Chapter 14: Chapter 14

I walked through the forest enjoying the cool breeze. I didn't have to search for long before catching sight of a deer. After feeding on it, I decided to go back. I walked into the room, to see Elmira already sleeping. She sat on the floor, her head placed on the couch and her mouth slightly opened. A book was on the floor. It was opened, and with some papers on it. Some were scattered abroad. She must have slept off while reading it.

I bend down to pick the papers and placed them in between the book. I closed the book. On it was written. 'the beauty and the beast'. It was a comic book with a picture of a beast and a young girl. I was curious to know what the book was all about, cause judging from the title, I know it will Involve some torture stuff. I opened a few pages and closed it. I'll read it when I'm less busy. I dropped it on the table and walked into the bathroom to take my bath.

It's some minutes to midnight and some minutes to the spring ball also. I sat on the bed, staring at the roof. Elmira was still sleeping. She moved a bit and whined, trying to get into a comfortable position. I noticed she wasn't comfortable sleeping that way. "Elmira?" I called, but there was no answer. I stood up to raise her but stopped when she raised her head from the couch, eyes closed. She placed her head back on the couch, sleeping peacefully.

I walked closer to her and lift her from the ground. I placed her on the couch and walked back to my closet to get a blanket to cover her. After covering her, I went to sit down on the bed. My eyes caught sight of the comic book. I picked it up, to go through it but dropped it when I heard a knock on the door. "Who's that?"

"Eunice, it's time for the ball" she answered. I dropped the book and stood up to open the door. "Can I come in?"

I nodded and moved away from the door. She walked fully into the room, dressed in a blue ball gown. "Where is Elmira?" She asked. She was holding a pink cloth, which I guess to be a dress. She furrowed her brows. "She's still asleep?"

I rolled my eyes. "As you can see, she is"

She chuckled. "Oh, mine. I brought this for her" she stretched the pink clothes to me. "I thought she might need this"

I crinkled my brows "For what?"

"For the ball"

I hissed. "She isn't attending any ball"

"Why won't she?"

I rolled my eyes. "Cause she's sleeping"

She chuckled. "Are you sure that's your reason?"

I rolled my eyes. "Yes"

She walked up to her and touched her. "El, Elmira love"

I groaned. What's she trying to do? Wake her up?. Elmira opened her eyes. "Sit up darling" Eunice cooed. I groaned. "What the heck is she trying to do. Elmira stretched and sat up. "Your lord wants you to take this and go get dressed for the ball"

"I never said that!!" I yelled

Elmira stared at me. "Don't you want to be there honey?" Eunice asked

"She's human. She can't be there" I said quickly. There is no way I'm letting her go there.

"That doesn't stop her from going. After all, you will be there to guard her". I hissed. What's wrong with Eunice?. She loves to go against my order always. "Or won't you?" She asked

I rolled my eyes. I can't say no to that. I already promised mom and Amaya to take care of her. And that's the reason, I can't let her go. "She isn't going, that's final!!"

"Come, Damien"

I hissed. "Eunice, can I see you"

She stood up. "Sure"

We moved a bit away from Elmira. "Eunice, she can't go"

"Why?"

"She's human"

"That isn't a reason. Come on, just let her go. It's going to be fun"

"If she goes, I won't be responsible for her, ok?"

Eunice chuckled. "Then who will?"

"You will"

"I'll ok. Just say yes"

I sighed. I can't. Why can't she understand?. I turned to look at Elmira, who stared at me with puppy eyes. I groaned. "Ok, she can go"

Eunice chuckled. "Are you for real?". I nodded. She turned in Elmira's direction. "Elmira, he said you can go". Elmira chuckled and I was surprised. This is the first time I see her do that. I widen my eyes. "Go, go. Go get ready," Eunice said

Elmira jumped up, her once-sleepy eyes, now so bright with happiness evidence on her face.

I hissed. I don't know why she decides to be happy over a ball. Just a spring ball, which will be full of vampires. Does she even think about her life?. I groaned. She doesn't understand I'm trying to save her from been hurt by them. She stood rooted to her spot, confused I guess on what to do. "You know what, come with me," Eunice said.

After they left, I walked back to my bed and lay down, waiting patiently for the time of the ball.

I walked into the hall with the six guards, trailing behind me. Everyone stood up to my surprise excluding my uncle and his wife and a few other vampires whom I found out to be the council of elders and some coven heads from far away. Some girls were ogling. I groaned and walked past them. My uncle gestured to me to come to sit beside him and his wife, but not after introducing me to a long list of people.

I sighed when I finally sat down. "He's cute," a girl thought. I hissed. Like I care about her opinion.

"I wish he will be my mate" another thought and I groaned. She is not even as beautiful as Elmira. Talking of her, I haven't seen her since I came. I looked up to see if Eunice was here with Elmira but there was no sign of them. Only the council of elders who were seated at the right-hand side and Four vampires from another coven seated at the left side. The hall was filled with vampires and I was worried I might not be able to hold Elmira from them. That's the reason I never wanted her to come here in the first place.

The ball started and Eunice wasn't here yet. People kept trooping in and out of the hall but no sign of Eunice or Elmira. I rolled my eyes. "Maybe she changed her mind," I thought and relaxed on the chair, staring into space.

It's some hours now, and Eunice is yet to show up. The ball has started for over an hour now and I am already feeling so bored. The supposed sorcerer walked up the stage and began to cast a spell I guess. Everywhere was quiet as they listen to whatever she has to say.  I bend my head, tapping my foot on the floor. "You" she called. I raised my head to see who she was calling. She pointed at me. "You"

"Me?"

She nodded. "You're like a beast in sheep clothing. You find pleasure in torture. You kill without mercy. But with all this attribute, you've been given the meekest as a mate". I hissed. What's she saying?. I never asked for a mate. It isn't like I needed one. I rolled my eyes and she smiled. "Your mate is here. Right here," she said and shouts erupted mostly from the ladies. I hissed. "She's close to you. And is right beside you now. Turn to your left"

I turned to the left but did not see anybody. I raised my head a bit higher only to see Elmira some meters away. My eyes widen. Don't tell me she's my mate, please. As if reading my thought, she answered. "Yes, she is"

I hissed loudly. That can't be!!. Did mom knew about this?. Is that the reason she made me come here with her?. Maybe there is a misunderstanding. No, I don't think it is. She wasn't there some minutes ago. How and when did she get there!!?
