Chapter 58: Chapter 58
Chapter 56
When Alpha Greyson came up and silently joined Elder Mateo, my heart skipped a beat. I'm unable to speak. What's happening? Mrs. Clea spread the rumors about me? My chest constricted. Mrs. Clea can't do that! I know this is a setup!
I instantly sprang up, but Kylie and Rose approached me and said, "Luna Amara, you need to rest. You can't get up yet," Kylie said, I shook my head. "I need to go out," I insisted, standing up and hastily leaving the room. The guards were startled when I left the room, but they couldn't stop me when I ran away to the housekeeper's hall.
"You also have the audacity to spread false accusations against Queen Luna, Mrs. Clea," Elder Mateo stated harshly as Mrs. Clea knelt in front of them all. Behind her were two guards aiming long swords at her. My knees shook at the sight. It's like ripping my heart open.
"That's not true! I was not the one who spread the false accusations against Luna Amara!" exclaimed Mrs. Clea. I turned to Alpha Greyson, who was staring at the kneeling Mrs. Clea emotionlessly. Does he believe Mrs. Clea?
"Not you? Then how do you explain you leaving the palace the other day? Didn't you go out of the palace to spread rumors against Queen Luna both outside and inside the palace?" Elder Mateo asked. My head shook. In that case... Beta Miguel and Elder Mateo may already be aware that Mrs. Clea went to the North Pack to investigate Beta Miguel, and they are using this information to put pressure on Mrs. Clea for a transgression she did not commit!
"Like I said, I went out of the palace the other day to buy—"
"And where did you shop? In the North Pack?” Elder Mateo asked evilly. I can see the shock on the face of Mrs. Clea. I didn't hesitate to approach. Running quickly to Mrs. Clea and barricaded myself against the guards who pointed the sword at Mrs. Clea. Everyone was surprised. Almost all the servants in the palace are here in the commotion and seem curious about what is happening. Everyone gasped at my sudden arrival. The two guards retreated away from Mrs. Clea. Elder Mateo was also surprised by my arrival. Alpha Greyson and I met our eyes. His eyes widened when he saw me.
"Mrs. Clea has nothing to do with the accusations leveled against me, Elder Mateo," I stated unequivocally.
"Luna Amara..." I heard Mrs. Clea say, her voice cracking, and Elder Mateo quickly recovered from his shock.
"Queen Luna, you better rest in your room and let us investigate the false accusations leveled against you," he replied, shaking his head. "Then why are you investigating her? Mrs. Clea has nothing to do with it, I know so let her go," I insisted.
"Amara..." I was taken aback when Alpha Greyson called my name. When he approached me, my jaw dropped. We both exchanged glances. I couldn't help but feel pain when I saw his frigid eyes looking at me again.
"Let us do this thing. You're pregnant, you shouldn't meddle with this..." his voice was gentle yet icy, and tears welled up in my eyes. Will he not believe it? Does he not believe me?
"Don't you trust me?" I asked. Everyone heard it. I heard murmurs and whispers, but I ignored them all and focused on Alpha Greyson's eyes. His jaw tensed. He took my arms. "I trust you—"
"Then... do you believe me when I say Mrs. Clea knows nothing about the rumors about me?" I almost urged him to answer that question, begging him to believe me.
"Why are you protecting her?" His tone became chilly, and I closed my eyes tightly; when I opened them, I saw his eyes were blank; my feelings are full of bitterness; this is what Beta Miguel wants to happen, and I can't believe that all of his terrible intentions are being carried out!
"Because she's my friend—"
"Or maybe you just don't want us to know the truth, Your Highness? So, you're protecting her?" Elder Mateo's crotch. I glanced at him. I know his state of mind is already celebratory because of the visible argument between Alpha Greyson and myself.
"What truth? That I am involved with Beta Miguel? That the child I am bringing is Beta Miguel's child?" I shifted my gaze to Alpha Greyson and was even more hurt by the coldness with which he looked at me; it feels like it was ripping into my bones and heart.
"Why... don't you ask Beta Miguel? He knows the truth! Our relationship never reached that point! I consider him just a friend! And if you suspect that Alpha Greyson is not the father of the child I'm carrying, do you think Alpha Greyson won't know that?"
"Then... why are you protecting this girl?" questioned Elder Mateo. I cast a peek at Alpha Greyson. Is it really like that? Will he not find a way to fight for me as well? Does he really not trust me? I thought… he loved me? Damn it!
I'm unable to speak. Mrs. Clea caught my gaze. Her eyes were moist. I felt terrible. I roped her into it. It's entirely my fault that this is happening to her.
"Your Highness... it's okay. I promise I can handle this..." She wept as she clutched my arms. I shook my head as tears streamed down my cheeks.
"Leave us here, your Majesty..." replied Elder Mateo. When the guards eventually took Mrs. Clea and dragged her out of the housekeeping hall to arrest her, I closed my eyes firmly. I did nothing but watch. I want to share the truth, everything I know, but what if Alpha Greyson, like now, don’t trust me?
It hurt since it was the second time, I had seen a friend taken away from me. I was always hurting my friends. I always just destroy them. And the cause is always the same... and it's because I'm madly in love with Alpha Greyson.
When I returned to the room, I clenched my teeth. Kylie and Rose had worried faces on me when I saw them inside. When they saw the person next to me enter the room, they instantly bowed and exited. Because of my rage, I can feel my emotions pouring.
I confronted Alpha Greyson, who was now removing his imperial cape.
"I know you're capable of doing something. Let her go, Alpha Greyson." I suppress the rage that wells up within me.
"She should be investigated—"
"I told you she's innocent!" I can't help but raise a tone. He came to a halt and looked at me. He got so close to me that I had to back away. I can't let him near me now that I'm angry. I'm at a loss on what to do now that I'm enraged.
"Why don't you believe me?" I asked, my voice trembling. "Do you believe Elder Mateo more? Or Beta Miguel?" my voice trembled more, and he exhaled deeply. "The... rumors have spread throughout the kingdom, Amara. I don't know who really spread that thing, but everyone believes that you are the one who... attracted Beta Miguel, so all this is happening. If the perpetrator of all this cannot be found, I am afraid that you will be hurt even more, especially our child..." he explained.
"Is that... why you let them take her to cover up all the rumors that are spreading? To protect me and our child, am I right?" my voice quivered. He nodded and took a step toward me. His eyes were previously idle but now he was begging with me. My heart was breaking even more. I can't believe this is actually happening.
"A week from now, Beta Miguel will leave the palace until the rumors subside... I promise... all this will end..." he whispered quietly as he clasped my hand in his, but I quickly removed my hand from his grip. I locked my gaze on him. I simply cannot accept his answer. I simply cannot. I can't accept that his kingdom's standpoint is more important to him than what I feel.
"I can't accept all of this Alpha Greyson..." my tears flowed and I turned away from him at the same time as my heart was completely torn apart.
