and she can’t do it in the underground. She didn’t care if it was quit dangerous as she put on a hoodie, covering most of her face.

She left through the backyard without informing anyone, not even Leriel because she knows he will object.

After strolling down the empty bush filled with nothing else but tree’s and grasses, she decided to take a rest under a tree. She let out a deep sigh as the thought of Nova flashed her mind.

“ I can’t believe she’s no more” She muttered to herself. Looking down to her belly she rubbed it gently though her belly wasn’t yet big. She’s only but 3 months pregnant.

A smile formed on her lips as she remembered the first time she met Eclipse.

“ Do you know how I met your father?” She asked smiling broadly.

FLASHBACK

Polaris and Thunderbird heard about Eclipse and met with him in a confined restaurant. Eclipse then, was nothing but a Colombian mutant working as an enforcer with his drug cartels.

“ We heard you smuggle drugs but also smuggle mutants across the border into Mexico. I must say, you’re pretty smart” Thunderbird commended Eclipse who just let out a scoff.

“ I just had some extra space on my transport so..... I sold passage” He replied plainly.

“ You know drug dealing is illegal in the whole world and if eventually you get caught…then you’re sure spending the rest of your life behind bars” Polaris said but got a snort from Eclipse indicating he wasn’t bothered at all.

“ I’ve the in this for years without being caught. I ain’t no fool to get caught after going this far” He bragged.

“ But is this the life you really want Leriel?” Thunderbird threw the question at him and Eclipse’s face dropped in sadness.

“ We know everything. We know you were forced to do this and that’s why we want to help you. We want to free you from this violent drug cartel cause that is not where a mutant should be” Polaris said.

“ We want you to join us and fight against the Sentinels and th Purifier’s. These people are our main enemy” She added and Eclipse looked up at her, guilt written on his face.

“ Do you think I can do it?” He asked.

“ Of course you can…you’re Eclipse” Thunderbird replied, flashing him a reassuring smile.

3 YEARS LATER

Polaris and Eclipse became fond of each other as Polaris had taken Eclipse under her wings and taught him how to embrace his power. Together with Thunderbird, they set up the Mutant Underground.

“ Finally we did. We’ve turned this bank which was abandoned after the Oakwood riot to our official headquarters. Amazing isn’t it?” Polaris said to Eclipse. Both of them were seated on a bench in the garden at night.

“ Yeah, indeed wonderful” Eclipse replied.

“ If someone ever told me that I’ll be able to quit drug dealing and do this, I’ll definitely term him as a mad man” He chuckled.

“ Never underrate yourself” Polaris replied.

“Do you wanna know something about me?” Eclipse questioned and got a nod from Polaris.

“ Even till now, I’m still scared that I am a mutant” He said.

“ Why?” Polaris couldn’t help but ask.

“ When my parents found out I was a mutant…they disowned and threw me out in the street. I had to learn how to fend for myself from a tender age” Eclipse narrated in a sad tone.

Polaris' face softened and she felt sorry for him.

“ So sorry you had to endure all of that” She consoled but got a scoff from Eclipse.

“ Nah..no need to feel sorry. I’m already used to it” He chuckled.

“ Well your parents might have abandoned you but know that the underground will never do that” Polaris assured.

“ I know” Eclipse nodded to what she said.

“ Hey…. You want me to show you something?” Polaris asked.

“ I’m eager” Eclipse chuckled.

“ I can use my lower to levitate” Polaris said.

“ Really?” Eclipse exclaimed.

“ Watch”

Standing to her feet, Polaris slowly closed her eyes. Using her magnetic force, her feet slowly started rising off the ground until she was now floating in the air, her arms spread out widely.

“ Wow!” Eclipse exclaimed in awe. Polaris stretched forth her hand and he grabbed it. Before he knew it, he too was floating.

“ This is amazing” Eclipse gushed chuckling.

They both widened out their left palm as Eclipse emitted light while Polaris emitted a green flame of magnetism.

As soon as the two lights met, a very bright glow of green light started revolving around them. Their eyes widened as they quickly dispatched their palms, landing safely on the ground.

“ What was that?” Eclipse asked.

“ I think we had an AURORA” Polaris muttered in shock.

“ What?!” Eclipse exclaimed.

“ Yes. An Aurora is a natural phenomenon which is characterized by the display of a natural colored light which can by either green, red, yellow or white in the sky” Polaris explained.

“ And it only happens when the streams of electrified particles, which emitted from my palm is trapped in the magnetic field of the earth, your super power” Eclipse pointed out.

“ Exactly. I need I think ours is Aurora Borealis, which normally happens in the Artic when solar energy hits the magnetosphere” Polaris chimed in.

They both let out a scoff indicating disbelief as they star at each other, wowed.

“ I'm starting to think we share something extraordinary” Eclipse smirked at Polaris.

FLASHBACK ENDS

“ And after that day, me and your dad went ahead to a form a relationship which I am glade we did” Polaris said to her baby.

“ And you know what?”

“ I don’t regret ever meeting your father” She added with a happy scoff.

“ But still I’m scared..

“ I don’t want you to live the kind of life I lived, being into hiding almost my whole life. I just want this racism stuff to come to an end so all mutants will be free and you won’t have to go into hiding too..

“ But the more I think about it…the more I realize how impossible it will be” Polaris sighed sadly.

“ Well to me…it is possible” A voice said, making Polaris look up immediately to see who it was. An angry snort left her lips as she stood up.

“ What are you doing her, Jade?” She hissed.

“Shouldn’t I be the one asking that question?” Jade asked.

“ Anyways, I guess you' came here to clear off your head about everything going on lately and I am sure you have tons of questions running in your head now but….

“ Not you worry...I’m here to answer all of 'em” She added.

“ And do you think I have such time with you?” Polaris scoffed.

“ Call me Polaris, you’re sending me to hell” She retorted, getting a slight chuckle from Jade.

“ You still haven’t changed a bit, have you?” Jade chuckled.

“ But not you worry.. I’m not the enemy here, not at all” She implied.

“ You being a member of the Innercircle makes you an enemy, including all members of that club” Polaris spat in disgust.

“ Including your dad?” Jade questioned and got a hard glare from Polaris.

“ I don’t have a father” Polaris said plainly.

“ Really? That’s a lie and you know that. You’re just like Carter, possessing just the same power as h…..

“ That man is not my father” Polaris bellowed, making Jade flinch a bit.

“ Ok, Ok…if you say so” She said, her hand raised in form of a surrender.

“ Anyways, that’s not the main reason I came here” Jade spoke up after a short silence fell between them.

“ I came to inform you that there’s trouble, a big problem”

“ As I speak to you now, Lucan is forming an alliance with the Purifier’s and they’ve come up with a ‘Hounds Program' which is expanding greatly and in no time will turn everyone against us and there will be war” Jade explained with the scariest tone she could ever think of but was disappointed when she got a hiss from Polaris.

“ You seriously think I’ll believe what you just said?” Polaris scoffed.

“ Lucan is dead. He was buried alive along with all other Sentinels when their headquarters was destroyed” She announced.

“ And that was exactly what I thought…but it proved false” Jade corrected her immediately

“ Lucan isn’t dead. He escaped just before the building collapsed and as I speak to you now, he is gathering almost all politicians and influential people against us…And that is what we, the Innercircle want to stop”

“ Fine. If the Innercircle really wants to stop this whole Hounds Program of a thing, why are you telling me about it?” Polaris queried with folded arms.

“ We need your help Polaris, that’s why I came here. You’re among the strongest mutant present and we need you to help us stop this program and free all mutants held by the Sentinels, who treats them like slaves and torture them. That is the main goal of the Innercircle” Jade answered.

“ Listen, we ain’t the enemy here. We have just the same goal as the underground but maybe our way of approaching things are different. We do things the hard way whereas the underground do things the right way as they presume…

“ But come to think of it Polaris, what has the Underground achieved while trying to do things the right way all these years?” Jade threw the jaw stroking question to Polaris.

“ Nothing right?” She implied when she didn’t get an answer from Polaris.

“ The Sentinels aren’t people we should feel pity or mercy for cause they don’t show us mercy. Those being are inhumane and heartless and to get them we too have to treat them as they treat us…

“ Take a look at Nova. Lucan killed her without even thinking twice and you seriously think we should have mercy on them?” Jade threw the question once again to Polaris whose face has gloomed in anger.

A satisfactory smirk formed on Jade’s lips knowing she was gradually convincing Polaris so she decided to spice her point up the more.

“Fine. If not all these mutants…think about your unborn child” She put forth and Polaris glared at her.

“ Do you want your baby to be given birth in a world with this kind of racism against mutants? Do you want her to spend her whole life in hiding just like you? Don’t you want her to enjoy the same freedom as other children around her? Do you want her to be laughed at just because she is a mutant? Think about it Polaris, think about it” Jade hinted and Polaris' face died down in sadness.

Jade is right. No mother will like her child to be given birth in a world like this, no mother will like endangering the life of her unborn child.

Using her telephatic skills, Jade was able to dive into Polaris mind, planting a horrific scene in her mind.

Polaris could see herself giving birth to a girl and immediately, Lucan snatched the baby from her, grinning from ear to ear.

“ Say bye bye to your baby girl” Lucan’s evil laughter echoed in her mind.

“No” Polaris yelled out in fear, flinging her eyes open in horror. Her palms were already sweating and her hands trembling due to fear.

Unknown to her, Jade whose eyeballs were already glowing sea blue was the one controlling her mind.

“ No. I can’t let this happen” Polaris trembled.

“ What should I do, Jade, tell me” She inquired from Jade whose eyeballs has gone back to normal.

“ It’s as simple as this Polaris….JOIN THE INNERCIRCLE and together, we all can bring freedom to all mutants. That’s all your father ever wanted” Jade revealed.

Polaris looked away on hearing what she said. Deep down she wasn’t that much convinced. One part of her is pleading for her grab the offer without even pondering on it while another part of her is ringing a warning message to her not to even think of accepting the offer.

Knowing what was going on in her mind, Jade spoke up.

“ I know you might be pondering over it. Don’t worry I’ll give you enough time to think about it” She said.

“ Here’s my card, you can call whenever you’ve made up your mind” She added and Polaris reluctantly took the card from her.

“ I’ll be on my way now. But bear one thing in mind Polaris…

“ The fate of your unborn child and many other mutants lies in your hands…PLEASE DON’T FAIL THEM……… ..
