Chapter 54: Chapter 54

Around 2 pm noon, Mo Shan got a call back from Wang Shi. "The test report is out. I am going to Mo Mansion with the report. You directly come there too." Saying that, he hung up.

Mo Shan's expression turned serious at his words. As far as he knew Wang Shi, he would never talk like that if the matter was not serious.

Mo Shan then stood up from his chair, grabbed his suit jacket, and walked out. "I am returning to Mo Mansion. You take care of the things here." Leaving those words behind to Assistant Zhang, Mo Shan drove to his home.

...

At Mo Mansion:

The family members were surprised by Wang Shi's unexpected visit.

"Wang Shi, why are you here at this time? Is something wrong?" Old Master Mo asked.

Without explaining why he was there, Wang Shi directly walked to Old Madam Mo's room. The family members got worried when they realized that something was wrong. They hastily followed him to the room.

Yun Xi also felt a pang in her heart. She glared at Linda and hurriedly followed others. Linda cowered under her gaze.

Just then, Mo Shan arrived too. When he saw that everyone was moving towards Old Madam Mo's room, he too followed them.

Inside the room, Wang Shi changed the saline water pack with a new one that he had brought with him. He just wanted to make sure that it was safe. After that, he started his checkups on Old Madam Mo.

Outside the room, Mother Mo asked, "Mo Shan, even you are here. What happened? Is mother alright?" Everyone then turned to Mo Shan for the answer because they felt that he knew something about the matter.

"Let's wait for Uncle Wang's report first. I will explain everything later." Mo Shan replied.

Old Master Mo started pacing around in nervousness. Just a few months ago, there was some improvement in her health, and he also started to feel hopeful. But now, he was afraid that everything was going to square one.

"Grandpa, don't worry too much. Your health will start deteriorating too." Yun Xi walked to him and grasped his arms so he would not move anymore.

Just then, Wang Shi walked out.

"Wang Shi, is everything alright?" Old Master Mo asked instantly.

"Everything is alright, barely alright. Thanks to your granddaughter-in-law, Uncle Mo. If not for her, something worse could have happened." Wang Shi said, pointing at Yun Xi.

When they heard that everything was alright, everyone heaved a sigh of relief.

"Xiao Xi, what is he saying? What exactly happened?" Mother Mo asked.

Mo Shan interrupted them. "We have been standing here for a while. Let's go down. I will explain everything."

Everyone then followed him to the hall. Mo Shan helped Yun Xi sit on the couch, and then himself sat after that. Others took seats too. "Come on, brother. Just explain quickly." Mo Sheng said.

"First, let's hear what Uncle Wang has to say." Mo Shan pointed at Wang Shi.

Wang Shi took a report out of his bag and handed it to Father Mo. "This morning, I got a call from Mo Shan. He asked me to run a test on Aunt Mo's saline water. This is the report I got."

"What does it mean?" This time, Father Mo shouted at Wang Shi. They have already been kept in suspense for a long time. Even now they were talking in rounds, not coming to the point directly.

Wang Shi glared at his friend for shouting and replied, "Calm down. I am getting there. According to the report, the saline water was mixed with a separated chemical substance called Citael. (P.S.: This is not a real word/ name of the chemical. I just formed it in my mind.)"

He continued, "I am actually surprised that I found this chemical in it. Because the government had banned it years ago because it does more harm than cure."

"What type of harm?" Father Mo asked, not daring to think the consequences of it in his mother's health.

"It induces people into a coma. At first, it was invented as anesthesia, but when it was proved to be harmful, the government had banned it. I don't know how it got here."

This information fell heavily on the family members. Old Master Mo's lips trembled as he asked, "Then, my wife?" he trailed off, not having enough courage to finish the sentence.

"Aunt Mo is fine," Wang Shi began, "As for how, you have to ask your grandson and his wife."

Everyone's attention was now on Mo Shan and Yun Xi. "I changed the bottle," Yun Xi spoke in a low voice.

"But how did you know something was wrong with it?" questioned Mother Mo.

Without giving them a definite answer, Yun Xi looked at Linda who was standing far from them. Under everyone's scrutiny, Linda hastily knelt down on the floor.

"Linda, what are you doing?" Old Master Mo asked, confused by her sudden behavior.

But Mo Sheng quickly caught up with the fact that this whole matter was related to her. "So, it was you who mixed that chemical on my grandmother's IV drips?" he shouted at her.

Linda shivered and started stuttering. "I... Grandpa, please forgive me. I... I did not want to do that. So.. someone threatened m-me."

Old Master Mo was shocked by the revelation. "Y... You," Old Master Mo pointed his shaky fingers at Linda. "You? How dare you do this? To this day, I regarded you as my granddaughter, and you give me this present?"

"Grandpa, calm down." Yun Xi spoke, rubbing his back. "She did a mistake. A huge one. But she was also threatened by them. And I am not supporting her here. When I met her in the kitchen this morning to ask her directly about it, she gave me a note. It read that she mixed something in the saline water. And she did it because her mother was held captured by them, and she was threatened. But I also know that this does not decrease her crime."

After saying this, she faced Linda and said, "Linda, you gave me the note, but too late. What if I didn't change the bottle in time? Even a drop could have endangered grandma's health. Also, since you could inform me through note this time, why did not you do it earlier when you received the threat?"

Linda was already crying hard, sitting on the floor. "I- I wanted to. B- But I was afraid th- that someone was keeping eyes on me, even inside the mansion. So, I could not do that. But this morning, we were alone in the kitchen. S-So, I got the chance to hand you the note."

"Who? Who threatened you to do this?" Father Mo spoke angrily. He was clearly trying to control his anger right now. He was angrier at himself because even as a son, he could not protect his mother properly.

"I don't know. That man appeared suddenly and disappeared the same way." Linda replied.

This time, Mo Shan spoke. "Inform every detail you know to my men. As for your mom, she is safe now. Xiao Xi had messaged me earlier about it. I sent some of my men there to protect your mom. After giving the details, you can leave with your mom abroad."

There was no way they would let her continue saying there after all this. Linda also knew that it was the best outcome. If something had happened to Old Madam Mo, then she would not be alive.

...

Old Master Mo sighed after listening to everything that happened.

"I had promised myself that I would never let anything happen to her after she got shock. But I could not protect her properly even after all these years."

"Grandpa, what are you saying? We all know how much you love and care for grandma. Don't say these things." Yun Xi reprimanded him.

"Xiao Xi, thank you." Old Master Mo grasped her hands in his, "If not for your smart move, I don't know what would have happened. You not only save my wife's life but also mine."

"We are a family, Grandpa." Yun Xi said, patting his hand. She knew that from now on, Old Master Mo would never believe outsiders to look after his wife.

"Okay, many things have happened today. Everyone, go to their respective rooms and rest for a while." Mo Shan announced. Saying that, he took Yun Xi's hand and brought her away from the solemn atmosphere.

"Tsk, wife protective devil." Mo Sheng whispered under his breath.
