Chapter 51: Chapter 51
Chapter 49
Because of my growing mistrust of Beta Miguel, I paid Mrs. Clea a secret visit to her office. Alpha Greyson was preoccupied, so I begged Rose and Kylie to assist me in escaping from my guards. I'll make sure that it will be quick and before Alpha Greyson knew I wasn't in the library I was sure to be there.
“Your Majesty!” Mrs. Clea was surprised by my abrupt entrance. I walked to her and shut her doors.
"I have a favor to ask of you, Mrs. Clea," I began. She rose and approached me.
"What is it, your Majesty?" she inquired, concerned.
"I want you to go to the North Pack and talk to an Elder there about their Pack members, both past and present," I stated. Her brows came together. "And... I also want you to find old books about North Pack's history... especially about its members... every detail of it," I added.
"Could you please tell me what this is for, Your Highness?" she asked, surprised. I inhaled deeply. "I have a feeling Beta Miguel is Dylan's son," I remarked, and her jaw dropped.
"But I can't prove that until there are documents proving Beta Miguel grew up as an orphan in North Pack, which is why I want you to go there and investigate, and if possible, visit the orphanage where Beta Miguel is said to have come from," I stated one after the other. Mrs. Clea was unable to talk. Maybe she's still shocked by what she discovered.
I took her hands in mine. She gave me a glance. I realize I'm asking her for a vital favor. She can be harmed, but if not her, I have no one else to turn to.
"I know it's risky, and I understand if you refuse; by the time Beta Miguel discovers that I'm investigating him, and if he's the traitor, we'll both be in danger... but I can't just sit and wait for what might happen," my chest felt heavy after saying that. I'm at a loss for what to do. Everything is becoming more complex.
"I will do anything for you, your Majesty," she said fervently. Something pricked my heart. I embraced her tightly. Mrs. Clea has done a lot for me. Without her, I'd most likely still be lost on the North Snow Kingdom’s Road, alone and without a destination.
"Thank you so much... Mrs. Clea," I whispered. She broke away from the hug and smiled sweetly at me. She told me she was leaving tonight to buy spices in the large market of the North Snow Kingdom. That's why I was so nervous when the night came. Alpha Greyson was fast asleep next to me while I still couldn't sleep.
When I awoke the next morning, Alpha Greyson was no longer by my side. Alpha Greyson, according to Kylie, awoke early because there was a meeting in the conference hall. I rapidly made plans because I was interested in the discussion. I merely strolled by the conference hall after eating breakfast, hoping to hear something from what they were discussing.
"What are you doing here, your Majesty?" I nearly jumped when Elder Mateo appeared in front of me. I took a deep breath and drew back slightly. I should use caution in my actions. I remembered what Alpha Greyson had said to me. Even though I suspect Beta Miguel, I should not rule out the possibility of Elder Mateo's connection with Dylan.
"I was just… waiting for Alpha Greyson to finish," I said. I saw how his eyes surveyed me. "You shouldn't have to stroll around here especially since you're pregnant with an heir. You should be more careful," he reminded me before entering the conference hall. I agreed by nodding. I almost forgot that Elder Mateo dislike me as Queen Luna due to my Rema's blood features. Perhaps they will hate me more, especially if they discover that I am descended from the Evans family. That I am the long-lost princess of Rema.
Because I couldn't hear what was being said inside no matter what I did, I just left. But I'm still antsy. I'm very concerned. Mrs. Clea's travel to North Pack, as well as Alpha Greyson's meeting at the conference hall.
I went back and forth within the library, biting my bottom lip. When Alpha Greyson walked in, I looked up at the door. As soon as he approached, he hugged me.
"Elder Mateo said you were waiting for me outside the conference hall earlier?" he stated, hugging me. I stepped back from his embrace and stared at him closely.
"Yes... how about the meeting? How is it?" I inquired, taking a seat and pulling me onto his lap. I was so concentrated on his response that I didn't realize our closeness.
"It went fine," he answered quickly, drawing my brows together. "What was the meeting for earlier?" I will ask, he held my jaw. He stared at my eyes.
"You're pregnant. You should take a break. You should avoid any potential stress, Amara," he said. He was right, but I couldn't help but feel down. I'm sure I can do it. I know my body better, and I will not abuse it because I understand that I should not only think about myself. I'm carrying a child, and it's our child.
"But... I know myself; if it's too much, I'll say so." I try. He inhaled deeply. I kissed him on the lips. I could feel him stiffen. I nipped his lower lip to intensify the kiss. I noticed his blue eyes were wide open as I got away.
"You really know how to wrap me around your fingers, huh?" he said, his voice hoarse. As I licked my lips, my cheeks reddened. His lips were so delicious against mine!
"Please?" I asked, making a puppy face. In defeat, he sighed. "Fine... the meeting is just for our preparation if Dylan and his Rogues ever attack the kingdom," he explained. My stray hair was tucked behind my ear by him. "Rogues attacked a pack in Rema Kingdom, we heard news about it so... there's a chance the Rogues will attack us as well," he added.
Rogues attack a pack in the Rema Kingdom? I clenched my teeth.
"I need to plan the preparation carefully... I don't want you and our baby to be in danger," he said quietly. My heart is pounding. Tears welled up inside my eyes.
"For the time being, the search for Dylan will be halted, and we will instead focus on preparing the kingdom for a possible attack," he added. I nodded because I believe that is the appropriate thing to do at this moment. We can't afford to lose any more men right now. If all of the palace staff is present to guard the entire kingdom, the preparations will be steadier and more orderly.
"I'm going to end it all, Amara," he said, pressing his forehead against mine. Gentleness screamed from his gaze. "I want our child to live without the danger of Dylan, so... I'm gonna end it all," he mumbled even more.
