Chapter 30: Chapter 30
Chapter 28
When I awoke the next morning, Alpha Greyson was gone. Kylie and Rose informed me that the Alpha king had left early for a meeting with authorities at the palace. While Kylie and Rose assisted me in getting ready, I continued thinking.
Then perhaps all of the Omegas are present in the palace? Is it feasible for me to see the old man who took Shena?
That's why, after getting dressed and eating breakfast, I couldn't resist coming to the conference hall where the discussion between the Alpha king and the officials was taking place.
"Your Majesty, what are we doing here?" Rose inquired. Kylie and Rose are on my side. They always follow me, which I understand because it is their job to keep an eye on me.
"What time does the meeting end?" I inquired, peering through the conference room's closed door. There were two guards stationed there, making it impossible for me to enter. I also don't want to cause any more problems. If I went in there, Alpha Greyson would be furious with me.
"The meeting usually ends after five hours," Kylie explained. I looked at both of them. 5 hours?!? Why is it taking so long?!
“That long?" I inquired, surprised. Both of them nodded at the same time. I simply held my breath. So, I'll be here for five hours? I don't have any other choice. That's why, despite my boredom, I stayed with Kylie and Rose for the following few hours. I had a talk with the two while we were waiting.
They are from the Eastern North Pack, I discovered. They were slaves there, but they were sold to a Delta who was generous enough to send them here to serve at the palace. I discovered that they were already together when they were little. That's why I can't quit picturing myself and Shena when we were together.
"I have a friend, and we're just like you two," I stated.
"Then... where is your friend, Your Highness?" Kylie inquired. While remembering Shena's face, I felt melancholy. It's been almost three years since I last saw her. I'm curious about how she looks now.
"Unfortunately, she was taken from me by a bad person. But I'm not going to give up until I locate her. I know we'll meet one day," I stated confidently. Kylie and Rose nodded at the same time, and I smiled. Good thing Kylie and Rose are here, I suddenly miss Yna and Gina.
"Your Majesty! The meeting has over!" What Rose said startled me. Rose was right! I swiftly turned to the meeting room! The meeting was over. That's why we swiftly concealed behind the wall and peered through the wall to observe everyone who came out of that room.
To discover the old man, I heightened my sense of smell and vision. I'm sure if he were here now, I'd remember him and track him down. I also recall the strong smell of that old man.
Something immediately obscured our vision as the three of us gazed behind the wall.
"What are you doing here?" I couldn't believe it when I heard Alpha Greyson's voice! Kylie and Rose swiftly bowed as I stood up straight.
"I-I was just... walking around," I stammered. Alpha Greyson cocked his brow. The presence of Alpha Greyson is odd. He was still really attractive in the morning. He just became more muscular as a result of his regal attire. I cast a glance behind him at Beta Miguel. He was quiet and just waiting for Alpha Greyson's word.
"Walking around? But I spotted you sneaking around," Alpha Greyson stated, which made me anxious, of course... he caught me peeking. Speaking of sneaking around... shit!
I disregarded Alpha Greyson and peered around the conference room. Damn! There's no one here now! Because of Alpha Greyson's presence, I had lost track of the smell and appearance of the officers that emerged from the conference room!
"Do not turn around while I am speaking to you!" Alpha Greyson's angry voice almost made me jump, so I took a big breath, addressed him, and apologized.
"I'm sorry... I'm just walking, and we decided to play a little, which is why you saw us in that manner," I explained.
"Play? Amara Brooks, remember that you are the Queen Luna of this kingdom, and any inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated," he remarked sternly before leaving to depart. I moaned deeply and bit my lower lip. That I am aware of. He didn't need to remind me.
Kylie and Rose said, "Are you okay, your Majesty?" I just nodded and went to the palace library. After all, I need to research about the palace. I spent a few hours in the library while Kylie and Rose kept an eye on me.
I had just finished reading when the library door abruptly opened and Beta Miguel walked in.
"Beta Miguel!" I greet him. He gave me a respectful smile and bowed. I'm not sure, but I'm glad to see Beta Miguel. When compared to Alpha Greyson, Beta Miguel is friendlier and more approachable.
"Your Majesty, you must now prepare for dinner," he said. I stood up and nodded. I accompanied him out of the library.
"May I ask why there was such a lengthy meeting earlier?" I'll ask. He couldn't speak right away. Perhaps it's tough to express the explanation, especially since I'm not part of the meeting there.
"But... don't worry, you can just ignore my question," I responded promptly. Kylie and Rose followed us softly.
"A Rogue has entered again, but this time at the gate of the South White Pack," Beta Miguel remarked.
I pondered what he said. I recalled what I'd heard about Gina. When the Rogues invaded the Western Blue Pack, numerous troops were killed as bait to catch all of the Rogues. I recall a woman pleading with the Alpha king to stop what he was planning. I can't even fathom what Alpha Greyson is capable of. Will what occurred to the Western Blue Pack happen to the South White Pack again?
"Then... what is the Alpha king's plan?" I sought out, a little anxiously.
"He despises rogues, your Majesty, so... perhaps he'll go to any length to eliminate them all," he replied. I got shivers from what he said and the prospect of the Alpha King sacrificing a life again to fight the Rogues!
I'm not sure why he's doing this to his people! I know he's acting in the best interests of everyone, but there are other ways to eliminate the Rogues! All of this is not fair to the werewolves under his command!
That's why I couldn't take my eyes off Alpha Greyson at dinner. Gina and Yna were even standing there as housekeepers. I smiled at them both, and they both smiled back.
The entire supper was quiet. But after we were done, I purposefully followed him to speak to him. I know he'll be annoyed, but I won't be able to sleep tonight if I don't tell him.
I noticed him walking to his office with Beta Miguel. That's why I went there as well. Alpha Greyson and I locked gazes right away.
"What exactly are you doing here?" he asked. I swallowed hard and turned to face Beta Miguel. "Can you please leave us first?" I asked. "Much obliged, your Majesty," Beta Miguel swiftly replied. I also noticed Kylie and Rose. They quickly understood what I intended to happen; therefore, they followed Beta Miguel.
I'm much more concerned now that Alpha Greyson and I are the only ones here. But I know I can do it.
"What?" he asked, angrily. I swallowed hard and began. "I heard... some Rogues have attacked again..." As he heard what I stated, his brow wrinkled swiftly. I've only recently discovered that he dislikes what I say.
"How did you know about it?" he asked harshly. I bit my lower lip. I can't say Beta Miguel informed me!
He smirked. "Is that why you were there earlier in the conference hall?"
I couldn't say anything. I'd rather have him believe that than find out about Beta Miguel.
"I... just want to... say... I beg you not to... sacrifice more lives to fight Rogues. I know you despised them. That I am aware of... You want to kill them all, but please... Stop wasting any more life. There must be more ways to get them out of the kingdom!" I pleaded.
I fixed my gaze on him. When I saw his steely eyes, chills ran down my spine. His eyes were blank but I could clearly tell that he didn't like what I did.
"Do you even know what you're talking about?" he interrogated.
"I just want to protect... your people," I declared. He chuckled without a sense of humor.
"Why? Do you think they'll be happy that you're helping them?" I was taken aback by what he said. "In a battle, Amara, the sacrifice of life cannot be avoided, so blood is always the substitute," he added.
"B-But... we could... ask the Rogues—"
"You mean we'll beg them to leave?" he chuckled, a chuckle that I knew mocked my words. "I'm not sure if you're innocent or stupid, but wolves like Rogues kill for no reason, so do you really think begging will stop them?" he asked, shaking his head.
"But don't you think about the loved ones of the werewolves you send into battle to bait the Rogues? They are the ones who suffer!"
"Have you ever considered that if I let the Rogues invade my kingdom, they might end up being among those killed by the Rogues?" What he said stunned me.
I'm not sure if I'm completely wrong or just plain stupid. Alpha Greyson is right. I know he has a valid point. But I can't bear the thought of someone dying for the sake of the peace that everyone desires.
"You were correct, Amara. It is my priority to protect my people, and this is my way of doing so. I will do everything in my power to keep this kingdom. I will never fail again. I will not lose someone again just because of a Rogue," Alpha Greyson stated passionately.
I was speechless until Beta Miguel reappeared. I discreetly exited and spaced out while showering in the bathroom.
But as I reflect on what he said last, I am disturbed. He told me that he would never lose someone again because of a Rogue. Then… the reason why he hates the Rogues is that they are in arrears with the Alpha king. So, who is that someone?
