Chapter 73: Chapter 73

**Cassie’s POV**

"That is a mere puppet," I said to myself. Whoever that witch is, she is not a normal one. She is powerful enough to create a powerful puppet; this is so alarming.

I went home, and Derek, Art, and my son Charlie were waiting for me. They look worried, but little did they know I was stronger than they thought. I am not a simple woman, but instead, I am a pack warrior.

"I should just drive and pick you up," Derek said to me, and it looks like I made them worried.

"I am fine; whoever is the suspect, she cannot harm me." That is true, but it does not mean I should let my guard down.

To stop them from further interrogating me, I cooked our dinner and served them a delicious meal. Art also decided to stay here for a while. He is a retired military officer, so he said that we are safe here as long as he is here.

The three boys are sleeping right now. Of course, my apartment is not as spacious as it could be, so we all stayed together in the living room to set up our beds.

I stayed awake because I do not need to sleep; after all, I am a nocturnal creature.

And to further create a double barrier for our protection, I decided to also create countermeasures. After finding out that the enemy is not simple, I cannot rest assured that this will be a simple thing.

Someone knocked on the glass window, so I stayed alert because we are on the damn 6th floor, and there is not an ordinary person who will go here at such a height at such a late hour.

I made a low growl to warn this intruder. One wrong move and I will not think twice about cutting his or her throat.

"This is a very warm welcome," he said. I felt a little bit relaxed as I learned that the supposed intruder was none other than my annoying boss.

"You are here this late; are you out of your mind?" I whispered with displeasure in my voice.

"Calm down; I am here for a purpose. Do you think my lazy ass will travel here because I am just bored?" He muttered in defense.

"Most likely, yes," I said, giving him disgusted eyes.

"Hey! That is not true. I have a life too!" Coming from an undead, pale, handsome guy without a single mirror reflection.

"Let us go straight into business, shall we?" I opened the window, but I think he was attacked by the barrier. I forgot that a vampire is not an exception to this barrier.

"What should I expect from a werewolf like you? These are well made; if I were a wimpy, lowly vampire, I might be drop dead right now." That is right; this barrier is not something that can be messed up by anyone who uses the dark power attributes.

We decided to leave the house and walk to the park. This is Claybourne City, the city that never sleeps, as well as the crime and predators that lurk in the corners of the shadows.

"I see that you fought one of her puppets. That puppet is so strong that some of the members of the Dawn council have to sacrifice their lives." Just a mere puppet? And what is the Dawn Council, by the way?

"I see; I can see that you are also curious about the Dawn Council. Okay, first of all, contrary to what the majority of supernatural beings know, it is not completely true that the government and some organizations have no idea about our existence; mostly, they know us. The Council of Dawn is the organization that connects with the human group for a harmonious relationship with mutual benefits." I see, or at least I know that such a group exists.

"Then I bet you are one of the members of the Dawn Council, right?" I said to him:

"As expected from my secretary, you are right; I represent the vampire community. By the way, something is odd right now." I can also feel that the lamppost here is flickering, no sounds are coming from the busy night, and there are no humans or other living creatures here aside from the two of us.

"But this is different," I said to Dale. It looks like he is on the other side of personality.

I saw how his eyes turned red and his fingers turned into claws. He looks devilishly handsome right now.

"I know; this is as if the real owner, the witch puppeteer, is here." As Dale mentioned it, a creepy and eerie laugh erupted. This is alarming and chilling.

"You made my work easier. Killing a powerful and high-ranking vampire is such a feast for someone like me, while here is the woman I loathe the most for stealing my life from me!"

"Show yourself! Stop this cowardice and face me; it is one against you for Derek’s sake." I will not let this witch harm Derek.

Suddenly, a girl with a pretty face came from the dark shade of the tree. I can smell her—such a disgusting and unpleasant smell. Fresh blood, the rusty and metallic smell She just killed a predator not long ago.

"For you, vampire, I promise to give you a fast and painless death, but that woman beside you should die according to my plan. If anyone would try to steal my man, they would face my wrath!" She waved her hand, and slowly, puppets came from the ground like they had been buried not long ago—a very good illusion to try ambushing us.

I manage to dodge, and so does Dale too. I slowly transformed into my wolf form. It has been a while since the last time K fought for my life.

The puppet charges with their attack, but I manage to dodge and counter them. It is easier than ever to attack me with magic; it is nothing but futile.

"Agh! I hate you, such an annoying bitch!" The audacity of this witch!
