Chapter 166: Chapter 166
Rebecca spent the whole day doing the job and she also informed many customers about her leaving after today. They showed an upset face but soon gave her blessing to get a better life from here.
Rebecca never thought only in a few days, she was going to make undeniable bonding with people around here. But she's happy they didn't ask her why she's leaving but give her all their blessing and wish her luck to be good and get a better life.
Rebecca looked at her wristwatch and found it was almost 4 pm right now. She will ask for leave after one hours later. As no more customers are showing anymore. She can leave without worries.
After thinking that, she started listing out all the books to get them back to the cupboard, and then she listed out papers related to borrowers.
She almost got too busy to short out the work…that she forgot it was almost ready an hour passed. She should be leaving right now. But watching the last paper needs to be listed out. She didn't mind going out half an hour late.
She scrolled through papers when her phone rang and diverted her attention. She moved her gaze from papers to the phone which is just beside that.
Watching Julia's name pop up on the screen. She sighed and immediately attended the call.
"Hello."
"Where are you?" Julia directly asked her. As her time was already over a long minute ago. But she doesn't call her back. If she left her workplace or not.
"Sorry, I think, I need more than half an hour."
Julia immediately frowned.
"Rebecca, that's enough with work. You should come back home now. I'm also leaving work."
"This fast?"
"Yes, I got some files to look through it and they told me. I can do that from home."
"Good for you."
"Yeah, I know. But this topic doesn't make me forget to tell you."
"I'm sorry. But please just a half an hour more. I'll come back."
"You are too much, Rebecca. You broke your promise to leave before sunset. And now even after being late, you asked me to give you more time to leave from there."
"Julia, please. It's the last day of my work. Let me do that. After today, I'm not going to come here anyway." There is sorrow in her words. Julia could sense that and could not help but agree with her at last.
"Alright. You can stay for half an hour. But not more than that. If you take even a minute more, I'll come there to take you."
Rebecca chuckled to hear her warning.
"You don't need to do that. I'll leave before then."
"Good."
"Then let's meet at home." Julia gets out of the company entrance.
"Yeah," Rebecca responded and disconnected the call to get back to her work.
While Julia calls Sam and reports to him about Rebecca's news.
Sam sighed to hear that.
"Alright, let me know when she comes back."
"Yeah, alright," Julia responded. While Sam disconnected the call and turned to sit on his chair when he noticed Edwin standing at his cabin door and looking at him with an angry gaze.
"Boss…" He paused to watch him.
However, Edwin avoided his reaction and moved toward him before raising a question in a domineering tone, "Is she still there in the work?"
Sam almost fell stuck to answering him.
"Tell me, Damn it!" He roared out.
To which Sam instantly responded with a nervous voice, "Yes, Boss."
Edwin's brows twisted with anger. His expression always turned cold and serious. He didn't ask anymore but turned and left the cabin in a fast phase.
Sam could silently watch him go and pray that Edwin doesn't make things worse with his anger.
.
.
"Dear, you should go home. It's already sunset." The old man comes toward her counter and tells her.
Rebecca looked at him and said, "But uncle, there is still some work left."
"Yeah but it's alright. I can do that tomorrow. You should be going back home now. Your friend should be worrying about you."
Rebecca looked at the paper and then at him.
"Uncle, I can do that today."
"No dear, you already helped me so much and now I'm feeling well too. You should go back. Before it turns darker. I can manage the last hour by myself and there are no longer any customers anyway."
Rebecca finally nodded in agreement.
"Alright, uncle. Then let me just set the papers in the corner."
"Yeah, sure." The old man nodded.
In just a few minutes, she set everything accordingly.
"Let me walk you to the door." The old man politely announced while Rebecca walked with him.
They started walking towards the corridor to go towards the door. When suddenly the surrounding turned darker. The electric power was turned off.
Rebecca and the old man stopped on their way. To face the darkness.
"Oh, dear! I think the light is gone. Let me find the candle first. You stay here. It's dark. You can be hit by any object." The old man declared and walked towards his cabin.
Rebecca silently stood in her place. A few seconds later she heard a little noise coming around. However, she felt it was because of darkness the atmosphere felt more silent and she could hear even a little sound.
"Here is the candle!" The old man mumbled to himself and took out the candle from the drawer. He pushed the drawer back and came out of the cabin to close the door. However, when he is ready to turn to finally go back to Rebecca where he made her stand.
Someone approached him from behind with force and held his arms from behind. The old man pancake tried to shout but soon a napkin with some kind of chemical pressed on his nose.
He was nearly horrified and tried to get rid of the person behind him but the person was too strong for an old person like him and soon the chemical smell made him close his eyes and lose his conscience.
