Chapter 29: Chapter 29

...........Steve's pov..........

Rachel and I stopped by a famous restaurant where celebrities normally spend their night dates. They had the best continental dishes and best serving styles.

She had already made a reservation since morning so we took our seats at the selected table.

"Thank you so much for accepting my offer" She said after we had settled down and placed our orders.

She dropped her hands on the table and I could see her spotless shimmering finger nails reflecting on the chandelier hanging above us.

"It's alright.." I replied less bothered.

"I was above the clouds when I received the e-mail stating that the firm chose me to become the overseer" She said frenetically.

"We chose you out of three thousand employees and diplomats. You're lucky" I remarked.

The waiter arrived and poured us a fair quantity of wine while his assistant set down our plates.

I took my own glass of wine after they were done and clicked glasses with Rachel.

"Cheers...to more success" She stated and we both sipped from our drink.

"Your mother is so nice. She has that spark of kindness. I would never disappoint her. She doesn't deserve anything bad at all" She pointed out with a big smile.

"Yeah...she's the best - Can never hurt a fly. She's actually the best thing that has ever happened to me. She helped me find true love" I reminisced picturing Tessy.

"Your wife?" Rachel chipped in taking another sip.

"Yeah...Tessy" I replied smiling a bit.

She smiled too and looked down at the table.

"Finding true love is the best thing that can ever happen to a human being....I actually lost my husband last year. It was really horrible and I can't seem to move on" She chipped staring down.

I swallowed hard not knowing whatelse to say. I can't even imagine loosing Tessy. I'd hate myself...

"So, you've been married. You don't look like someone that has ever been to the alter" I admitted flabbergasted.

She chuckled and shook her head fervently.

"I've been married, sir. To a soldier. It didn't last long since he was shot during a mission. But then...his death made me focus more on my career. I've always felt like everything about him mattered most".

"I know that feeling. I've always done everything my mom wanted me to do. Even leaving my wife and son for weeks just to work for them. I've realized that I have my own life to live no matter what...so I'm breaking free" I said with a shrug.

"Tessy's lucky to have you. In fact! You two are my favorite couple" She remarked gleefully.

"That's sweet" I muttered finishing the glass of wine.

"So, what does she do?" She suddenly asked and my lips perked up.

I completely went numb.

"She uh....she's not into anything right now"

No....I had to take back my words!!...

"She's just taking care of the baby" I professed dumbfounded.

She mouthed an 'oh' and started eating.

God! I was on a hot seat. I felt utterly embarrassed. I shouldn't but all those words came out the wrong way.

Tessy's hardworking but she doesn't have a job since she didn't go to college.

She wanted to get a job but I stopped her from attempting due to the baby. It would be much stress on her. And we don't even need the extra money she'd be getting.

The rest of the evening was filled with more talks and gists that left us laughing and a high frenetic humor.

I drove her back to the company so she could take her own car home before driving home to Tessy.

...........(Weekend)..........

........TESSY......

I was da*n excited about Steve being changed to follow me to the hospital for the couple seminar.

I have a feeling the event ain't gonna be ordinary.

There were other couples around In their most exquisite outfit. We were served wine and asked to wait patiently for the relationship adviser.

He finally showed up and I seemed to notice he looked so familiar. Like I've met him before.

He talked about a lot of things with so much passion and it didn't take up to an hour and a lady was found crying profusely.

It looked like her partner has not been doing things right with her.

She was consoled and the adviser continued. I wondered if Steve was paying attention to the man's teachings too.

Classes were over and most of the couples went ahead to ask the doctor some questions.

Steve wrote him a check containing a huge amount of money and handed it to one of his staffs before we left the premises.

Well, I admire doctors so much. They save lives most times. They're the best!

I noticed Steve was holding my hand possessively and when I looked up, I saw someone approaching us.
