Chapter 194: Chapter 194
"Mom, you know…"
"I just can't come back home like this. I need to apply for a holiday from my company." Julia takes a deep breath. As she continued.
"And…I already thought I would be back home for a few days to stay at the end of this month."
She tried to explain to her mother as she asked her to come home to meet them.
"I know sweetheart, but can't you come for one day at least? We missed you so much. It has been such a long time since your dad and I saw you…" Her mother's voice turned upset.
"Mom! I also missed you both!" Julia mumbled with helplessness as she didn't want to make her parents upset but there was no choice.
"Then why not come? Even if it is just for a day. It will be enough for your dad and me to meet you. Just consider that one more time."
Julia's hand automatically moved to her forehead and she pressed it lightly with her fingertips before breathing out and again talking, "Mom, sorry but my schedule is busy this weekend."
"Tomorrow is a work day, after that Saturday, I need to go to the hospital with Rebecca for her second-trimester checkup and Sunday can't be possible as I can't find a train in time to come back and attend the office in the early morning."
Julia opened up about her programs completely. To let her mother know, she's having a tight schedule.
However, her mother tried to find a solution for her.
"Julia, can you request Rebecca to go to this appointment by herself?"
Julia frowned.
"Mom, You know her condition. She has no one to rely on."
Her mother sighed which was heard by her.
"Yes honey, I understand. But it's just for once. And I know she's a kind girl. She will understand."
Julia's hand tightens on the phone.
As she got into deep thought for a long second before finally responding with apologies, "Sorry, Mom, I don't think. I can leave her. The doctor personally asked someone to present this time with her."
Julia thought her mother was going to be angry.
However, her mother all did exhale a long breath just like before and said, "It's alright dear. If this is your decision. I'm not going to force you. Just take care of yourself and Rebecca."
Julia knew her mom is a generous and kind person. But the way she still maintains her calmness after her refusal. She truly felt bad.
"I'm sorry, Mom. But I promise. I'll meet you and dad at the end of the month."
"Alright. It's already your dad's medicine time. Let's talk some other day."
Julia also doesn't dare to stop her mom anymore and talk, so she just agrees and finally bids bye.
After the phone screen turned black, she looked at the black screen with deep discomfort and mumbled, "I missed you, mom, I missed you, dad…but I just can't come right now."
When she was feeling helpless, Rebecca, who was standing with meal plates in her hands at the kitchen door, heard her conversation with her mother and instantly felt deeply upset…Because she is also one of the reasons Julia is not going to her hometown to meet her parents.
She stayed paused with her cautious expression in her spot for long minutes until Julia suddenly noticed her and called her out.
"Rebecca, why are you standing there?"
Hearing her, she immediately flashed a big smile like she heard nothing.
She walked towards her and placed the plates on the table.
"Nothing." She casually responded.
Julia nodded lightly, pushing her parent's thoughts, and flashed a fake tiny smile.
She tries to hide her worries about her mother being upset after her conclusion.
"The aroma is great!" Julia tries to sound cool as she holds the plate in her hand and inhales it.
Rebecca nodded as she discerned Julia was acting to look happy, "Yeah, it is."
They both continue eating without talking more.
When Julia almost finished her half meal, her eyes went to Rebecca who looked out of space, and her meal was still on her plate as usual.
Julia frowned and asked with doubt, "What happened? Why are you not eating?"
"Don't you like the taste of food by any chance?"
Rebecca looked at her and shook her head in denial.
"No. The food is good."
"Then?" Julia inquiries.
Rebecca thinks for a second before making up her mind to talk to her.
"Julia," She shrugged.
"I heard your conversation with Aunt."
Julia didn't surprise to hear that as she already somehow felt Rebecca already listened to the conversation when she saw her standing paused at the kitchen gate.
However, when Rebecca didn't talk about it. She thought it was just her wrong guess.
"What did you hear?" She still tries to sound cool.
But Rebecca can't support her friend in acting and smiling like her.
When she is disappointed with her friend's decision to not go and meet her parents.
