Chapter 31: Chapter 31
Chapter 29
Alpha Greyson didn't sleep in our room. And I'm not sure why I'm concerned that he didn't sleep here tonight. I have no idea how many hours I slept that night. The next morning, I ate breakfast quietly with Alpha Greyson. I couldn't help but notice him.
He looks fine. He seems to have slept well last night. Where did he sleep? I shook my head. I shouldn't be thinking about it. What if he slept elsewhere? We are married, nevertheless, our feelings are not the same. So, no matter what, I have no right to ask him.
When Alpha Greyson said, "We have a schedule later after lunch," I was taken aback. I fixed my gaze on him.
"Shall we leave the palace?" I'll ask. I can't stop myself from becoming excited. It's been a long time since I left the palace. This is when I ran away from the palace and was apprehended by Alpha Greyson at the restaurant!
"Why are you so excited?" he asked, raising his brows to meet mine. I remained silent and turned away. Is it wrong to feel ecstatic? Is it forbidden for a queen to be excited?
"N-Nothing," I explained.
"We're not leaving to go play, Amara," he stated flatly. I simply nodded. I just stayed in the library after breakfast. I'm also bored and have nothing else to do than read. At the very least, I can read.
"May I ask you a question, your Majesty?" Rose requested sweetly. I fixed my gaze on her. As usual, Kylie and Rose are with me. They are now sitting in front of me, looking at a book because, unlike me, they are unable to read.
"What is it?" I'll wonder.
"How did you learn to read, I heard you used to be a housekeeper?" Rose asked, a little embarrassed. I also thought about what she said. How many times have I been asked about that? Shena was the first to ask that. She was taken aback because I could read. Alpha Greyson comes in second. He even called my identification into question. He implied that I was a spy or someone from the Rema kingdom.
"I had no idea; I thought it was normal to know this," I couldn't help but admit.
"Does that mean you don't even know how you learned?" Kylie asked, surprised. I focused my attention on the words printed in the book. I can read with ease. How did I learn to read? Who actually taught me?
I can't recall anything. I remember my father and mother. I shut my eyes tightly. Why did I see a different image in my mind? I recognize my father and mother! They are just ordinary villagers in the North Snow kingdom! I don't recall their names, but I do recall their faces! I forced a strong swallow.
"Are you all right, your Majesty?" Rose asked, concerned. I tried to calm myself down by smiling and nodding.
What exactly is it? What is going on with me? The image I saw was different. In my thoughts, I saw a man in his forties. The way he dressed makes him appear elegant and wealthy. He's even dressed like a prince.
I shook my head and kept reading. When lunch came, Kylie and Rose quickly fixed me up. I'm dressed in an overdress with gorgeous brocade embroidery on both sides of the lacing. It has a drawstring closure at the neckline and sleeves, as well as a front lace-up, shoulder ties, and back laces.
I finish by letting my hair down. When we reached the palace's entrance, we saw the carriage waiting for us. I went inside first and Alpha Greyson followed me by my side.
"Where's Beta Miguel?" I asked, noting the absence of his right hand.
"He's doing something," he said while staring out the window. I can't take my eyes off him.
"Why are you asking about him?" I was taken aback when he turned to face me. I instantly averted my gaze. Did he notice I was staring at him?!
"I just noticed he just left from your side," I explained. I overheard him hissing. Why is he so easily irritated with me? Aside from our first encounter, I didn't do anything wrong, ah?!
I took a deep breath and tried to have a proper conversation with him.
"Where are we going?" I'll wonder. His gaze has returned to the outside of the window, allowing me to return my gaze.
"South White Pack," he replied, astounded me.
"Are we going to the place where the Rogues attacked?" I'll ask. When he turned to face me, he grimaced. Did I offend him with what I said?!
"Why? Are you chickening out?" I could feel his mockery, so I pouted and turned away. Why does he always have negative thoughts about me?
"No... In fact, I'd like to go there as well. I'm worried about them," I murmured, recalling our conversation the day before, and looking back at him, I swallowed hard when I saw his eyes still looking at me.
"D-Do you... still intend to have a bait from—"
"No," he answered, causing me to pause. Did I hear correctly?!
“R-Really?!" I can't contain my excitement. He averted his gaze. He was staring out the window once more.
"I found a better idea," he explained. I can't stop smiling. I'm sure there are more! And I didn't expect Alpha Greyson to devise a new strategy right away!
Wait... Does this imply that he did not sleep in our room because he was up all night devising another plan?
"I-Is that why you... didn't come to our room last night?" I can't stop myself from wondering. He didn't respond. He simply kept silent. Then... he's not all that cruel. In that case… at least there is something right about knowing him back then when he was just a prince.
"Thank you..." I said softly. His gaze was drawn to mine. We both exchanged glances. His blue eyes suffocate me, but something compels me to keep staring at him.
"I didn't do it because you told me to. I did it for my people," he clarified. I flashed him a nice smile and nodded. I know. I don't believe he changed his mind because I said this because I know his constituents' welfare is more important to him. I'm sure he treasures his kingdom.
"You are a great king, Alpha Greyson," I told him. I waited for his response, but his eyes went blank. That is something I anticipate happening again. I haven't observed any other reaction in his eyes at least once. I'd like to know how I can bring out his suppressed emotions. Or maybe it's not truly concealed at all; his feelings are just there inside him, but he's afraid to expose them to anyone, including me.
When we arrived at the South White Pack, we were greeted cordially by the members of the pack, particularly the Alpha of the South White Pack.
"It's a pleasure to welcome you, Alpha King Greyson," Alpha Carl bowed to Alpha Greyson.
"We greet you, Alpha King Greyson, Queen Luna Amara!" Other people greeted me at the same moment. They were so nice to us that I couldn't stop smiling. Especially the kids, since they gave me flowers. I can't help but smile and thank Alpha Greyson for bringing me here!
"I'm glad everything is fine with you and the people," Alpha Greyson stated.
"Thank you for visiting us, your Majesty. There were no serious injuries, and no one was hurt. The Rogues simply attacked us and were quickly repelled by my wolves. It's just that the fear in everyone's heart, especially the children, hasn't gone away," remarked Alpha Carl.
I looked at the children, and I know that even though they are smiling at me now, there is terror in their hearts.
"Don't worry, I'll send people here to keep an eye on things, and I'll repair the gate at the end of the forest; the time will come when we'll be free of the Rogues," Alpha Greyson said, relieving Alpha Carl.
The meeting went on. I was left in a tent with the Elder in this pack. She's an elderly lady who appears strict but friendly.
"It is a pleasure to meet you, Queen Luna Amara," the old woman said. I cracked a smile.
"My name is Elder Agnes, I am Alpha Carl's advisor." She introduced herself.
"Perhaps what happened was difficult for you," I speculated.
"You're right. Many people were affected, but the important thing was that no one was hurt. It's great that Alpha Carl is here to take on all of the responsibilities," Elder Agnes stated. My brows furrowed in response to what she said.
"What do you mean?" I'll ask.
"Alpha Carl is not a descendant of the Alpha clans, your Majesty," she said, handing me a glass of water before proceeding. "His dad was a Beta. So, when the previous Alpha died and his heir fled, we lost someone who will sit in the position of Alpha of this Pack. That's why everyone decided to make Alpha Carl an Alpha, especially since he is the son of a former Beta who is close to the former Alpha," she explained.
The old Alpha died, and his son fled? I had no idea that this land had been through so much.
"What happened to the former Alpha, Elder Agnes?" I sought out, and she took a long breath.
"He was killed by a bandit from the Rema kingdom, your Majesty," she revealed. I made a blink. In that case, a Rema kingdom resident assassinated the former Alpha of the South White Pack.
"Where is the son of the former Alpha?" I'll ask.
"Since then, no one knows where he is. His name was Dylan. He was a good son and perfect for the throne of being the Alpha of the South White Pack. I also know that Alpha King Greyson's father, Alpha King Erick, is Dylan's friend. He may not have accepted his father's death, especially when he begged Alpha King Erick to help him,"
I can't help but sympathize with Dylan. However, Alpha Greyson's father is his closest friend. Why didn't Alpha King Erick come to his aid?
"Why didn't Alpha Erick help him?" I ask. The old woman's expression was sad.
"Back then, there was peace between Rema and the North Snow kingdom. The two kingdoms are close friends. Nothing can match the peace that these two have. That's why, in order to avoid trouble between Rema and North Snow, Alpha Erick has also chosen to remain silent,"
"But... that's not right! Perhaps Dylan left because that's how it happened!" I couldn't stop myself. She gave me a warm smile.
"But in those days, Your Majesty, that was the best decision. Additionally, Alpha Erick is a close friend of the prince of the Rema kingdom, as he is the younger brother of Rema's Alpha king. Actually, they are three friends... Alpha king Erick of North Snow kingdom, Dylan the son of South White Pack's Alpha, and Prince Henry... the Prince of Rema kingdom, younger brother of Rema's Alpha king."
