Chapter 24: Chapter 24
Chapter 22
I was careful with every mouthful of food I put into my mouth, and I tried not to make any noise because Alpha Greyson was now having dinner with me. I can feel Yna and Gina's eyes on me, but all I can do is stay in my seat. I know this is a big deal for Yna and Gina.
Who'd have guessed that a housekeeper like me could be the Alpha king's mate?
I couldn't help but stare at Alpha Greyson, who was now seriously eating. He's eating with grace and elegance at the moment. He appears to be flawless simply by holding his fork and table knife. I remembered what had happened earlier. He was amazing in how he handled his people. I previously realized that, despite his cruelty, he still cares about his kingdom. I'm just not sure if all of that is true.
"Amara," he said, and I almost jumped. I quickly lowered my gaze. Damn!
"Yes, your Majesty?" I replied quickly.
"I want you to get up early tomorrow and meet our wedding planner," he said coldly. I was taken aback. A wedding planner?
He noticed my pause and turned to face me "Why? Are you that excited?" I bowed and clenched my jaw. Did he really think someone like me would want to marry him? He thinks poor girls like me are always looking to leech on guys like him!
"No. I just think the wedding is...a little...quick," I said.
"Quick?" I was surprised by his tone. Is he mad, again? What did I do? I was simply speaking the truth!
"If you want to take it slow, we'll take it slow...but...you won't like it when I get angry, Amara," he said sternly. It gives me goosebumps. I shook my head and bit my lower lip.
"I'll...speak with the wedding planner tomorrow," I said. He got to his feet and placed the napkin on the table.
"I'm done. Clean it now," Alpha Greyson said, and the housekeepers cleared the table quickly. I stood up, even though I hadn't finished eating, and followed Alpha Greyson until we arrived at the room where I had been changed earlier.
"It will be your room until our wedding. I'll go ahead now," Alpha Greyson said and left. Before following Alpha Greyson, Beta Miguel bowed at me, and some guards did the same. I entered my new room quietly.
I sat on the big soft bed and felt it. I never imagined my life would change so drastically. I've always wanted to live in a room like this, but why can't I find joy in my heart now that I'm in it?
I will marry the Alpha king because the Moon Goddess has chosen me for him. I used to love him, so why can't I be happy now?
Is it because I'm not experiencing the love I've been longing for? I've only recently realized that it's easy to love...easy to fall into the trap of love...the difficult part is not being reciprocated for the love you shower on them.
I lay down on the bed and tightly closed my eyes. My eyes welled up with tears. It landed on the pillow where I was currently lying now.
I miss Shena and Mrs. Vikki. I miss them so much that I wish I could go back to the days when they were still with me.
I had no idea I had fallen asleep in that order. I awoke around five o'clock in the morning. The two ladies were already waiting for me. They've got to be my ladies-in-waiting. I can't believe I now have personal assistants.
"We are here to assist you, your highness," said the younger girl.
"What's your name?" I inquired of the two. They quickly lower their heads in respect.
"My name is Kylie," the younger one said.
"My name is Rose, your highness," said the elder. Rose and I are probably the same age.
I smiled and nodded to the two. They assisted me with my clothing and hair. I'm dressed in a white regency gown. It has a floor-length skirt and long flared sleeves. Even though it's a big change from what I'm used to wearing, I'm at ease in this dress. Especially since it has a lot of ruffles on the square collar and long lantern sleeves, as well as front and back laces to fit my body size. The ruffled hem is wide enough to accommodate my underskirt.
My hair remained loose. Later, a guard entered to inform me that the wedding planner had arrived.
Rose and Kylie trailed me as I made my way to an office where the wedding planner was said to be waiting. A guard opened the large door, revealing a large room to me. The large window in the center is bright, and there is an office table at the far end. When I saw Alpha Greyson sitting there, I was filled with dread. Beta Miguel stood next to him, and the two elderly men sat on the couch.
I recognize that uniform. They are the palace's elders!
"G-Good morning!" I greeted the two adults in front of me quickly. I'm even more nervous now, and I can see Alpha Greyson's eyes on me.
"So... she's your mate, your Majesty," an elder clarified. I bowed my head. I can tell he's disappointed just by the tone of his voice. I know. In so many ways, I fall short. Can't I get used to their critical gaze? Alpha Greyson, too, looked down on me.
"Let's not waste any more time, Mateo; just tell me when the wedding is," Alpha Greyson insisted.
"Sit down first, your highness," an elderly man next to Mateo said, offering me a seat in front of them. I sat down and nodded. Rose and Kylie were standing behind me.
"The wedding is perfect to hold two days from now, according to the formation of the stars, and it is also good because it will hit the full moon," elder Mateo said.
"Wouldn't wedding preparations take too much time?" wondered one.
"Raymond, what else are the palace housekeepers for when they are here to prepare? They can do it," said Elder Mateo.
So... they're going to force the housekeepers to work fast just for this wedding? Just thinking about the housekeepers who were my former colleagues being tired worries me, and I know that the work of the housekeepers will be non-stop for the two days of preparation.
"M-Maybe... can we extend the preparations? I think... the palace housekeepers can't handle the preparations in such a short time," I said, wishing I hadn't because I could feel Alpha Greyson's sharp eyes on me. I closed my eyes and clenched my fist around my skirt.
"Why? Are you worried about your fellow housekeepers?" I detected sarcasm in elder Mateo's tone and took a deep breath. I still want to speak, but I know my limitations.
"Shut up, Mateo, and leave my office right now; the wedding is set for two days from now," Alpha Greyson said coldly. Elder Mateo smiled, and Elder Raymond looked sympathetically at me.
"We'll leave now, your Majesty," they both said as they walked away.
"Miguel, I need you and the others to leave my office," Alpha Greyson said clearly. I was cold because I knew he was angry with me right now. As a result of my interruption of the conversation.
"Yes, your Majesty," Beta Miguel replied, motioning for the others to leave the office. My gaze was fixed on my fingers in my lap. My bite almost bled my lips. I'm worried. I can't help myself.
The silence was almost deafening. Alpha Greyson's chair shifted. When he sat in front of me, I became even more nervous.
"You really have that hobby of interfering with other people's business, huh?" he asked.
Other people's business? That is also my concern! It's...my wedding! And I don't want my wedding to come and go when I know someone is suffering behind!
"I just... don't want others to suffer just because of the wedding," I bravely stated. When he suddenly moved closer to me, I gasped. I turned my gaze to him. Alpha Greyson approached me, so I leaned back on the couch I was sitting on. His face was expressionless, and his blue eyes chilled my bones.
"Just because of the wedding?" he asked emphatically. He chuckled without a sense of humor. "Well, you're right. It's just a wedding. Nothing special, right? Including the fact that you're the bride," he said coldly.
A stinging pain ran through my chest. I lowered my gaze for fear that he would notice the pain in my eyes.
He stood up. He walked away, which made me relieved.
"If you think you have a say in this palace because you're my mate and the Luna of this kingdom, you're wrong. Know your place, housekeeper," he said with venom that almost killed my heart.
