Chapter 173: Chapter 173
WONHEE was so stressed out.
The day Yejun fainted, Song Moonho moved Yejun to Wonhee’s bedroom in the annex building of Semi’s mansion (her current residence).
Right after that, the System informed Wonhee that Yejun was safe.
[HUNTER HWANG YEJUN WAS SUMMONED BY THE SYSTEM!]
It had been two days since then and Yejun hadn’t woken up yet.
Worse, during the past two days, Soobin and Semi wouldn’t stop convincing Wonhee to consider sacrificing Yool to get the information they needed.
[It makes me regret that we shared Yool’s secret with them.]
That was why Wonhee finally snapped.
"We just want to know how we can protect you better."
"Why, Oppa? Is it because you and Semi Unnie will receive more rewards from the System if you take care of me well?"
Soobin and Semi looked shocked by her bitter resentments.
"That’s right, Oppa, Unnie. I know it all," Wonhee said bitterly. "I know that you love me, but I also know that you gain rewards from the System the more you love me. So, even if I don’t want to, I can’t help but wonder." She smiled sadly at her older siblings. "How much of your love for me is genuine?"
This time, the shock on her older siblings’ faces was replaced by pain.
"Hee-ya, we won’t deny that the System rewards us with benefits every time we shower you with love and affection," Soobin said in a gentle yet sad voice. "But do you really think we only care about you because of that?"
"Moreover, the System only started doing that after you awakened," Semi added. "But we won’t deny that we’re aware that the System favors us more than other Hunters. We only realized later that it was because of you."
Of course, in her heart, Wonhee knew that her older siblings were telling the truth.
However, she wasn’t in the right condition to think thoroughly.
She was that worried about Yejun and Yool.
"Oppa, Unnie, I understand that you only want to protect me," Wonhee said, sighing. "I also know that we can save the world if we know who we need to take down. But can’t I be selfish for once? I don’t want to lose Yool, but that doesn’t mean I want to see the world perish either. All I’m asking is to give me a chance to find another solution while the Virus is still lying low."
Soobin and Semi looked like they had so many things to say.
But, in the end, her older siblings decided to keep their mouths shut.
[It seems like I’ve hurt them.]
Even so, she stood her ground.
"I’ll take responsibility, so please," Wonhee said firmly, clenching her hands tight. "Oppa, Unnie, don’t meddle with my affairs this time— I’m no longer the naïve child you need to protect."
"I MADE Eggs Benedict for breakfast, Yool-ssi. I hope that’s alright with you."
"Fancy," Yool said bluntly, sitting on the high stool and placing his arms on the posh kitchen island. "What can you not do, Ahjussi?"
Song Moonho wore a casual knitted sweater while setting the table.
[And he looks so damn attractive while doing so.]
"There are a lot of things that I can’t do," Song Moonho said, and then he sat next to Yool after serving their breakfast on the kitchen island. As if that wasn’t close enough, the old man even had to turn to him with a sly smile on his face. "For example, I haven’t found all the little toy ducks you hid in my house."
Yool almost choked on his Eggs Benedict. "Oh. You found out?"
"How many did you hide?" Song Moonho asked, laughing softly. "I’ve only found thirty-three so far since I haven’t been home these days."
"Your housekeepers haven’t found the toys yet?"
"I’ve told them to put the duck toys back to where they found them without telling me the locations. I wanna find all the little ducks you hid on my own."
"Wow. Someone is dedicated."
"So, please give me a hint," Song Moonho urged, giving Yool a charming smile. "Tell me how many more little ducks I need to find."
"I hid one hundred little ducks. Go and do the calculations since I’m bad at Math."
"Hey, that’s stereotypical."
Song Moonho just laughed. "Are you going to visit Chu Wonhee today?"
Yool let out a sigh. "I actually wanted to ask Wony if she could feature in our music video. But there’s too much on her plate already. I can tell that she’s really worried about Hwang Frost, even though the System already assured her that he’s fine."
"I don’t think Chu Wonhee would reject your request, though."
"That’s exactly why I’m hesitating. Wony is already stressed out."
"You should worry more about yourself, Yool-ssi."
"Didn’t you see how Yeon Soobin and Jang Semi looked at you after you revealed your secret? They were ready to sacrifice you. Fortunately, Chu Wonhee stood up for you."
"That’s why I’m not worried. Even Graham wouldn’t let Yeon Soobin and Jang Semi harm me."
Song Moonho let out a sigh. "You’re hurting my feelings again, baby."
Yool looked at the old man with a disgusted look on his face. "Stop being cringe-y, Ahjussi."
"Why did you specifically mention Graham when I’m here?"
"I’m also here to protect you from Yeon Soobin and Jang Semi."
"Why do you think I agreed to come home with you?"
Song Moonho looked stupefied.
Yool just sipped his tea while watching the old man get speechless.
To be honest, Wonhee wanted Yool to stay in the annex with her.
[But I can tell that Yeon Soobin and Jang Semi are willing to throw me under the bus, so I decided to accept Song Moonho’s offer to stay with him again.]
Graham also offered the same thing, but...
[It’s gonna be awkward to stay under the same roof as Graham and Ahn Kisoo— and I’d feel like a homewrecker for some reason.]
"Yool-ssi, how old are you?"
"You’re still older than me, Ahjussi."
"You’re not going to give up, are you?" Yool asked, sighing. "I’m thirty-three."
Song Moonho suddenly let out a hearty laugh...
... and it sounded like a laugh of relief.
"Why are you laughing like that, Ahjussi?"
"I held back because as a forty-year-old man, I firmly believe I have no business with people under thirty," Song Moonho said, openly looking at Yool with a heated gaze now. "Although your physical age is twenty-five, your soul and mental age are in their thirties. I won’t feel like a predator now."
Yool gave Song Moonho a dire stare. "Ahjussi, were we lovers in the memories that you saw?"
"All I know is I adore you— then and now."
"Then can you do me a favor?"
"If the ’favor’ doesn’t harm you, then let’s hear it."
[What a quick-witted bastard.]
"If Wony doesn’t want to sacrifice me because I’m her best friend, then can you ask the System to give you the same rights that Wony have?" Yool asked in a serious tone. "Ahjussi, I want you to send me back to my original world if Wony can’t."
"For the greater good, duh."
Song Moonho fell silent for a moment. "Yool-ssi, do you know what Hwang Yejun and I have in common?"
"You’re both ridiculously handsome?"
"You both have gorgeous bodies? Broad shoulders? Wide expanse of chest? Six-pack abs? Taut waist?"
"Thank you for saying that, but I’m not talking about our good looks. And, FYI, I am more ripped than Hwang Yejun."
Yool raised an eyebrow. "Then are you talking about you and Hwang Frost having the same cold and ruthless personality?"
"I’m talking about Hwang Yejun and I having the same attitude when it comes to our future lover," Song Moonho said, smiling as if he was trying to make it light. However, the look in his eyes said that he was dead serious. "Yool-ssi, I’m possessive. And just like how Hwang Yejun will choose Chu Wonhee over the safety of the world, I will also choose you over the benefits of sending you back to your original body."
"A member of the Big 4 shouldn’t be saying that. If you send me back to my original body, then the problem with the Virus will be solved easily."
"I don’t want the easy way out if it means losing you, Yool-ssi."
"That’s ridiculous— we’re not even that close yet."
Song Moonho laughed softly, grabbed one leg of the high stool, and then pulled the chair Yool occupied closer to him. "Is this close enough for you, Yool-ah?" Read complete version only at novel fire.net
[He’s calling me intimately again.]
Yool avoided Song Moonho’s gaze to hide his blush from the old man. "You’re too close, Ahjussi."
"Then you should brace yourself, Yool-ah," Song Moonho "warned," calling Yool warmly again. "I’m hell-bent on getting closer to you from now on."
It was the List— the Top List of Heroes that saved the previous world according to the remaining data that the System managed to restore.
Yejun wasn’t happy to see that he was at the bottom of the list.
[I can’t believe I was stuck in a stupid block of ice for years.]
But deep inside, he was happy to know that the Big 4 didn’t abandon their duties.
"Song Moonho was really the main character of the previous world, huh?" Yejun whispered to himself bitterly. "So, is this what the System wants to tell me?"
"No," the talking orange said. "The System wants to inform you about what Hunter Yeon Soobin and Hunter Jang Semi know about Guide Chu Wonhee and the Lucky Star."
[Then, it only means one thing.]
Yejun raised an eyebrow. "Soobin Hyung and Semi Unnie know the secret behind Wonhee’s birth?"
"They know more than that," the talking orange said, and then he snapped his fingers. "It’s better to ask them in person."
And, just like that, Yeon Soobin and Jang Semi appeared.
Yejun waved at the two who looked confused as hell. "Hello, Brother-in-law and Sister-in-law."
