Chapter 59: Chapter 59

Chapter 57

I didn't say anything to Alpha Greyson all day, despite his attempts to approach me. I can't talk to him. Every time I see him, my chest tightens and becomes heavier. I love him and am terrified that I may destroy myself because of my feelings for him. With each passing hour, my understanding of Alpha Greyson's cause grew wider and I was afraid of it.

I'm scared I'll forgive him too quickly and ignore Mrs. Clea's plight. According to Alpha Greyson's earlier statement, he only wished to shield me from people who would think negatively of me. I know that the entire kingdom is important to him, and his subjects are wary of our future children. I know everything that is important to him. Also... This is not his only problem.

We must not lose sight of the fact that we still have a problem with Dylan... I'm sure even Alpha Greyson is unsure of what to do initially. That is why I will save Mrs. Clea in my own unique way. I will not allow all of Beta Miguel's terrible schemes to be carried out.

That's why I woke up in the middle of the night. I initially checked to see if Alpha Greyson was likewise fast sleeping. I asked Rose and Kylie to help me in escaping. I need to speak with Mrs. Clea. And this is the only option. I was able to flee the guards with the help of Kylie and Rose. They move their focus away from me so that they don't notice me. As I walk out of the palace, I am dressed in a dark cloak. I emerged from behind the palace and made my way to the basement, where the prisoners were held.

I bribed the guard, and he agreed to let me in right away. The acrid fragrance hit me as soon as I walked in. I stroll with my nose closed. Every prison cell has detainees that I can see. The majority of them appeared grimy and ill. Many of them were injured as well. I know it's because they were made to work for the palace as punishment for their crimes.

Those who commit terrible offenses or commit treason against the kingdom shall be sentenced to death. Mrs. Clea is alone in a cell, which astounded me. She was dozing off. I felt bad about her appearance. Her once-clean housekeeping uniform was now soiled and bloodied. When I realized that she had been tortured for the past few hours based on her confession, tears welled up in my eyes.

"Mrs. Clea..." I murmured in a low voice. She heard it fast and was shocked to see me. I lowered my cloak so she could see me better. She swiftly crawled towards me. I slipped my arm over the barrier and caressed her injured cheek, evidently from slapping her repeatedly.

I sobbed quietly as I watched her. "I'm... sorry..." I sobbed. She took my hand in her and gently caressed it. While clutching my delicate hand, I noticed the dirt on her hand.

"I-I'm fine... don't cry, your Majesty," she stammered. I shook my head and cried some more. "All of this is my fault. I put your life at risk..." I trembled. She patted my hand and shook her head at what I said. "If I had the chance to turn back time and time again, Your Majesty, I wouldn't change anything about everything that happened. I will serve you with all my heart..." she said weakly. My heart was broken a while ago but I never thought it would break something more.

"I promise I'll get you out of here... I won't let you go—"

"Please, Luna Amara... don't," she murmured, shaking her head in protest. My lips were parted. She does not want me to help her? But, why?

"W-What do you mean?" I was confused.

"W-While... I was being tortured earlier... Elder Mateo... told me that if I let you help me escape... you will be even more harmed... as well as Alpha Greyson..." her voice quivered. My lips were parted.

"They will make it appear and set you up that you are the one who help me escape, and they will use as proof what happened earlier when you protected me from them, and the Alpha King will be dragged into this, and both of you will be in more danger, and if that happens... Dylan will have a better chance to kill you both."

"Then... Please tell me! I want to protect you! I want to help you! Tell me how!" I nearly begged her. She made a shaky motion with her head. "There is no other way, Luna Amara... all I ask is that you protect the Alpha King and the child you are carrying..."

"Why... why do you want me to protect Alpha Greyson? He never believes me... he never... trusts me!”

Mrs. Clea's small smile surprised me, although it was tinged with grief.

"You are mistaken, Your Highness... he believes in you. He has faith in you. He told me before you came to see me here today that he would make a way to help me escape, but as I told you, I rejected his offer..." I was taken aback by what she said. Is this true?

She grips me even more tightly. "The Alpha King loves you more than anything, your Majesty, and you're here today because he expects you to. He told me earlier that you might visit me, so I thought he might help you get inside," she continued.

"But... I came here alone... he was asleep when I left our room," I mumbled. She chuckled slightly. "Then... he didn't tell you about his help," she pointed out. My lips were parted. Another tear welled up in my eye. I didn't remember having any difficulty leaving. Yes, Kylie and Rose helped me, but nothing would have been easy if Alpha Greyson hadn't stepped in. Then... Did he pretend to be sleeping before I left? Was he even awake?

Mrs. Clea took my two hands and I stopped thinking. I locked my gaze on her.

"I believe... your majesty, you will get through this. Always be strong and continue to fill your heart with love. You will continue to defend those you care about. Don't lose hope because I believe... in the end you will also find true happiness..." her tears fall, the blood and tears almost mixed on her face. I closed my eyes tightly. I can't bear to hear everything she says but I can't help but listen to her either.

"It was nice meeting you... and I want to thank Vikki for... trusting me... to take care of you," she said quietly. She slowly lowered my hand, as if she was going to let me go from now on. I stood up. I can't bear the thought of her moving away from me. She's a good friend, like Shena, and all I do is let them down. I can't do this anymore. How many more people am I going to lose? Why do they continually leave me? Why?

"I'm just here, Your Majesty, and I can say that I was happy... so thank you very much for everything..." she said quietly before a prison guard approached me and told me it was time to leave. My feelings are very heavy. I straightened up and noticed Mrs. Clea staring at me.

"I'm tired of seeing people I care about leave me..." my voice broke, but I still smiled at the end. "I'll do everything... to save you, Mrs. Clea.” I said like it was a promise.
