Chapter 56: Chapter 56
**Cassie’s POV**
So, we are now inside his car, and I am the one in charge of driving. It's been a while since I've driven a car.
I remember when I was in college, the one who taught me how to drive was none other than Kaiden.
I miss him. Yeah, I still do. But for an unknown reason, it is bearable now. I can't tolerate him on my side anymore. Maybe this is what they called acceptance? At the end of the day, I have nothing to lose if I can just accept the fact that he is no longer here.
I focus on driving while my boss is happily eating his meal. It is noticeable that he is famished. It is his fault, though. Why would he let himself starve?
"Next time, don't abuse your body. It was the right time. No matter how wealthy you are, you cannot restore your body when it starts to deteriorate."
"Thanks for the word, Mrs. Doctor." He teased me with those words. How dare this guy?!
When we reach the school, I advise him not to go out. Because he has no bodyguards, and also because his car is enough to catch the attention of the crowd. I also don't want him to be issued with or rumored to be with someone like me.
After all, he is a well-known businessman. Anything that he does and anything that he speaks of will be stated in the tabloids.
To be honest, being associated with him is too much. But I also realize that rumors are made by paparazzi who have nothing else on their minds but to get a new scoop.
If I know to myself that I am not doing anything wrong at all, I should let them salivate from the drought of thinking about my connection to my boss.
"Don't mind these people. They will talk if they want to talk, and they will think whatever they want to think. But what matters is that you never be affected by them. Cassie, look at me," he said seriously. "I have been a businessman for how many years? I know that it is a huge pressure for you to be with me. But I can protect you, your son, and anyone else. So I hope you will start not minding those fuckers out there."
I sighed deeply and nodded to him with a smile on my face. Yeah, he is right.
And about him protecting me. Maybe he thinks that I am just a woman. He has no idea that I can easily rip the neck of a normal person without making much effort.
Hey, I am just being brutally honest here.
We get off the car, and as SS said, I don't mind the stares from these people. They can think about what they want to think about. But what matters is that I don't care.
I saw my son sitting on the bench in front of his classroom. Mr. Dax is accompanying him, so I am relieved to see them.
"I am sorry for making you wait, son. Hi, Mr. Wood. Thank you for taking good care of my son," I said, gasping.
He averted his eyes, and his tan face showed a hint of red pigmentation as if he were blushing.
"Don't sweat it... Your son is naturally smart, kind, and very humble. I am so happy that you raised your child this way."
"Ahem," Derek fakes his cough, and that thing takes me a bit aback.
"Ah, Mr. Dax! This is my boss, and he gave me a ride here since we left the company at the same time. Mr. Derek, this is Mr. Dax, Charlie's teacher."
They both shake hands, but the way they are looking at each other is like they are werewolves, growling and glaring at each other.
Am I missing something here?
"Ahm, excuse me? What is happening here?" I ask for a break of silence. I am carrying my son, who looks afraid too.
"Let's go," Mr. Derek said to me.
I wave my hand to the teacher, and we walk until we reach the car. I put my son in the backseat and out of his seatbelt.
"Do you mind grabbing dinner for tonight?" he asked.
"Can you drop us at the supermarket?" "I promise to my brothers that I will cook for them tonight."
He nodded and started the engine. "Sounds like a plan. Can I barge in for your dinner? I will ask my butler to send the ingredients, so you don't have to bother going to the grocery store. It might be crowded and bothersome to go there anyway.
I agreed with him, and he started to drive us home. We reached the apartment building, and we entered my apartment as soon as we reached the floor.
I unlocked the door and took my boss's suit. "Feel free at home."
I let Derek play with my son. I can see that Charlie is happy with Mr. Ross as if they are close enough without formalities.
Someone knocked on the door, and my brothers are there. They are with their girlfriend's boyfriend, and the girls help me cook our dinner.
The apartment is small, but it is filled with laughter and happiness.
When I first came here to Claybourne City, I never thought that I could be this happy again. It is such a gift for me that I have a good support system. Werewolves might be stronger in terms of their physical strength. But we are more vulnerable in terms of our emotional weaknesses.
But I can finally say that I am in my healing stage, and every day gets better. I am so thankful for that.
It is already late, and my boss is a little tipsy. It is also not a good idea to let him drive this late at night.
I decided to let him sleep on the couch. Derek is not the worst human that I imagined at first.
But I don't think I can give him a chance.
