Chapter 74: Chapter 74
**Cassie’s POV**
With my instincts, I know that an attack is coming on my back, and it is not an attack made from magic but instead a sharp object made from silver. That is to confirm that this witch knows my weakness.
"She is not here to joke around, huh?" Dale said sarcastically:
"Yeah, she is here to rip our necks," I retorted back.
"Or maybe our ass," he added. This boss of mine can kill me with his annoying words. Can I punch him in the face?
Before I have the luxury of time to think about how to sabotage my idiotic boss, the witch controls her puppet with a silver thread from her fingertips. If you just have any idea how annoying the way she chuckles is like she is teasing our lives,
"Can we end this witch now?" I asked my boss, still catching my breath.
"You have permission; this witch not only preys on humans but has this kink of torturing other supernatural creatures." Then this disgusting witch does such a thing? I will surely rip her neck for good.
"Hey, witch! Do you know that Derek is my mate, huh? Too bad, because the guy you want to spend the rest of your dirty shitty life with is in love with me," I said, intentionally provoking her now.
"You dirty dog! How could you lie to my face and say that he is your mate? Derek is mine; the day I saw him outside the bar, I knew that he was mine now; I have his life force now!" She brags like she brought Derek's life.
"Have a little shame; that disgusting face, that reeking smell of those innocent people and creatures you killed, Derek will never go to fall in love with someone hideous like you!" I shouted in rage, and I think I triggered her now.
"You! I will not let you see the sunlight! The will be your resting place... And I will make you both taste what agony feels like!" she cursed.
She finally got all in, and all we can do is dodge and attack the puppet, but the numbers and strength feel endless.
I admit that no matter how good I am at fighting this monster, it has been so long since I practiced and had an actual combat fight. But I can still do well.
Dale signed something, and it looks like he will do what we planned. All the puppets holding silver knives are attacking me at once.
We are feeding satisfaction to the witch by saying that he has no idea that Dale stabbed her now.
"Ah!" The witch cried in agony. She puked some green blood, and it looks like she is the real deal and not just another puppet.
"How!" she said in disbelief.
"You are so focused on attacking me in specific that you have no idea that Dale created the illusion of him fighting your puppet and sneaking on your back." She laughed in misery.
"So this is the end now? I will never accept this defeat!" She tried to escape, but she is pinned down on the ground with the runes that I made, so she cannot easily move and use some tricks on her sleeves.
"I will curse both of you." She did not finish what she said because her neck and heart burst before she cursed us. Dale uses her power—the ability to control blood.
"I think this is over," I said as we went back to my apartment. They are still under Dale's hypnosis, so they are sleeping safely and sound.
"End? That word does not exist in our world. You know what danger is, and it is either inevitable or something you can avoid forever. I saw how you fight; it is not bad, although I am aware that you are far better than what you saw a while ago," he said. I admit that what he said is true. I am not usually like this; I have to be better.
"I see; I will keep that in mind." I have to be strong because I have a lot of people I want to protect.
And I can't do that if I am weak as hell. I have to get stronger, or else this world, which I thought was safe, will crash and burn as well. I will never let it happen again.
"I have to go because it is almost daylight, and although I am immune, it is still going to be painful if the sunlight greets me this early. I forgot to put on my sunblock, so goodbye." And as he said those words, he was banished into thin air.
I decided to take a bath because I smell like a dead witch and have some sweat and blood.
I managed to do that, and at that very moment, I also felt so tired. It has been so long since the last time I fought like that, and it is supposed to be an easy fight if I am just the old one.
Now, I should rest first and think about it again. I slept on their side, even though my hair is a bit wet. I don't mind anymore since I am so tired.
I woke up to the sound of two people fighting. I just realized that Derek and Dax were here. I have a little headache, and it looks like I will get a fever.
I coughed, which made the two guys come to my side, and it looks like they are so worried about me.
"Don't fight now; I don't feel so good, so please, I want a quiet day." I know that a werewolf is supposed to be strong and immune to sickness. But knowing that I was exposed to so much silver made me weak to the extent that I am this weak now.
"Don't worry, I will take care of you," said Derek, holding my hand.
"I will too!" said Dax.
I think I should expect how chaotic it can be when these two guys are in the same room. Art is usually the kind of guy who is quiet, smiling, friendly, and a very gentle type of person. He is also brave, but I also like the way he can decide and is bold in some ways; the character development of this guy is so much, in a positive way, of course.
Then Derek is the more active person; nothing is surprising about it, but I never saw him so annoyed like this.
To be honest, they are all contributing to my headache. I feel unwell, but it is normal. I think I will be fine after a day of rest. Dale knows too. An angel came to the rescue to take over my schedule.
"I will cook for our dinner," Derek said while trying to snatch the pan from Dax's hand.
"A rich guy like you will cook for our dinner? You are joking, right? You tried frying eggs this morning, and you almost burned the whole apartment! I will not let you murder us," Dax said, annoyed with Derek. As much as I don't want to hurt my ex-boss, Art is throwing facts, and I agree with him. Derek is better at spending money than trying to cook a decent meal.
"Ha! I can buy a new apartment, a condominium, or a mansion if Cassie just wishes to!" Derek snorted. But Dax did not back down.
"The bottom line is, you don't know how to cook, so seat your ass back on the couch and just go out now and leave; the suspect was caught, and you are safe going back to your space," Dax pointed out. Derek looks extremely mad now.
"Derek, let Dax cook for us," I said to him, even though I am still having difficulty speaking. It feels like my throat is extremely dry.
Derek pouted and was very down on what I said, so for consoling him, "But can you make me a sandwich and coffee?" And that makes him happy.
Now at least I will have another 5 minutes of peace. It is raining cats and dogs outside, so it is so-called, and I felt like someone came straight out of a fridge.
"Mom? Why are they fighting so often?" asked my confused son. I should give those two a good beating. Look at their influence on me, son.
Derek put the plates of sandwiches and tea on the tea table. I looked at Dax cooking in the kitchen, and I gave him a thumbs up.
My son is busy reading books and such. Alpha genes are superior genes. And because my son has that gene, he is naturally smarter and stronger than the average werewolf or human.
"Derek," I said to him, taking his attention.
"Yup?" he said to me with a smile on his face.
I sighed before sharing my sentiments with him. "Can you at least not put a fight in front of my son? It is not a good scene watching the two important people for my son fighting," I said to him, a little disappointed.
It looks like Derek understands what I said. It is okay for me if they will fight if my son is not around; although I prefer a much more peaceful day than seeing them fight, right now, my son and I are living our lives like normal people, and I don't want my son involved yet in any violence. Losing my mate is painful enough, but losing my son will kill me in an instant.
"You are right; I am so sorry, Cassie," he said. At least he is not as stubborn as before. I remember when he was still my boss. I never met a single living creature as stubborn as him; maybe Kaiden is as stubborn as him, by the way.
The dinner is set now, and to my surprise, it is not a simple dinner. I close my mouth with my hands, trying not to cry. This is my favorite food! And only a few people, including Kaiden, know my favorite food.
"Why are you crying? Are you allergic to turkey? Should we order another good?" asked Dax, who looks worried about my reaction.
I shook my head and gave him a reassuring smile. "I am so sorry if I am so emotional right now. I just remembered my husband. The whole dining room fell silent, and I am so guilty because maybe I deliberately destroyed the atmosphere.
"Shall we? I am starving too; don't mind me. It has been a while since I tasted food like this cooked in my hometown," I said to them while scooping some of the soup. "By the way, where and how did you learn to cook this dish?" I asked Dax.
He smiled before answering me. "Is it weird if I am going to tell you that I just dreamed last week about how to cook this? I also felt that this was the right time to cook this dish, but I had no idea what its name was. All I knew is that it is a savory tomato-based dish with beef paired with rice or garlic bread," he said, scratching the back of his head. Isn't it too much of a coincidence now?
"Wow," that is the only thing I can say.
We just enjoyed the food, and honestly, I felt better because of his cooking. I felt refreshed to taste this dish after a very long time. Even my son enjoyed the meal.
After that night, Dax and even Derek decided to come home. At least he is safe for now, and they are safe. And on the other side, I should start practicing again.
I dialed his number, and it took me a few minutes before Dale answered me. "Are you feeling good now?" he asked.
"Much better," I answered.
"That is good; it looks like being with your friends makes you feel better," I swear my patience with this guy is getting thinner and thinner every single time.
"Don't start me," I warned him. "I am here for a favor."
