Chapter 148: Chapter 148
The owner thought Edwin was going to leave as he already responded to his question. However, Edwin on the other side, peeking at the books beside him on the large table lying in rows.
These are all-new edition books which were delivered a few days ago to the old man's store.
Seeing the owner is a good man. Edwin doesn't want to leave an empty hand. After reading some names of books, he finally chose one and picked up the next second.
He looked at the owner and gave him the book which the old man took.
"I'll take this one. Pack this for me."
The old man looked at the book and then at him with a small smile.
"Sir, you can't purchase this book. As this is a library. You can borrow it for reading. If you want and pay only for rent."
Edwin's forehead lightly creased to hear him. And after a little pause, he moved his one arm to bend and put it inside his jacket pocket to take out an expensive leather purse with a lion symbol.
He takes out the big cash amount from it and forwarded it to the old man.
"Now you can…" the old man had never seen someone like him before. For one book, Edwin is almost paying for his one-week earnings after borrowing lots of books.
However, he shook his head in denial and said, "I can't take this large amount of money young man."
"If you truly like this book. I can give you this as a gift for your generosity to offer so much pay." The old man held Ewin's hand and put the book on his palm gently with a kind smile.
Edwin looked at the old man with little amazement and thought there are still nowadays honest people like him available.
"Thank you, Sir, for your gift. But still, I will not be able to take this without pay. So, please accept this." After saying that, he put the cash on the book table.
The old man looked at him with a little surprise. While Edwin just left the library with a book in his hand.
When he left, the old man's lips curled up as he took the money and looked at the door from where he left.
"What a kind man!" He asserted with a warm smile.
After getting out of the library, Edwin glanced at the book in his hand and then moved to watch around him. When his eyes stopped on the two boys' sights.
The boys were on a bike and just staring at his side as he looked at them…
He glanced at their bikes but for faces, they were both wearing helmets. He guessed they were waiting for someone as one of them looked in the library again and again.
And soon the other boy removed his Helmet and started to talk to another one.
Edwin saw his face and guessed his school or college student.
The next second he thought of going back to his car. He didn't want to stay here for long as the place is out of space for him. His eyes last time followed the boys and then walked back to the same route from where Sam took him here.
"Bro, she's still not come out. What do you think? Is she there or leave already?" The boy on the bike looked at his friend with a deep frown. As they were waiting for Rebecca to walk for a maximum of half an hour but seeing the man come out at last. They both screwed up.
"Don't know dude, why don't we go and check on ourselves." Friend responded.
"Alright, then I'm going." The bike man gets off his bike and moves toward Library.
His friend silently watches him go as his helmet is still on his head.
The boy entered the library while the old man put Edwin's giving money in his drawer.
He heard the noise and looked straight.
"Excuse me, uncle! Is the shop closed already, or can I still borrow the book?"
The old man glanced at the boy as he had never seen him before in his library. He felt he got two new customers in the last hours and felt happy.
He politely answered the boy.
"Young boy, The library is almost closed but as you enter please carry on."
"Thank you, Uncle." The boy responds with a fake smile on his face as his eyes roam around in search of Rebecca.
"Uncle, by the way. Why are you working alone? I mean, I saw a young woman working with you last time." He didn't add that he came here in the afternoon with his friend.
But his words caught the old man's attention as he arched his brows and looked at the boy whose eyes roamed everywhere.
"Excuse me, young boy. I never watched you before. How did you know a lady is working? The old man's eyes filled with doubt.
The boy gulped his saliva as he thought the old man caught his attention. So, he tried to divert the topic.
"I-I just noticed the woman in the afternoon working here when…I was going from this route...that's why I just asked…" He shrugged off as he added, "But never mind."
His hesitation was caught by the old man but still, he nodded to his words.
"Oh, I see." His voice turned grumpy.
"Now you should continue with your book finding as I will close the library after five minutes later." He coldly glanced at a boy.
The boy sensed his sudden changes in behavior and thought staying here was not going to help him more.
"Ohh…if that is the case then you should lock it. I can come next time, don't worry uncle." He tried to look calm but his fear of getting caught didn't hide.
The old man just nodded with an unfriendly expression while the boy soon walked out of the library faster.
"Damn that asshole!" He breathes in relief and utter profanity about him.
"What happened bro? Is she not there?" Watched his friend coming back with an odd expression. He inquired.
The friend looked at the boy and explained, "Dude, I told you. We can watch her daily from far and then try to trap her. Because when I went inside the old man doubted me and changed his gentle tone to sour. And more importantly, I didn't see her there. She should have walked home."
Listening to his friend, the other boy laughed and smirked evilly.
"Bro, don't worry. Today is her good day to leave before we come. But not every time. Don't be afraid of that old man. He can't even walk properly. What can he do even if he knows what we want?
"You are right bro." The other one finally nodded and flashed a smile.
"Then let's go. Today we can go to a bar and enjoy those beauties."
"That's a good idea!"
Both of them left with their bikes.
The old man looked at their bike going from his windows in silence and inhaled in relief.
