Third POV.

They all held their breaths and didn’t look at Aiden as they knew that that would be like agreeing with the old man but it wasn’t everyone.

Both Elana, Marcus and Aurora turned and looked at him waiting to see what he would do.

Aiden did not dare say anything. He just lowered his head.

“Why are you lowering your head and not saying anything, mh? So it is indeed your fault. I am so disappointed in you. I sensed that you guys have mated but instead of you guys getting closer to each other, you have distanced yourselves. I know it isn’t Leila’s fault because she is a very good person. She is not only kind, caring but also loving and understanding. I guess she got tired of how you treated her. She has been patient and hopes you will eventually change but I don’t think there is any hope for you,” the old king said as he shook his head.

“Dad,” Aiden said as he lifted his head and looked at his pale father.

“Don’t dad me. Do I have a son that hurts his mate? That you opt not to listen and be understanding to her? I thought I taught my kids well and that they would never heart their mates but I was so wrong,” the old man said as he looked up.

He wanted to say more but there was nothing he could say. His eyes darkened as they became cold when he remembered how Leila’s eyes always looked when she came to see him. Although she had tried her best to conceal the hurt and disappointment, he saw them. At first, he was confused as he wondered why she was like them but after seeing Aiden and hearing his words, he knew that his son was the reason the young girl was suffering. He had wanted to tell him that he was fine so that he could treat her better but everything was in vain. He eventually vowed that he would cooperate with Leila so that he could recover quickly and talk to his son.

“Dad, you already lost Leila as your daughter-in-law,” Aurora said, making Aiden glare at her but she pretended not to notice this.

“What do you mean when you say that? I know that they have both marked and mated with each other thus it is impossible for what you are saying to happen,” their father said firmly as he looked at Aurora but deep down, he was trembling as he wondered whether what Aurora was saying is true cause he knew that she didn’t have any reason to lie to him.

Aiden sighed in relief but hearing his words and knew he had escaped a calamity. In order to prevent his sister from saying anything else he glared at her coldly before looking at his father with a bright smile on his face.

“Yes dad. We already marked and mated thus she is still and will always be your daughter-in-law,” Aiden said, making his father stop overthinking and nod at him.

The others rolled their eyes as they wondered for how long would Aiden keep lying to his father. They didn’t try saying anything as they found it unnecessary and also Aiden was their best friend and to the council, a child they had seen growing up but to Leila’s family it was quite the opposite as both Elana’s and Marcus’ eyes turned cold upon hearing his words.

“Aiden, for how long do you think you can keep lying to your father?” Marcus asked coldly, making everyone hold their breaths as they were afraid that they would be heard when they breath since the room was covered with silence after Marcus spoke.

The old king’s eyes were filled with confusion before he became gloomy as he could guess that his son had lied to him but he didn’t talk as he wanted to see whether Aiden would admit the truth.

“What do you mean Marcus? Which truth are you talking about?” Aiden asked back as he pretended that he didn’t understand anything and hid his panic.

Elana rolled her eyes upon that and said, “We all know the truth thus stop pretending. Your father also knows as he isn’t stupid as he thinks. Also, although you have mated and marked Leila don’t think your bond can’t be broken. Your majesty, Leila will no longer be his mate and tend to your injury. She is just a mate by name and after everything is done here, I will take my sister and leave. Also, you should call the doctor so that he can make sure you recover.”

After saying that, Elana turned around preparing to leave.

Seeing this, the old king panicked and glared at Aiden.

“You bastard! Now see what you have caused! Are you happy after everything you have done? Listen to me and listen carefully, you better go out there, look for Leila, apologise to her. If you have to kneel then you should do it. If it is kissing her toes, kiss them as long as I get my daughter-in-law back! If you fail to do that then know that I will strip you off your king position and give it to someone else,” he said angrily, making people panic as they were afraid that his condition would worsen.

“Dad, please calm down. Aiden, are you happy to see this? Leave now before dad gets worse because of you,” Aurora said coldly with a murderous intent when she looked at his brother without caring whether she would sound disrespectful to him.

Although Aiden was mad at how she spoke to him, he nodded his head as he clenched his hand into a fist before leaving the room.

He walked downstairs as he knew that that was where he could find Leila. Now, he wasn’t trying to get her cause of the throne but for his father to forgive him. He wished that he had listened to Aurora and Jordan but now there was no need for regret as whatever happened has already happened.

“Leila,” he called out when he saw her talking to her sister.

They both stopped talking and turned their heads to his direction.

“I am sorry. I misunderstood you. I know that I have hurt you so much in this short period cause I believed that it was your fault dad was kidnapped and that if you wanted to save him from the rogues you could have. Now, it seems that you did save him. I am so sorry. I hope you find it in your heart to forgive me,” he said with his head lowered.

Leila laughed at his words.

“Forgive you? No way! I am the one in control and I won’t let you back into our lives but maybe that will change in a few hours,” Amaya said in a deep voice.

“Amaya, what do you mean?” Elana asked as she had a bad feeling.

“What I mean is this…” Amaya said before disappearing in thin air but Elana, her mate and Aiden were sure that she wasn’t in the palace anymore and was out of the kingdom.
