Chapter 93: Chapter 93

WONHEE has been in showbiz since she was five years old.

She started as a child model before she got her first acting role at age six. Then she became the most in-demand child actress of the time.

[I was called the ’Nation’s Little Sister’ back then.]

And when she was fifteen years old, the year before the Outbreak, she got her first leading role in a romantic film. It was Korea’s last blockbuster hit (before the Outbreak), and she was then labeled as the ’Nation’s First Love.’

Then the world stopped for a few years because of the Outbreak.

However, when Wonhee made a comeback as an actress, she made it big again. This time, she was called the ’Nation’s Face Card.’

Well, most of her titles had to do with her visuals.

But that didn’t mean she was only known for her beauty.

[The public wouldn’t have adored me if I was only a pretty face.]

Wonhee lived up to her name as the daughter of Chu Sara, the legendary veteran actress, and became one of Korea’s prime (and highest-paid) actors.

Some tried to discredit her because she was a nepo baby.

But Wonhee worked hard to prove that it was her talent that firmly established her career as an excellent actress.

And her hard work paid off.

[I became the youngest recipient of an acting Daesang award at the age of 22.]

Wonhee had twenty years of acting experience and several prestigious acting awards under her belt.

On the other hand, Park Ruda was a newbie actor. Check latest chapters at noᴠelfire.net

[I’ve seen Oppa act in a viral music video recently, and let’s just say I was that awkward and unnatural as well during my rookie days.]

"I don’t want to accidentally ruin your debut as a newbie actor, Ruda Oppa."

Wonhee knew that if someone else other than PD Ha and Ahyeon had heard what she said to Park Ruda, she would be labeled as ’rude.’

Ruda was older than her, and he was her senior as a Guide.

[I’m Ruda Oppa’s big senior in the entertainment industry.]

That was why Wonhee couldn’t and SHOULD NOT run away.

[Even if it means acting like a pushover again.]

"But if I said that, I’d come across as arrogant, right?" Wonhee said, smiling at Ruda who still had a cold look on his face. "Even veteran S-Class Hunters shouldn’t lower their guards whether their opponent is a monster or an F-Class Hunter. After all, the moment you look down on your enemy is the moment you lose."

At the corner of her eye, she saw PD Ha heaved a sigh of relief.

It was as if the producer was relieved by the fact that Wonhee wasn’t a bad person.

"Of course, I know that you would never look down on anyone, Wonhee-ya," Ruda said, and then he put a hand over his chest. "But I was quite surprised when I heard what you said earlier."

""Acting opposite you would be like a veteran S-Class Hunter sparring with a rookie F-Class Hunter,"" Wonhee said, repeating the vicious and arrogant words that she said earlier. But, this time, her tone was light and friendly. "It’s a line in the script that I received, Oppa. I’m talking about the role that Writer Shin offered to me."

Writer Shin’s new drama would be Ruda’s debut drama as an actor.

Wonhee still remembered how Miss Miyeon lamented after reading the script of the drama in question: ["It’s like a glorified fanfic of Park Ruda and Lee Seodam’s "love story!" And that damned writer wants you to take the role of the villainess, Wony-ah!"]

She got curious, so she scanned the script.

Since she was a veteran actress, memorizing a line or two was easy for her.

"So, you’ve already read the script," Ruda said. "Did you turn down the offer because you didn’t like the script, Wony-ah?"

[Oppa isn’t being discreet about picking a fight with me anymore, huh?]

"I didn’t get the chance to consider any role given to me recently because I didn’t have the time to do so, Oppa," Wonhee said, maintaining her kind voice and gentle smile. "But now that my schedule has eased up a bit, I can start reading the scripts sent to me."

"What do you mean by that, Oppa?"

"The producers got impatient," Ruda said, smiling apologetically at her. "The audition to get the role offered to you is now ongoing."

[That’s normal. When the first choice turns down the role offered to them, the producers and the screenwriter would either offer it to other actors or hold an audition.]

"I see," Wonhee said, nodding. "Sounds fun."

Ruda raised an eyebrow. "Do veteran actresses like you still go on auditions?"

Well, there was an old and veteran actress who got into a controversy a few years ago for throwing the script at a writer who politely informed her that she needed to audition to get the role. The veteran actress felt offended.

On the other hand, there was a famous actor who got praised for auditioning for a role that he supposedly really wanted to get.

[So, it really depends.]

But Wonhee knew what Ruda really wanted to know.

"If Oppa makes the role enticing enough for me to want to grab it, then why not?"

"The key to a drama’s success doesn’t only rely on a good plot and good acting," Wonhee said, smiling. "Sometimes, it depends on the chemistry between the actors and the characters they play."

[Translation: Get on my level first.]

Ruda suddenly burst out laughing. "Wonhee-ya, you’ve gotten cuter!"

"HAH. I wonder why I’m suddenly pissed."

Yool got nervous after hearing what Hwang Frost said.

It had also gotten a bit cold, so he hugged himself while rubbing his arms.

The top floor of the Nom Nom Restaurant was warm, but Hwang Frost was making it cold because of his mood swings.

[And, yes, Song Moonho reserved the top floor of the Nom Nom Restaurant again.]

But the person who told Yool and Hwang Frost to meet there was late.

[I guess I should use this chance to warn the lesser evil of the two.]

"Hwang Frost-ssi, don’t even think about picking a fight with Song Moonho-ssi," Yool complained. He was still nervous around the crazy Hunter, but he couldn’t stop running his mouth. He’d rather die speaking his mind than die bottling up his feelings and opinions. " Do you know what happens to a shrimp when it gets caught between two fighting whales, huh? 1 I’ll die."

Hwang Frost, who was sitting across from Yool, shrugged. "You’re not a shrimp– you’ll be fine."

Yool could only pray that Hwang Frost and Song Moonho wouldn’t clash later or else he would really die.

"WONHEE-ya, should we clear the air?"

Wonhee felt bad for PD Ha who had to witness her passive-aggressive conversation with Park Ruda earlier, so she cut her greetings short and left.

Fortunately, it was time for the crew to start filming anyway.

But, much to Wonhee’s surprise (and distress), Park Ruda ran after her.

"Oppa," Wonhee said, looking around them. They were now in front of the elevator. But, luckily, no one else was there. "I thought you were going to start filming?"

"The staff members aren’t done eating yet, so I still have time."

"I see," she said, and then she turned to Ahyeon. "Ahyeonnie, can you create a sound-proof barrier?"

Ahyeon nodded politely. "I’ll create it now, Noona."

Wonhee waited until the umbrella-like barrier was finished.

Only then did she speak again.

"Oppa, what do you mean by "clearing the air?""

Ruda paused for a moment as if he was thinking, and then he finally said it. "I didn’t steal Lee Seodam from you."

"You and Seodam were already over when we slept together."

Wonhee clenched her purse tight, but she kept her mouth shut because Ruda wasn’t done talking yet.

"And even if we did sleep together a mere days after your break-up, we did it for work."

"Oppa, why are you telling me these?"

"Because I don’t want you to think that I stole Seodam from you."

"But that thought never crossed my mind, Oppa."

Ruda looked surprised by what she said. "You’re not blaming me for your breakup?"

Wonhee smiled sadly at Ruda. "Oppa, I didn’t lose Seodam Oppa to you– I lost him to his ambitions. Even if it wasn’t you, Seodam Oppa would have still chosen a Guide who could help him advance over me."

Ruda slowly lost all the emotions on his face.

But she wasn’t done yet.

"I’ll admit that I got hurt after I heard the news of you sleeping together while I was suffering due to APA’s mistreatment. But, now that I’ve started doing a Guide’s job properly, I realized the importance of physical intimacy between a Hunter and a Guide," Wonhee said calmly. "So, I got over it."

"You already got over it?"

"I got over it, but there’s one thing that I will never forget– and it’s the fact that Seodam Oppa didn’t believe me when I was accused of drug abuse," Wonhee said softly yet firmly. "I can forgive him for that because I know how he takes his job so seriously. But that doesn’t mean I’ll forget that Seodam Oppa doesn’t have my back. And I can’t stay with that kind of person."

Yejun once asked Wonhee what she would do if Seodam suddenly wanted her back.

She didn’t give Yejun a proper answer back then because she hadn’t gathered her thoughts yet. And she was the type of person to ponder things over and over again before making a big decision.

But she was done thinking now.

"It doesn’t look like that way to me," Ruda said skeptically. "You treat Seodam like you still have feelings for him."

"Then should I curse at Seodam Oppa every time I see him?"

"I know that people see me as a pushover for being kind to people who don’t deserve it. But I don’t resent Seodam Oppa. He did hurt me, yes. But I chose not to hold a grudge against him since we already ended things between us. I’m also frustrated with myself sometimes, but this is who I am," Wonhee explained gently. "Plus, Seodam Oppa didn’t cheat on me. He was open and honest with me about you, Ruda Oppa. It was me who clung to him desperately even after he said he would sleep with you for his advancement."

Because, as she said earlier, she was the type to ponder things over and over.

Hence, breaking up on the spot was almost impossible for her.

And she knew how she developed that kind of personality.

"When I was a child, it was hard for me to let go of the dolls that my parents wanted me to to the less fortunate kids. Every time I acted up like a spoiled brat, my parents would remind me that I shouldn’t be greedy– that I should be generous because it’s the only way I could show my gratitude for being born lucky," Wonhee said, reminiscing about her childhood. "Once I understood that it was better for the dolls to be d so other children could play with them than keep them hidden in my playroom, I let them go completely."

"Why does it sound like the doll is Seodam and I’m the less fortunate child who received your "donation" in that story, Wonhee-ya?"

"If the shoe fits, Oppa."

That seemed to render Ruda speechless.

"I don’t know what Oppa is worried about, but let me say this: I never took back what I’ve already d," Wonhee said, smiling at Ruda. A smile that showed she kind of pitied him for worrying about something useless. "I hope that cleared the air, Oppa."
