Chapter 162: Chapter 162
"Mam, we are at the destination." The cab driver stopped the car and announced while looking at Rebecca from the front mirror.
Rebecca nodded and asked, "Thank you, how much is it?"
"40 dollars."
Rebecca paid the driver and got out of the car.
She walked towards the narrow way when she stopped at the place where she and Edwin argued last night. She almost didn't think about the bully person because all her thoughts were captured by Edwin and his deep meaningful sights. His statements and threatening words.
She stood there for a long moment in a pause before walking towards the library direction.
As soon as when she stood in front of the library building. She felt happy and sad. Even though she rarely spends only a few days here and spends time talking to people, not even for hours. She could feel herself upset and sad to think about moving out from here.
The way everyone treated her here happily. She felt too glad and happier after a long time.
This is the place where she won't need to hide the truth about herself and her pregnancy. These days make her feel so relaxed that she doesn't need to hide anything.
She is so peaceful that she almost ignores drunken men and bullies guys. She started to love to spend her day here. She also started to like books to read out in her free time.
She can't explain to anyone why she is so attached to this place. But for her guess, because everyone accept her as soon as she steps here and loved her so much.
The normal life she always wanted, she started to get it here.
The alone time she needs from her miserable reality. She got here. There are many more things she wanted to explain but her words could only be learned through her eyes…which looked at the library with deep sadness.
When she was too focused on the building. The library's main glass door soon opened and the old man with a big smile stared at Rebecca.
"Good morning, dear!"
Hearing his voice, Rebecca soon get back to her sense and abruptly looked at the old man, he got little dark circles around his eyes. While he looked a little tired, even he was smiling with full force.
After noticing that, Rebecca smiled back and walk towards the door.
"Good morning, Sir."
"You look tired today."
The old man agree with her and said, "Yeah, I got a little fever last night."
Rebecca understands and feels a little bad for him at this age when he needs to relax and enjoy his day without stressing. He is doing this work. He told her, he has a son who lives abroad but will be back soon.
"Sir, you should ask your son to come a little fast. How will you handle this shop alone? You also need rest."
"Yeah, you are right. I got a call from my boy. He is coming next month back. Until then I'm alright and additional where am I alone? you are already here with me, young lady for helping with work and I don't think even my son can handle the shop better than you…haha." He laughed showing all his wrinkles which made him look older.
Rebecca smiled slightly while she felt a little awkward speaking about resigning. She felt bad to leave like that.
The old man noticed something was off with her and soon asked, "Dear, let's go inside. I think you got something to speak about."
Rebecca was a little taken aback by his words and could not help but ask how did he know that she wanted to tell him something.
"Sir, how did you guess that?"
The old man chuckled and explained, "It's all because now I'm old enough to read the young people's body language. My hair did not turn white because of the sun…"
Rebecca felt his words and nodded. As they both walk inside.
Rebecca noticed some customers sitting on the bench and reading some books. They were too busy to notice her or the old man.
Angela walked with him into the cabin.
The old man sat on his small chair and asked her to do the same.
"So, dear, now please feel free to speak."
Rebecca's fingers squeezed together. While she is still awkward speaking.
"Sir, actually…"
"I…I want to…."
The old man felt her hesitation and spoke up.
"Dear, what happened? Just tell me, what do you want to talk about?"
Rebecca pressed her lips tightly. While the old man silently waited for her to continue.
After staying like that for a long time, she finally opened her mouth and spoke out.
"Sir, I want to resign from this job."
She felt too embarrassed to even look in the old man's direction.
She is thinking about how the owner will react. She didn't even work for a month and now suddenly wanted to leave.
However, the old man only nodded, looking a little upset.
"Is that so?"
"I'm sorry. But something happened last night and now my best friend doesn't want me to continue this work."
The old man brows arched.
"Is that related to drunken men out there?"
Rebecca soon nodded, "Yes, one man yesterday night tried to scare me with a knife."
The old man's eyes were enlarged.
"It's never happened before dear, I'm so sorry. You need to go through that. But I'm glad you are safe and sound."
"Sir, I hope you now understand."
"It's absolutely alright, dear. I'll miss your company but it's about your safety. Then there is nothing to think about. I accept your resignation." He flashed a small smile.
Rebecca could not help showing a tiny smile back, "Thank you for understanding, Sir."
"No more sir, young lady. You can now say uncle to me. And even though you don't work here anymore. You are always welcome as a family."
"Thank you, Uncle." Rebecca could not help but smile wider to hear the old man's warm words. It touched her heart.
