Chapter 13: Chapter 13

Vian stood in front of Karin and blocked Matthew. Matthew himself was still looking at Karin.

"Why did you come here?" asked Vian.

"No one invited you here."

"Why didn't you invite me? Can I not come here?" said Matthew.

"I didn't invite you on purpose," said Vian.

"We are friends. I also want to see the cafeteria you made."

"You've seen it. Now you better get out of here!" expel Vian without further ado. Behind Vian, Karin and Silvi saw all this with a tense expression. The other guests also stopped enjoying the party to see what was going on between Vian and Matthew.

Matthew just smiled hearing Vian had kicked him out

"I was planning to go, but there is a beautiful girl here, of course I can't just leave without knowing her," said Matthew, smiling at Karin.

Vian was still standing in front of Karin.

"You don't need to know her," he insisted.

Matthew smiled as he walked closer

"Who are you? Why didn't you let me get to know her? What your relationship with her?"

"She is just my friend, It is not your need to know about her," said Vian.

Matthew laughed.

"You guys are just friends, but why can't I get to know her?"

"Because you are not a good person," said Vian.

"I don't want anything to happen to my friend if she meets someone as not good as you."

Matthe snorted and laughed as he walked closer. Now he was standing directly in front of Vian.

"Vian, Vian, she is only your friend but you forbid me to get acquainted, even though it should be up to her whether to know me or not. Is it possible that your relationship with her is not just friends?" asked Matthew in a fishing tone.

"Don't talk nonsense," Vian snapped

"She's my friend, but I don't want her to know you."

"You are very strange, Vian. You and her are just a friend, that means you have no right to prevent her from getting to introduce with anyone. You also have no right to prevent me from getting to know her."

"Right? Or maybe you guys are not just friends? If that's the case, you forbid me, I won't blame you," said Matthew again.

This time, Vian was silent. He only spoke again after a while.

"We're just friends."

Matthew nodded and immediately walked over to Karin.

"May I know you? he asked

Karin just kept quiet and stared doubtfully.

"Did Vian say bad things about me so you don't want to know me?" Matthew asked again, glancing at Vian. Vian also glared back at Matthew

"It's not like that," said Karin. "It's just that I came here at Vian's invitation. He has forbidden me to talk to you, so I must obey and respect him."

Matthew laughed out loud at Karin's answer. Such an innocent but firm girl. He had never met a girl like that in all this time and that made him even more attracted to Karin.

Meanwhile, Vian invited Karin and Silvi to sit and have talk, but soon Cindy came and met Vian. She insisted on asking him to dance with her.

Vian tried to refuse, but Cindy kept on whining, so Vian was fulfill to do what she wanted. Karin also nodded in agreement and asked Vian to accompany Cindy to dance. Vian looked worried. He had promised not to leave Karin.

"It's okay. Everything will be fine. After all, Silvi will accompany me," said Karin. With a heavy heart, Vian went to dance with Cindy.

***

After Vian left, Karin and Silvi moved to sit in the farthest seats. They feel this is not their place, so choose a place that is a bit away from the crowd. Several men looked at Karin and Silvi, but they were reluctant to approach for fear of causing a commotion like with Matthew earlier. Not to mention that even though Vian was dancing with Cindy, his eyes were still watching up at Karin.

Karin and Silvi saw couples dancing in the middle of the dance floor to soft music. Seeing Vian and Cindy dancing, Karin felt that the two were so good each other.

"Seeing like that. Are you feeling jealous?" asked Silvi in a seductive tone.

"Why would I be jealous?" said Karin

"It's clear that Vian and I are not related. Isn't it clear that we are just friends?

"Alright, alright," said Vivi

"You don't have to be angry."

Matthew smiled when he saw the two girls sitting alone. He then walked closer.

"Vian is there. Do you still not want to know me?" he asked with a smile and held out his hand to Karin.

Silvi whispered in Karin's ear, "We don't have to talk to him, he's not a nice guy."

Karin herself just stayed silent without welcoming Vian's outstretched hand. Silvi herself continues to forbid.

"But he doesn't seem to

bad intentions," Karin said not long after. She herself felt bad that Matthew kept reaching out to her.

"It looks like that but he is a playboy, we shouldn't get acquainted with him," said Silvi, glancing at Matthew with an annoyed look. Karin was silent.

A moment later, Matthew asked again,

"What are you talking about?

"We're talking about you," said Silvi.

"Why? Do you admire me?" that man asked.

"No, I really don't like you," said Silvi. Matthew laughed at that.

"This must all be because of the news in the newspapers, right? Don't believe in such news, I'm not as bad as the news about me."

He then looked back at Karin.

"Never mind, you just go, don't disturb us," said Silvi again.

Matthew glanced little at that girl, but then turned his gaze back to Karin.

"Do you think I should go like her said."

Karin was silent for a moment then shook her head. She felt bad. Just someone to chat with them, there's no way she'd be rude by kicking that person away. Matthew smiled slightly seeing that

"Karin!" Silvi scolds. "Why didn't you let him go?"

"I don't think he meant anything bad or was rude to us." Karin shook her head again.

"Let it be, people are friendly, we can't be rude back," she said in a whisper to Silvi.

Matthew then sat beside Karin after asking the girl's permission. Silvi gave Matthew a fierce look. She really didn't like that man.

'Just watch out if he's mean anything bad to my friend!' She said in her heart.

"What do you want to drink? I'll order a drink for you," Matthew said to Karin. Karin looked at Silvi and found her best friend shaking her head.

"No need," Karin said.

"This drink is enough."

Matthew smiled again. He knew Karin still didn't believe him.

"Well it's up to you," he said. He then called the waiter and ordered a drink for himself.

"If I may know your name," said Matthew, looking back at Karin.

"You don't need to know!" said Silvi.

Karin glanced at her friend briefly. She then looked back at Matthew.

"My name is Karin," said Karin. "And this is Silvi, my best friend."

Matthew reached out and introduced himself. Karin shook the man's hand back.

"It's a pleasure to meet you," said Matthew. Karin just smiled. This is all temporary for her. Just like the story of Cinderella, all will disappear and she will not meet people from that party again, including Vian and Matthew.
