Chapter 88: Chapter 88
Third POV.
“Something is wrong.”
Elana had a frown and anxiety on her face when she said those words calmly.
Although there was nothing wrong with what she said, it was enough for everyone in the room to look at her.
“What do you mean?” Marcus was filled with questions as he wondered what would be wrong when they had been getting well with the others.
Shaking her head, Elana looked at her mate and said, “I really don’t know but there is something wrong.”
The more she insisted on it, the more Aiden, Marcus and everyone who had accompanied them became solemn.
Elana took a deep breath as she tried to sense what was wrong in that wrong. Everytime she tried to hear what was going on, her concentration was hit on a wall making her frown. Inside, she was a little anxious as something came on her mind but she didn’t want to believe it.
She called unto her wolf to confirm but she was met by a total silence and a certain weird cold inside her.
At this moment, she knew that they had fallen into a trap but at the same time she wondered why they had been ambushed since the rogues had always gone after Leila and she wasn’t present.
The anxiety didn’t not only fade but also, she felt that her body temperature was dropping. She knew from that that her wolf was trying to be free since she wanted to say something.
With a frown she called unto Elaine who seemed sleeping making Elana to be displeased with her.
“You always claim that you are stronger than us all but you are the one who is sleepy when we are in danger.” Elana sneered in contempt, making Elaine open her eyes.
“Who said that I don’t know you are all in danger? I knew that if I told you earlier, you would have exposed yourself,” Elaine said as she closed her eyes.
“What do you mean?”
“Don’t you think that they will find it weird that you can tell that there is something wrong while no one else can?”
Elaine’s question made Elana stop what she was doing and think whether Elaine was right.
Knowing what was going through Elana’s mind, Elaine shook her head in disappointment.
“Don’t think that they are your allies just because they agreed to meet up with you guys. If they were, can you tell me why you have been ambushed?”
“We haven’t been ambushed!”
Elana denied it hurriedly and loudly, making Elaine be serious as she opened her eyes.
“Yes, you have not yet been ambushed but there are rogues outside waiting for any of you to go out. They are definitely at the enemy’s side and not ours.”
Elana also became serious upon hearing that cause she knew that Elaine did not have a reason to lie to her and also, from Elaine’s tone, she could tell there was something else she wasn’t saying.
Despite that fact, Elana did not get mad at her as there was nothing that could ever be hidden from her.
“How do you know that they are on the enemy’s side and not ours? Why can’t you think that the rogues had just seen us leaving and followed us?” She opted to ask that question instead of asking what Elaine was hiding directly.
“You fool. Even though the rogues saw the cars leaving, how could they know for sure that it was the king, you, Marcus and the kingdom’s high-ups? But let us say that whatever you are saying is indeed true, that would only mean that rogues saw you all away getting out of the car upon arrival, right?”
Elaine used a very serious tone making Elana shiver as she knew that there was something wrong.
“Yes.”
“If that’s the case then why has the kingdom been attacked an hour ago and you got into the building thirty minutes ago?”
“What?” Elana exclaimed loudly, making everyone look at her.
Seeing everyone’s gaze on her, Elana smiled at them sheepishly but her smile couldn’t fool both Marcus and Aiden. They knew that there was something wrong.
With this thought, Aiden tried mindlinking the driver they had left downstairs but he couldn’t, making him frown and shift his gaze to Elana with questioning eyes.
“Your majesty, is there something wrong?” The other party asked with a worried smile on his face making anyone not o see his true face.
Marcus frowned upon hearing that and from the tone, he concluded there was a hidden meaning behind those words but couldn’t pinpoint it. Even if he wanted to forget and concentrate on everything that was being discussed, his mind was still on the man’s face and voice.
He kept replaying it in his mind as he tried to find what was wrong.
“What do you mean that the kingdom is under attack? Elana asked Elaine inwardly and in an anxious tone.
“I just talked to Amaya. She was asking whether we are fine. She then told me what was happening and concluded that she was sure that we will also be attacked so as to prevent us from going back to the kingdom in time and rescue them.” Elaine said calmly but what she had said was enough for Elana temper to rise.
Her face turned coldly making the warm atmosphere to be chilly immediately.
“Is Leila fine?”
“She is fine. She said that it seems that the rogues aren’t after her but the elders and council.”
Elana explained what she meant by that but sadly, it did not help her in feeling any better.
“What’s wrong?” Aiden asked after sensing the cold emotion emitting from Elana.
Marcus diverted his gaze from the man who had spoken and looked at Aiden and Elana the back at the other people present.
His gaze was cold and stern, making some of them lower their heads in fear and at the moment, they were in disbelief since they couldn’t understand how the young man had such a powerful aura around.
“They are working with the rogues.”
Elana’s voice was not so loud but was so cold. Some shrinked on their chairs as Elana’s aura was so strong to make them feel oppressed.
Suddenly, a man who had been silent since the meeting started laughing coldly and at the same time sarcastically.
