Chapter 141: Chapter 141
Rebecca stood in front of the door for a long minute, as she was still hesitant to go and talk with him.
Her hand wanted to knock on the door but her mind made her remember the day when the truth was revealed.
That day she comes to confess her love and her pregnancy truth. She wanted to start a new beginning. However, the 'Revealed Truth' changed her life, and her hope shattered into a million pieces.
When she left that day, she thought she would never come here again and watch Edwin's face again.
However, life never worked as she wished anyways. Not in the past, not so now… Just following its rules, and this bitter reality sting deep inside her chest.
That day she came to confess her love. But today she came to go far from the same love.
This moment made her feel like nothing is permanent. The feelings, the love, that one time she wanted to accept. Now all she feels is hurt and pain to accept it.
After several thoughts, she takes a long breath and lets her hand raise to meet her knuckles to the door.
And knock slowly two times.
She waited for his response which soon came from inside.
"Come In."
Listening to him, she moved her hand to clutch the doorknob and pulled it down the next later.
When the door opened and she entered.
Edwin's eyes widened with stunned as he stood from his chair in a daze.
"Rebecca…"
Even as he stood, he didn't leave his seat. Because he was afraid that if he made a move toward her, she would leave.
Rebecca glanced at him without expression as if nothing was going on in her mind to watch him.
Edwin felt a sting to see her expression but didn't reflect it.
And before he could even ask her what she was doing here?
She shortly walked toward him and pulled out the new envelope from her bag and put it on the table.
And declared, "Good morning, Mr.Hutson. I just came here to send this. I hope now you can accept this. As I come myself."
Edwin's eyes knew very well what she was talking about and what that envelope contained, so, without any questions, he just declared to her, "I'm not going to accept your resignation letter."
"I thought Julia already told you about the company's rules."
Rebecca looked at him with a mixed gaze that can't be readable. But it doesn't hide her disappointment in him.
That one gaze from her was enough to make Edwin feel that he is doing wrong to stop her like this. But does he have a choice?
No, He can't let her leave.
"Yes, and that's why I'm here, Mr.Hutson. I already fulfilled the rule." Rebecca added.
"Not completely," Edwin argued.
Rebecca started to lose her patience.
"Mr.Hutson, what more do you need? I'm already here by myself to send the resignation letter."
"It does not matter, I'll not accept your letter."
Rebecca felt she can't take his words anymore and speak in a harsh tone, "Then what do you want? You want to cage me. Isn't it?"
Edwin doesn't think she will take his words differently.
"It's not like that Rebecca. I just…"
"Just what? Edwin!"
"I had enough of your words. I can't let you make me follow your orders." Her voice filled with anger.
Which made Edwin stand from his chair and finally walked toward her but when he is a few inches far from her, she moves backward to maintain enough distance.
"Rebecca, I just want a second chance. Can you please don't give this big punishment? I can't lose you and my baby like this!" Edwin could not help but speak out in emotion.
However, Rebecca didn't flinch and responded, "Stop your generous words, Edwin, I know, all you want is a baby. You just act to like me, so you can have my child once it's born. But after the truth is revealed, you are just trying to act like a humble man. But I know, you are not like that."
"It's not true…" Edwin shrugged out to hear those words. He never thought she would think like that.
"Yes, it's true. Because if you truly liked me even for a moment, you never tried to use your power to make me come here and not accept my letter. Even when you know, you hurt me to the core. You wanted me to stay with you on the same roof. Aren't this prove is enough?"
Her words hit him hard. As he felt he made a mistake again. He made the wrong choice to stop her like this.
"No, Rebecca. I swear it's not like that. I just…I just can't live without you both…" His eyes turned red.
While Rebecca's eyes also filled with tears but she was trying her best not to let them fall in front of him.
"If it's not like that. Then prove it and let me go…"
Edwin's eyelashes throbbed.
"What?" His voice turned lower as he lost all his energy at this moment.
"Yes, Prove it, and let me go. I can't look at you even for a second, Edwin. Why don't you just let me go?" Her violent words made his heart tighten as his soul shattered to hear her words.
"Do you truly want to?" His voice was almost shaken up.
"Yeah, just let me go."
Edwin looked at her and then at the envelope.
At this moment, he realized, the more he wanted to stop her. The more she wanted to walk away from his life.
But he can't accept this fact. He is not that strong.
"What? You don't want to?" Rebecca's voice is filled with bitterness.
On the other side, Edwin finally made up his mind and looked at her with a heavy gaze.
"Rebecca, if I let you go today. Will you forgive me?"
Rebecca's eyes stopped on his face as she didn't take time to respond, "No."
"Then what if I stop you today?" He changed the question as his eyes looked at her with helpless sight.
"Then I'll hate you more, Edwin. And if you don't want that just approve my resignation. Set me free." Her voice halted for the first time in the whole conversation. As her strength now started to decrease. She can't cover up her emotions any longer.
On the other side, Hearing her words, Edwin fell silent for a long minute before finally declaring his answer.
"Alright, If this is what you want, I'll give you that." Rebecca's heart stopped for a second to hear him.
"I'll set you free from coming here. But you can not stop me from coming behind you and asking for forgiveness. I'm not going to give up on you and our baby. You both my life and I can't live without that…" Rebecca's eyes meet his determined stares for a long second before she retreats her gaze to look another side.
Edwin went to take the envelope in his hand and then turned to her side, "Rebecca, I'm accepting your resignation."
Rebecca looked at his eyes where a single drop of tears just fell to speak those words. Her heart clenched to watch him but she didn't let herself look weak and just turned to walk away from his cabin.
Edwin looked at her gone in silence as he soon fell to his knees feeling too powerless. This time again, he can't do anything and just watch her leave.
