Chapter 56: Chapter 56
Erik’s POV
I have missed my mate and longed for her touch, but now that she is in front of her, I can’t even get close to her. She is full of fear and anger that she bursts out at any moment. That night, we slept in a different room. Saying she wanted to be by herself, and I respected her decision. I am thankful to Luna Rica that she chose the room beside Clara for me to use.
It was already morning, and I planned on asking Clara to join me for breakfast, but when I was about to knock on her door, she opened it and was fully dressed. “Good morning,” I greeted. She walked past me, and I followed her from behind. My wolf whined at our mate’s rejection of us.
“Where are you going?” I asked softly.
“Alpha Louis’s territory,” She replied, and I hurriedly grabbed her hand to stop her from walking.
“What?” She asked me with an annoyed voice.
“Why would you go there? Let me go instead,” I offered, and she removed her arm from my grasp. My wolf whined again.
Clara looked at me with an annoyed face, and I pursed my lips.
“INSTEAD OF WORRYING ABOUT ME, HOW ABOUT YOU GO OUT THERE AND SEARCH FOR OUR MISSING CHILD!” She suddenly shouted at me. I couldn’t take it anymore, and I grabbed both of her shoulders and faced her properly.
“I’VE BEEN LOOKING FOR THE BOTH OF YOU FOR MONTHS! YOU HAVEN’T SAID ANYTHING ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU! OR EVEN SHARE YOUR PLANS FOR GOING TO ALPHA LOUIS’S TERRITORY! AND HERE YOU ARE SHOUTING AND GETTING ANGRY AT EVERYONE WHO HASN’T SLEPT FOR DAYS SEARCHING OUTSIDE! YOU CAN’T EVEN SHARE SOMETHING, AND YOU ONLY BLAME US?!” I shouted at her and let go of her shoulders. I turned my back on her, “What’s wrong with you?” I asked with a sad voice. She no longer replied, so I left her there and headed straight to Alpha Kyle’s office.
Vincent looked at me and gave me a sad smile. I smiled back at him sheepishly and walked straight to the seat. I sat down. Vincent and Alpha Kyle exchanged glances, and I could tell they were both nervous. “Report,” I said with a serious tone.
“We followed your orders and sniffed out her majesty’s scent, and we found something,” Alpha Kyle said. I looked at him, expecting he found some clues about my child’s whereabouts.
Alpha Kyle gulped nervously, and I just waited for him to give me the thing they found. In a few seconds, Alpha Kyle gave me a dress, and instantly, I recognized whose dress it was. The dress was what Clara was wearing on the day she got kidnapped. The dress was full of blood stains mixed with dirt and mud. I gripped the dress tightly and began to imagine what Clara had been through. I gritted my teeth in anger and realized I had to talk with Clara properly.
“I will go after my mate,” I said. Vincent gave me a confused look. “She went to Alpha Louis’s pack,” I said.
“I’ll go with you,” Vincent said, and I nodded in reply.
“Alpha Kyle, widen your search around that area. List down all the territories that are residing in the north,” I ordered.
Alpha Kyle bowed, and I left the office with Vincent following from behind. “Did you talk with Clara?” I asked Vincent while walking. He shook his head, “She refuses to meet me. I want to see my little sister, but she needs more time to adjust back here on the outside,” Vincent said, and I just stayed quiet and focused on walking through the pack house until we arrived outside.
“Let’s use the car. Some of the guys that followed us brought one,” Vincent said while playing with the keys on his fingers.
I nodded and rode in the front seat, and Vincent was in the driver’s seat. As we rode toward Alpha Louis’s territory, I kept thinking about how I would ease the pain my mate was feeling. It also pains me not even to have the chance to see my child. How about Clara, who bore the child for months and instantly got away? I should be understanding and wait for her to return fully.
Vincent skillfully drove in the middle of the forest at an insane speed. He really needs to control how fast he drives. We arrived early, as expected since Vincent thought that what he went was a racecar. Some of the pack members recognized my face of Vincent, and when they turned to me to look at my face, they soon realized who I was, and they all kneeled down before me.
“Where is my queen?” I asked coldly, and they all glanced at each other. “The king asked a question!” Vincent shouted at them, and they winced at Vincent’s voice.
“Her highness is inside, but,” One of the werewolves said but stopped talking. He was hesitant to tell me what was wrong.
“What!” Vincent shouted again, becoming impatient.
“Her highness is killing some of our members, saying they are rogues!” The other werewolf answered. Instead, he shouted his answer while closing his eyes.
“Killing?” I asked myself. I rushed inside the territory until I smelled some blood mixed with Clara’s scent. I followed the scent and saw countless werewolves on the ground bleeding, while Clara was standing in the middle choking someone while lifting the werewolf in the air. Blood splattered all over Clara’s dress, and in the blink of an eye, she snapped the neck of the werewolf that she was choking.
“My Queen,” I hesitantly called.
Clara turned to me and looked uninterested. “What? Is it wrong to kill some rogues? Especially when they infiltrated one of my territories?” Clara asked calmly, and she looked at me with a confused expression.
“Our mate is drowning,” Liam said, and I looked at Clara with wide eyes, worried about what would become of my one and only Queen.
Clara’s POV
What’s wrong with Erik’s face? I didn’t kill someone innocent. As far as I know, I am not doing something wrong. “I still smell some rouge,” Angeline said, and I threw the body of the rogue that I had just killed on the ground. I looked around at the pack members and saw one rogue quietly leaving, and I ran towards the rogue. When I got near him, I let out my claws and instantly stabbed him from behind. In a few seconds, he fell to the ground, lifeless.
I looked back at the remaining pack members, who were currently shocked by what had happened. Erik was one of them who was now standing and just watching with a shocked face. I didn’t care about it anyways, so I started walking away from them. I saw Alpha Louis’s wife walk towards me. “What is it?” I asked coldly.
She bowed down to me nervously. “Your highness, I suggest you take a shower,” She said, and I slightly tilted my head sideward, trying to peek at her face while bowing. I touched my chin and thought about it for a while. “Understood, lead the way,” I said and heard Luna sigh in relief.
I looked back at my brother Vincent and Erik. Seeing their shocked faces didn’t make me feel anything. I can’t blame them for being surprised. I don’t want to be weak anymore, and I don’t want someone to die for my sake. What happened to Alpha Louis is enough to wake me up. I need to be strong enough to face countless rogues so no one will die protecting me anymore.
“Are you okay?” I asked Angeline.
“I am, don’t worry, and this place is clean. I can’t smell rogues any longer. No matter how many potions they use to hide their scent, I can still distinguish them,” Angeline snarled, thinking about rogues.
“That’s good enough for me,” I replied proudly to Angeline.
I followed Alpha Louis’s Luna to the room where I would be changing. Along the way, some she-wolf handed a new set of clothes to the Luna, and I’m guessing that it is for me to use. When we arrived at the room, she immediately went inside the bathroom to prepare everything that I would use. She was about to leave when I stopped her.
“You know where his study is at, do you?” I asked, and her eyes grew big in surprise. She immediately masked her surprised face and lightly bowed her head at me.
“Yes, your highness,” She replied softly.
“After I shower, I will go there,” I said, and she nodded. I turned my back to her and entered the bathroom to clean myself. I saw my reflection in the mirror, and I looked like a ghost full of blood. I sighed and took a shower.
The cold water dripped and touched my skin, making me feel refreshed. I feel so tired. Should I tell Erik and leave everything to him? Thinking about waiting at home and making Erik do the work seems like a dream. I told myself that I would no longer rely on him and that I should be strong enough to handle things by myself so I won’t experience this kind of thing again. I closed the shower and wiped myself dry before leaving the bathroom. I changed into new clothes and headed straight outside. I saw Alpha Louis’s Luna waiting by the door. She saw me and bowed. She quietly guided me to the office of Alpha Louis.
“This is his office and personal space,” she said and left me by myself at the office. I looked around the office, it was full of bookshelves in any corner, but he said to look for his diary in his hidden study. Walls, walls, walls, he said the entrance was on the walls. I need someone to move these bookshelves. I sighed when I thought about asking Erik for help.
“Erik,” I called in our mind link.
“Hmm,” he replied like he didn’t want to talk to me, but I didn’t care. I need him to move these big bookshelves.
“Come to Alpha Louis’s study and help me with something,” I said to him, and in a few minutes, the door flung open. Erik was breathing heavily, and it seemed that he had run here.
“Move the bookshelves enough for me to walk through, and I need to suspect the walls,” I ordered, talking to him as coldly as possible. Every time that I face Erik, I feel so irritated. I do not want to be in the same room as him.
“Oh, okay,” he said, looking disappointed, but I just stood in the middle of the room, quietly waiting for him to move.
When he noticed that I was waiting for him to move, he awkwardly turned his back on me and walked closer to one of the bookshelves. He easily moved the bookshelf without breaking a sweat. He continued moving the bookshelves, and I walked through behind the bookshelves one by one to inspect the walls. The wall was flawlessly done. Not even one crack was on it until I found some small hole in the corner of the office.
I put in my finger to see if something was inside the hole, and there was something like a button. I pressed the button, and the wall moved until an entrance was shown. I looked back at Erik; he was watching everything I was doing. “Aren’t you going to leave?” I asked. I’m not trying to make him leave, but if he wants to come, he should follow rather than stand there.
“Can I?” He asked with a low voice.
“I never said you can’t,” I replied and turned my back to enter the hidden room. I heard him sigh from behind but acted like I didn’t hear anything.
We were just with each other for how many minutes, and now I am getting irritated again. I don’t hate him, but every time I see his face, I feel annoyed and angry for some reason. I know I love him and trust him with all of my heart, but after what happened and I saw him in front of me, I felt some distance between us, and maybe that is the cause why I feel irritated every time I see him.
