Chapter 86: Chapter 86
Chapter 86
Enzo slammed his hand forcefully on the table, his grip tight. He was seething with anger but had to restrain himself. Constantly holding back his anger in front of Flora made him want to lose control. Enzo knew he had hurt Flora too much in the past, which is why he allowed her the freedom to dance outside to forget the unhappy moments between them.
But that didn't mean he would allow his wife to be swayed by another man besides him. Flora's silence only further fueled his anger; he believed her silence meant she had feelings for Ron. In Enzo's eyes, there was a burning rage and madness, and he thought he should eliminate that wretch first to erase any memories of him from his wife's mind. Enzo was overly confident, thinking that her love was so immense that it would always come back to him.
Flora looked at Enzo coldly, long past the point of caring about his illogical and unreasonable arguments. It had nothing to do with Ron or Rika, after all, she had grown too weary of her unreasonable husband. Ever since that day when she had proposed divorce, he was just an ex-husband in her eyes.
"Flora! Who gave you permission to leave while I'm talking?" Enzo angrily watched her depart. No one dared to leave without his consent, and Flora's defiance and aloofness only heightened his discomfort.
In a fit of rage, Enzo knocked over the table, and the grand room now resembled a battlefield. The housekeeper standing nearby dared not make a sound, terrified, and tried to make herself as inconspicuous as possible.
"Call Taylor here, right now!" He shouted the order.
Flora returned to the room, and she shouldn't have dined with him, but Enzo remained illogical as ever.
Lost in thought, Flora received a call from a close colleague. Initially, she thought they were inquiring about her absence from work and hadn't figured out what to say. However, her colleague's words left her stunned.
"...Is this because of Enzo? How far does he want to control me?" Flora gazed into the void, bewildered.
After assigning the task to Taylor, Enzo came to Flora's side. Despite his anger, he didn't want to be away from her for even a second, which left him uneasy.
In an attempt to mend the atmosphere between them, Enzo lowered himself. "Darling, I got too hot-headed earlier and said some harsh things. Can you forgive me?" He approached Flora from behind and tried to embrace her, but she didn't respond to his touch. Enzo thought she had stopped resisting him, but he could hear the restrained sobbing from Flora.
"Why... why did you unilaterally quit my job? I need it, and you understand, don't you?" Flora got up, avoiding his touch. She was utterly powerless in the face of Enzo's terrifying control.
Enzo wanted to improve both of their moods, but now his gaze at Flora turned cold. If she knew, he didn't need to hide it anymore.
"You need that job? How much money can you make from that job, not even enough for a dinner. If you want, I can provide much more for you." Enzo shrugged, feeling that his wife didn't need to work or struggle to earn money because he had plenty of it.
Enzo couldn't fathom why Flora never took the initiative to use his money. He had plenty of it, and if she wanted, he could provide her with everything. But she always declined.
"Indeed, my income is just enough for one of your dinners. But that's my job, what right and authority do you have to interfere with it? If it weren't for a curious colleague who called me, I might never have realized I'd been fired." Flora cried, feeling as though the whole world had turned its back on her. Her job was what allowed her to be confident and financially independent, and now...
Flora and he were two people from completely different worlds, with no common ground in their thoughts and lifestyles. Right from the start, their starting points were different, and there was a huge gap between them. In Flora's mind, she needed money and a good job to support herself and her children. But for someone who had everything from the beginning like Enzo, he couldn't understand her.
Flora looked at the man next to her, realizing that he truly wanted to block every path in her life.
"Don't worry, honey. Everything will be fine. You just need to stay with me. If you want money, I can give you a lot, a whole lot," Enzo said, indifferent to her emotions. He was doing what he believed was best for his wife, and he didn't want her to end up like that night when she went out with another man.
Flora felt completely helpless and desperate, not because she was losing her job, but because she understood that what Enzo was doing was imprisoning and destroying everything around her, destroying it until she had nothing left but him.
"You're insane... you're truly insane... you're crazy, Enzo... Why, why?" Flora sobbed, covering her face. She felt like she was sinking deeper into the mire and couldn't escape. The more she struggled, the deeper she sank.
And the mire was precisely what Enzo had created. It might not seem dangerous just by looking at it, but stepping into it meant not knowing how deep it was.
Enzo held Flora tightly, a sinister and twisted smile on his face. He enjoyed seeing his wife in despair and helplessness. He liked how she couldn't rely on anyone but him, how she was slowly sinking into the mire.
In the vast and luxurious mansion, there were only Flora and Enzo, along with a few servants. Enzo wanted a private space with his wife, so he didn't allow anyone else to be in front of her.
After Flora fell asleep from exhaustion, Enzo didn't immediately leave the room. He sat beside her and watched her for a long time. He gently stroked her pale and tired face, lovingly kissing her hand before speaking.
"Flora... I can't live without you. You won't just watch me die, will you? I know you're not that cruel... you still love me, right? Ha... even if you don't love me anymore, it's okay."
Taylor had been waiting outside, and she knew exactly what Enzo was doing, as she had taken over his tasks, including the one involving Flora losing her job.
"Sir... do you think this is too much for Miss Flora? She seems to really enjoy her current job." Despite being a loyal subordinate of Enzo, she had never opposed any of his orders before and had never expressed any opinions, but this time, she felt that Flora was being treated unfairly.
However, Flora was different from both Taylor and Enzo. She was just an ordinary woman who had inadvertently entered Enzo's world and was now unable to escape.
Enzo coldly glanced at Taylor, making her quickly lower her head and remain silent. He turned and lit a cigarette. "You seem quite close to my wife, don't you? Well, that's good. My wife doesn't have many friends."
"I respect Miss Flora just as I respect you, Sir. Besides, there is no special relationship between her and me," Taylor replied, not wanting to be a bridge between the boss and his wife.
Enzo didn't care about that and just spoke casually. "How did the media react after Rollo's birthday party?"
Taylor had come here to report this, and she answered earnestly, "Everyone is focused on the young master now; he's the center of attention in the media. Just like Miss. Mindian, many famous brands and celebrities are interested in meeting him. The high society is also paying attention. Is it okay if he's alone?"
Enzo sighed softly. "Increase security where the boy stays. Rollo will get used to it quickly. Do you know what you should do next?"
Taylor understood, but she hesitated to comply with the order immediately. "Sir, is it really necessary? Mrs. Flora doesn't have the ability to leave this place now. Do we have to go this far?"
Enzo had never explained why he issued certain orders to his subordinates. "Taylor, you've asked too many questions today. I don't like repeating myself."
Reluctantly, Taylor accepted the order and left, but a heavy stone seemed to be pressing on her heart. Although she was one of Enzo's subordinates, since she had come into contact with Flora, she had noticed that Flora was different from those who sought to get close to the boss.
To be precise, she felt a bit sorry for Flora when she only knew how to struggle in this iron cage.
Enzo didn't restrict Flora's freedom to move around or use the internet, he would give her anything she wanted. He knew that Flora wouldn't be able to escape from him, as she loved their two children, and he exploited this strong attachment to control her.
When Flora woke up, she found herself alone in the house, and there was no sign of anyone in the living room. She felt somewhat lost, as she hadn't met anyone since Rollo's birthday party took place but Enzo.
Feeling bored, Flora turned on the TV, and what she saw took her by surprise. On the big screen were images of her and Enzo, along with the headline "Who is Enzo Robert's Wife?"
Flora knew that her being known as Enzo's wife was a matter of time, as Enzo was a famous figure with a lot of influence, so his life was closely watched. But the issue was not just about the headline; they were reporting that she was a mentally unstable person with nervous problems. Following that was Enzo's statement in front of everyone.
He was dressed in a sharp suit, looking serious and dignified, exuding an air of royal authority.
[Indeed... she is my wife. We secretly got married years ago because we didn't want too much attention. My wife dislikes being bothered. Rollo and Mindian are our shared children, and all the news about me and other women are untrue.]
[So, can you explain why you kept it a secret for so many years?] a reporter asked loudly.
Enzo calmly replied, [She is a regular woman, but I love her. I was afraid she would discover her identity and avoid it, so I kept it hidden and married her like a normal couple. I haven't made my wife's identity public for many years because I was afraid she wouldn't accept and fit in.]
Everyone gasped in surprise, and another female reporter asked, [Is that really so? Are there people who don't like wealth and power?]
Enzo laughed in response, [Yes, she is exactly like that. All she needs is love, and I love my wife, and that has never changed. But... currently, my wife's health is very poor, she's suffering from depression and nervous problems. That's all you need to know, I don't want to say more about this.]
Enzo's speech continued, but Flora couldn't hear it anymore. Her phone kept updating this sensational news, and various articles about her were constantly being published and spreading like wildfire on social media.
Some articles portrayed Flora in a negative light, despite being the wife of the wealthiest and most powerful man, they accused her of being frivolous and having affairs with other men. This was why Enzo Robert had kept her identity hidden for many years, to protect her image.
Other articles spoke of Flora's leaving, claiming that she followed the call of love, leaving her daughter and husband for nearly five years before returning. Yet, Enzo Robert still forgave her and didn't want a divorce because he loved her.
Flora felt as if her heart had stopped as she read these baseless articles on the internet. She knew that these stories were completely untrue, and the authors didn't know what had really happened between her and Enzo, but her heart ached as she read them.
Enzo and his wife's story of depression was spreading widely, and most people praised Enzo as an admirable man, a fantastic husband, and a devoted father. They condemned his wife as a terrible person.
Not only that, some people were digging into Flora's past, and in a matter of moments, everyone knew that she had once lived at the bottom of society. Her past life was described vividly and used to ridicule her.
[So, she used to be poor and pitiful like that... maybe that's why she's so greedy.]
[It seems her mother was also a prostitute, so she must be the same, probably due to genetic inheritance.]
[Why does Enzo Robert forgive a woman like her, and even hide it for her?]
[Are those two children really Enzo Robert's?]
[If she were my wife, I would have kicked her out a long time ago. She must be faking her illness for Enzo Robert's sympathy.]
Whether on social media or in various articles, everyone was harshly condemning Flora while glorifying Enzo as a god-like figure. Flora couldn't understand why people who didn't know the truth would target her in this way.
