Chapter 82: Chapter 82
Chapter 82
Mr. Hill and his daughter, Madian, were happily chatting in the living room. Madian had long admired Enzo Robert. When she learned that her father was collaborating with Enzo's DIZ conglomerate, she felt immensely proud and joyful. Her happiness wasn't solely because her father could work with such a prominent conglomerate, but also because it provided her with an easier way to get closer to Enzo.
Upon hearing that her father would introduce her to Enzo Robert, Madian was overjoyed but maintained a hint of shyness on the outside.
"I will follow everything that Dad arranges," Madian said.
Mr. Hill was very pleased, he was always proud of having such a talented and virtuous daughter. Up to this point, Mr. Hill and his wife had carefully managed their daughter's upbringing, hoping that she would marry a wealthy and suitable son-in-law, and Enzo Robert seemed like the perfect son-in-law.
However, their joy was short-lived as the assistant entered to report, "Sir, Mr. Robert has declined to attend the birthday party today."
Mr. Hill furrowed his brow, not expecting Enzo to decline so quickly and straightforwardly. Nevertheless, he wasn't overly surprised, considering Enzo's status; he wouldn't casually attend events.
"Why is that?" Mr. Hill inquired.
"Mrs. Robert is not pleased, so he declined," the assistant replied.
Madian frowned upon hearing "Mrs. Robert," feeling uncomfortable, but she didn't show it on her face.
"Isn't it that Mr. Robert doesn't pay attention to his wife? Are you sure he declined and not because his wife did?" Mr. Hill questioned, as the entire upper class knew that Enzo didn't pay much attention to his wife, though they knew he had a wife, they didn't know who she was or her influence.
"It was Mr. Robert who declined; I received the information from Miss Taylor. She explicitly stated the reason," the assistant said, taking a deep breath before continuing, "And Mr. Robert wants to cancel all the ongoing and planned projects with us."
"What? Are you sure? How could this happen so suddenly...?" Mr. Hill was thunderstruck by this news, unable to comprehend what was happening.
"You can't make this up. The collaboration between my father and Mr. Robert is crucial, and we can't make a joke out of it," Madian was also shocked, unable to believe her ears when she heard the assistant's report. Just a moment ago, she was envisioning a love story with Enzo.
The assistant maintained a serious expression and patiently replied, "I am not speaking untruths. I met with Miss Taylor, and she assured me that she would prepare the compensation for contract termination as stipulated."
Mr. Hill felt like he was crumbling, his career had flourished, his company was doing well, and they had good financial support, all thanks to the collaborations with the DIZ conglomerate. Without DIZ's assistance, he feared he might struggle to maintain his current position.
In less than five minutes, the joyful atmosphere in the room turned grim, and both Mr. Hill and his daughter had pale, shocked faces.
In the end, neither of them understood what was happening or why Mr. Robert had acted this way. Mr. Hill couldn't fathom what he had done to anger Enzo and cause everything like this.
Flora was sitting in the cold room, completely unaware that she had caught the attention of the upper-class society. After Enzo's refusal to attend Mr. Hill's birthday party, citing his wife's displeasure as the reason, it had drawn significant attention. Most individuals in the upper echelons of society wanted to offer their daughters and granddaughters to Enzo, solely for the advantages and higher social status it would bring.
Enzo, on the other hand, couldn't care less about Mr. Hill's life or his company, Monodes. The compensation money for the contract breach and the unfinished projects were insignificant to him, but they were of great concern to Mr. Hill and Monodes.
Taylor lightly knocked on the door and entered the living room, reporting, "Sir, Mr. Hill wishes to meet with you for a conversation."
Enzo took a sip of his coffee, contemplating his own actions, feeling somewhat regretful for not being able to completely restore his own sense of justice during the punishment he had inflicted on those who had disrupted his happiness. "I'm not interested," Enzo replied indifferently, then suddenly had a thought and called Taylor back, "Let him in, coincidentally, I also want to see Flora's reaction."
Taylor didn't understand but complied, while Mr. Hill impatiently stood outside the grand mansion. He couldn't help but feel anxious and bewildered, he never expected Enzo to be so capricious. Even if he canceled the cooperation, there was no rational reason for him to do so. Madian stood before the large mansion, her eyes widening in surprise. She had always thought her family's house was sizable, but this place was even grander, resembling a colossal palace.
As the gates opened, Mr. Hill was overjoyed, and he and his daughter entered. "Father, what is Mr. Robert like?" Madian asked curiously.
At this moment, Mr. Hill was not in the mood to answer, he simply said, "I don't know, all I know is that he's not the kind of impulsive person, nor does he let emotions interfere with his work."
"But he declined us because of his wife," Madian disagreed. This was precisely what left Mr. Hill puzzled about what was going on in Enzo's mind.
Mr. Hill was too flustered to look around as he followed Taylor into the grand living room. "Both of you, please wait a moment, Mr. Enzo will be here shortly," Taylor said with a friendly smile.
Madian surveyed the room, marveling at its size. "Father, if I could become Mr. Robert's wife, I could be the mistress of this grand mansion."
Mr. Hill shared the same desire, that's why he wanted to introduce his daughter to Enzo. Forget about becoming Enzo's wife, even being his extramarital lover or bedmate would be a great honor.
"There's already a mistress here," came the composed voice of the man who had just entered. He had heard Madian's flirtatious tone and her desire to become the mistress of the mansion.
Mr. Hill and Madian quickly stood up to greet him, surprised to see Enzo holding the hand of a rather ordinary-looking woman beside him. They were taken aback as they watched Enzo care for her like a devoted husband.
"What's going on?" Enzo furrowed his brow and asked. He seated Flora next to him; due to the effects of the medication, she felt tired and walked a bit slowly but didn't require assistance. At first, she didn't understand why Enzo suddenly held her, but now she realized that there were guests, and he wanted them to see him taking care of her like a good husband.
Seeing Enzo treat the woman beside him so affectionately, Mr. Hill was certain that this woman had a very special background. Just a moment ago, his daughter had spoken words that made him fear Enzo might be displeased, so on behalf of his daughter, Mr. Hill apologized, "I'm truly sorry. My daughter lacks awareness, so... I hope you can forgive her."
"Alright, go ahead. What brings you here?" Enzo replied without looking at Mr. Hill, focusing instead on pouring tea for Flora.
Mr. Hill was puzzled by Enzo's actions but didn't forget his purpose for coming here. He continued, "Sir, I'm here to ask if there's anything you're dissatisfied with regarding our projects and contracts. Please, speak up, and I will make the necessary adjustments to meet your preferences."
Madian stared intently at Flora, silently evaluating her. She didn't seem particularly remarkable, and although her looks were not bad, there were many beautiful women like her. Madian was also quite certain that Flora was not a famous person, as she knew most celebrities from various fields.
Enzo sighed, "Well, about that..."
"The projects and contracts are not an issue at all... It's just that my wife isn't happy, so I declined to collaborate with you," Enzo shrugged, speaking casually.
Not only Mr. Hill and Madian, but Flora herself was shocked to be mentioned. Flora turned to Enzo in astonishment, "What?!"
"My wife wasn't pleased with the idea of you offering your daughter to me. While my decision to decline your birthday party and projects was mine, it was also because I didn't want my wife to be unhappy," Enzo said, appearing completely relaxed, his eyes filled with affection for Flora.
However, Flora was left speechless and sweating profusely due to Enzo's words. She had no idea what was happening. "I... I have no idea about any of this... Enzo, what are you talking about?" Flora couldn't comprehend what game Enzo was playing, and she angrily confronted him.
Mr. Hill and Madian were both astonished to see a woman challenging the man who held immense power, someone known for being cold, serious, and ruthless. But before Enzo could respond, Mr. Hill quickly understood that the woman next to Enzo had a special status, so he approached her urgently, "Madam, I sincerely apologize. It's all my fault. I was foolish not to consider your feelings. It's my foolishness, and I beg you to forgive me. If those projects are canceled, I'll be ruined, and my company will be ruined as well... I brought my daughter here today to apologize to you. I'm truly sorry... please, forgive my ignorant mistake."
Flora was shocked to see Mr. Hill kneeling in front of her, and she hurriedly tried to help him stand up but was stopped by Enzo, who wrapped his arm around her waist and pulled her back. He didn't want Flora to touch anyone, whether male or female.
"Please, get up... I don't understand what's going on," Flora said, feeling confused and increasingly exhausted both physically and mentally.
