Chapter 55: Chapter 55
**Cassie’s POV**
I am a bit unmotivated to do my task, but I am not being paid here to slack off and do nothing. The truth is, I have a ton of paperwork, and I need to finish it all by my deadline.
I was busy typing on my computer when Angel came back from our boss's office. She looks troubled by the way she is looking at me.
"Cassie, I am warning you today. Don't ever go inside that office. The devil has risen from his bed of roses," she said, being a bit dramatic.
I chuckled. "What the hell?"
"Yeah," she mumbles, nodding. "The hell. Our boss looks very pissed off. I saw the worst in that guy. He is more tolerable than you imagine, but if he is angry, gosh, Claybourne will be filled with nothing but chaos." That is too much, right?
I have known Derek for some time, but I am not aware that he has this side.
"Okay," I said slowly while going back to what I was typing.
But my mind is distracted now. I am a bit bothered since I might be the sole reason why he is being that hot-tempered. First of all, I purposely rejected him.
But I am just being honest, and a long time of lying and acting to him might get him to assume something.
My work is already done, so it is almost time for me to clean my table and log out.
I look at the door of Mr. Ross's office. It looks like he did not eat anything at all. I saw Angel come inside the office with a tray of food, but she also evicted us not too long ago, and our boss did not accept the food.
I tried to ignore him. But for an unknown reason, I can't.
I immediately go to the elevator and leave the company building to find a nearby restaurant. I have nothing in my mind but the thought of feeding my boss. I know it sounds weird, but trust me when I say that I am just concerned about his health.
I chose to pick meat. Grilled lamb and some roasted turkey will be awesome. I also grabbed something to drink. I look at my wristwatch. I have to go faster. I need to pick up my son from school.
I went back to the company and knocked on the door as I reached Mr. Ross's office.
"I said leave me the fuck alone!" He shouted that, making me tremble.
"This is me, Cassie," I said, trying to encourage myself more.
A minute of silence before he lets me in. I saw his office as a little too messy. His table is full of unorganized things, and papers are on the floor.
"What do you want?" he asked me with his eyes full of grief.
"I heard that you skip your lunch. I'll grab something for you to eat."
He looks at the paper bag that I am holding at this moment.
"Do I look pitiful to you?" That took me aback.
I shook my head while trying to explain.
"I am just worried," I said to him. Answering why I am here.
"You don't have to be worried."
"That is the reason, right?" I'm trying to start the conversation now. I still can't believe that my handsome, charming, a little bit full, rich, and famous boss is being and acting like this.
"What reason?"
I sighed. "The reason why you are not in your usual mood is that I rejected you this morning," I said. And I saw how his jaw clenched. But his eyes show nothing but sadness.
"You are right."
I closed my eyes and let out a sigh. "You know, sir." You are dear to me because I consider you a friend. Someone who comforts me But I still love my husband. I can't just accept your confession out of nowhere. And I can't also let myself be affected because I am not on the good side with my boss."
It looks like he realized something. "I am sorry. Am I pushing myself so much?"
"You are acting weird, but rejection does not feel good at all, I know. But let us stop being one-sided here."
"I am not asking you to be my lover right away. I am also confused. I never felt this way before, and it scares me. I don't want to be a pushover, but can't you let me show my feelings for you? Can you let me explore more about this feeling? Maybe eventually I will realize that this is nothing but a friendship, nothing else."
I think there is nothing wrong with it.
"Deal."
From his stormy mood, it looks like his face brightens. I am glad that he is okay now.
I gave him the food because I knew that he was starving now. I never thought that my boss was this type of hard-headed person.
"Would you like to accompany me?"
I looked at my wristwatch and gave him a small smile.
"I am sorry, but I have to pick up my son at school. This is his first day; I am afraid that I have to go now." His eyes widened.
"Oh right, I almost forgot!" "Here, let me take you there."
I tried to refuse. "But you have to eat."
"Please? I want to see Charlie too." I forgot the fact that my boss has taken a liking to my son. Sometimes he acts like a father to Charlie.
"Okay, but I will be the one to drive while you are eating that food in your car." "If you will drive with an empty stomach, I am afraid that you can't concentrate while driving."
"Okay."
We went straight to the parking lot, and as expected, his car is so luxurious that it could build a fine house with how much it cost.
"Ahm, do you mind me driving your?"
"I don't mind at all."
