Chapter 143: Chapter 143

"HWANG YEJUN, I know you’re already awake– so, come out."

"Gimme a minute, Noona," Yejun said in response to what Semi said on the other side of the door. He didn’t need to raise his voice because high-ranking Awakened People were blessed with heightened senses. "I’ll just talk to Wonhee’s Admin."

"Okay~" he said, and then he glanced at Wonhee who was sleeping comfortably on the bed. "Ah, you’re already here."

The talking orange, who was back in his original tangerine form, was sitting on the same pillow that Wonhee was using.

"Go," the talking orange said. "Hunter Yeon Soobin and Guide Shin Geon are here to protect Guide Chu Wonhee. Of course, I’ll also stay here in case of an emergency! I won’t let the Virus near Guide Chu Wonhee!"

Yejun tilted his head to one side while looking at the talking orange. "Why are you already back in that form? Your human form was pretty funny."

"Shut up, Hunter Hwang Yejun! Don’t make fun of me!"

"Are you that young when you died?"

"How can you ask an insensitive question, Hwang Yejun?!"

"Only sixteen years old and above awaken as Hunters, and Guides only awaken in their early twenties," Yejun said, ignoring the talking orange’s complaint. "So, you can’t be five years old when you died. Did you get a new body when you become the System’s Admin?"

"The answer to that question is confidential!"

"You’re not going to ask twice?!"

"I’m not that interested," Yejun said, shrugging. "Anyway, can I kiss Wonhee on the forehead before I leave?"

"Absolutely not, you beast! It’s not romantic to kiss someone without their consent, especially when they’re sleeping! And you don’t do that to a person you’re not in a relationship with! It’s called sexual assault!"

"I hope the System is that protective towards all the Guides in the world."

"The System is trying its best..."

The talking orange sounded weak.

[He must be embarrassed to be overprotective of Wonhee when there are other Guides, especially the low-ranking ones, being sexually abused at this very moment in different parts of the world.]

"My Wonhee will soon make the world safer for Guides," Yejun said, stretching his arms. "So you better give her all the skills she might need to succeed."

The talking orange bounced a bit, and then a soft layer of barrier surrounded the room.

It was a soundproof barrier.

[Probably to prevent Semi Noona from hearing this part of our conversation.]

"It’s possible as long as you’re crazy for Guide Chu Wonhee," the talking orange said bluntly. "Your affection for her quickens the activation of her skills, including the that the System purposely hid from her."

[I almost forgot about the side quest that asked me to love and protect Wonhee.]

He forgot because showering his Wonhee with affection became as natural as breathing to Yejun now.

"Then I’ll continue being obsessed with Wonhee for the sake of world peace," Yejun said peacefully. Then he glanced at the sleeping Wonhee and blew her a kiss. "I’ll be back, Wonhee-ya."

"GEON AND I will stay here and protect our Hee-ya, so go and follow the System’s order," Soobin said to Semi and Hwang Yejun. "Take care, Noona."

Semi nodded. "Thank you."

"Hyung, are you not going to wish me luck?" Hwang Yejun complained. "I’m on the same mission as Semi Noona."

Soobin gave Hwang Yejun a cold look. "I should be warning the people around you to be careful of you and not the other way around."

And Hwang Yejun just laughed as if he found it funny.

[I’m being serious, though?]

"You should go," Geon encouraged the two. "If you can, please take a sample of the Virus and bring it to us."

Semi and Hwang Yejun both nodded.

And, in just the blink of an eye, the two already disappeared.

That made Soobin feel a bit sad.

[So, I’m not the only Hunter in Korea who can teleport.]

"Our Hee-ya is still asleep, isn’t she?"

Soobin turned to Geon and nodded. "The System said our Hee-ya’s Admin is with her, so we should just guard her from here. Why?" Updates are released by novel⁂fire.net

Geon fell silent for a moment before opening his mouth. "I finally got the chance to talk to the Guides who supposedly gave Hwang Yejun some Guiding during the time that he was locked up in the basement. All of their stories matched, so I can’t move the investigation further."

His husband nodded before explaining. "Upon digging further for more information, I found out that those B-Class Guides all took in an apprentice a year ago– around the time Hwang Yejun snapped and got demoted as an X-Class."

"Do Guides need an apprentice?"

"B-Class and A-Class Guides are allowed to take an apprentice or two," Geon explained. "Since Guides are fewer than Hunters, we tend to flock together to help and protect each other. But high-class Guides usually take in low-ranking apprentices to protect them. It’s almost a tradition now, so the National Guide Center can’t keep track of all the low-ranking apprentices that high-class Guides take under their wings. We simply assume that the apprentices they take are trust-worthy because high-class Guides have name value."

Geon looked embarrassed while explaining the mistake that the National Guide Center, but he really didn’t understand why his husband felt that way.

[A large association like the National Guide Center can’t be perfect all the time.]

In fact, Geon wouldn’t be surprised if there were a few bad apples among the National Guide Center.

"I already got the names of the low-ranking Guides that those B-Class Guides had taken in," Geon said, pressing his temples. "Only one executive from the Center "happened" to be in charge of all those low-ranking Guides. He sent them out of the Center without my approval even though newly-awakened Guides had to stay with us for a few months."

"So, I assume that the executive you’re talking about is a traitor?"

His husband nodded, his face grim. "I asked my people to kidnap that executive. He’s currently under our basement."

Soobin almost choked on his saliva. "Excuse me?"

"I can’t launch an official investigation because I’m sure Kwon Jiwoong would meddle," Geon said defensively. "So, I asked my people to kidnap that traitor when a Crack near the Center burst open recently. Right now, his family and our employees think he’s one of the people that got missing because of the chaos that day."

"What do you plan to do with that person?"

"I’ll make him spill the beans, of course."

Soobin fell silent for a moment, and then he burst out laughing.

[This is why I love this man.]

Soobin just laughed harder, and then he wrapped his arms around Geon. "Actually, I also have good news," he said, whispering in Geon’s ear. "My people have already found traces of Actress Choi Sumin."

Yes, he was talking about the actress who got Wonhee arrested.

[Our Hee-ya said that the Choi Sumin who posted an apology video wasn’t the real Choi Sumin, so I immediately mobilized my people to investigate.]

"So, where is Actress Choi Sumin?"

Geon broke their embrace to look at Soobin with knitted eyes. "You don’t know yet?"

Soobin grinned mischievously. "We have to interrogate Park Ruda first."

[MY SON did a good job.]

Yejun was proud of Do Ahyeon’s work.

When he arrived at Park Ruda’s apartment, the place where the System led him, he found the other members of the Big 4 already there.

Park Ruda was standing in the corner, nervously watching the entire thing.

That ’entire thing’ was Do Ahyeon putting a protective barrier around Lee Seodam.

The fake carnivore was lying on the sofa, still unconscious, as his body emitted a dark fog that could make any Awakened Person’s skin crawl.

[That must be the Virus.]

"I-It just happened," Do Ahyeon reported nervously, but his voice was still polite. "I-I trapped Lee Seodam inside my barrier as soon as the fog appeared. It happened t-three minutes ago, I think..."

"You did well, my son," Yejun said, patting Do Ahyeon on the back. "You may remove the barrier now. It’s hard to kill Lee Seodam with that."

Park Ruda looked at Yejun in disbelief but didn’t say anything and only watched as Do Ahyeon’s barrier finally collapsed.

"We’re not here to kill him," Semi said, sighing. "We’re here to catch the Virus."

"But I think it’s okay to kill Lee Seodam to catch the Virus," Graham said casually. "It will be an honor for a Hunter like Lee Seodam to die for the sake of the greater good."

Song Moonho just smiled and shook his head.

Yejun was about to support Graham, but Lee Seodam suddenly spoke in his sleep.

Before Yejun could even think about it, he already had an ice dagger against Lee Seodam’s throat.

Semi had a jelly of dangerous-looking potion in her hand.

Song Moonho had a sword made of bones.

Graham had red fireballs floating above his palms.

All of them immediately went into attack mode when Lee Seodam woke up, his body still covered in dark fog.

[Is he going to wake up as the Virus or as Lee Seodam?]

Yejun scoffed when he remembered what the fake carnivore said earlier about loving Wonhee. "Yeah, and I love Kwon Jiwoong."

Lee Seodam looked shocked and confused. "Uhm, it hurts."

Yeah, because the fake carnivore’s neck was bleeding.

Yejun’s ice dagger was sharp, after all.

"Fake carnivore, do you remember what you did?" Yejun asked, pressing the ice blade against Lee Seodam’s throat harder. "You pushed Wonhee into a dungeon."

Lee Seodam’s eyes widened in shock. "I-I did that?"

Yejun raised an eyebrow.

[Is he acting or does he really not remember what he did while the Virus possessed his body?]
