Chapter 54: Chapter 54
**Cassie’s POV**
Time surely flies too fast. I failed to notice that it has been months since we settled on the twenty-four-seventh city of the world. Claybourne City surely hits differently than the place where I used to leave. I thought I could not adjust to this kind of living, but I am happy to see that every day gets better.
The month when I will enroll my son in his class has finally arrived. Angel will help me introduce my son to his brother and the teacher.
"The seatbelt," I reminded Charlie. He looks nervous, but I can see the excitement in his eyes.
I also reminded him of things before we got inside the car. I said to him that he should not show his werewolf side, or else we would get into trouble. If there is a problem or someone tries to mess with him, Call me immediately; even the president would not help if someone touched my son inappropriately.
"Stop worrying too much, Cassie. Your son will be fine. He will gain friends, learn, and finally socialize. He needs it, and my brother will protect your son; trust me." With Angel's assurance, I can feel that I can breathe a little.
Well, I am a mother. It is just natural that I am getting worried since this will be the first time my son will be out of our protection.
"You are right."
We have no time to cook, so we go to a nearby drive-thru and order a breakfast menu. I pack some lunch for my son, but Charlie needs to eat breakfast. Breakfast is necessary, and I am weirded to know that some people do not know the effect of skipping one.
We finally reached our destination. Angel parked the car in a spacious field. We got off and went straight to the office, where her brother is currently working.
She knocked a few times, and a tall, tan-skinned guy appeared. I have to tilt my head just to see him because his height is way too high for a human.
"Brother! Cassie, this is Dax; he is my handsome and very passionate brother of mine. Dax, this is Cassie, and she is my friend and a single mother to a cute little kid," Angel introduced us to each other.
It feels like deja vu. The feeling and emotion that somehow I met him before. Somewhere, I know he exists in my life. The sensation is too much, but I am glad that I snapped back to reality.
Hey, are you all okay? You both suddenly stop and never give a blink, as if you are all transported somewhere."
"No, we are just fine!" "I am just surprised that he is this tall," I reason.
"Right! "My brother is tall and gentlemanly," she said while giving me a wink and bumping my shoulder.
I sighed... I am aware of what she is doing. I am so confused about why she needs to play Cupid. I honestly don't have any plans to push myself into a relationship when, in fact, I have no one else to love other than my mate.
Kaiden was engraved so deeply inside my heart.
I can see Dax sighing the same way I am.
"Angel, stop embarrassing us. You are doing this again. I have no plan for love, and your friend is embarrassed too," he said matter-of-factly.
"Wow, that is the longest phrase you have spoken for the past few years! Oh my, you stop being a man of few words," she teased.
"Stop pissing me off, Angelita!" he growls, which makes him a bit shocked. The growl sounds familiar as if it comes from a werewolf.
But those things sound truly impossible. I can't see any sign that he is a werewolf.
"I am sorry," he apologized for making us jump scared.
"It is okay; by the way, this is my son, and I hope you will take care of him. I am rooting for you. Here is my number, and please, if anything happens, call me immediately, Mr. Wood. I will take it as gratitude."
"You have my words, Mrs. Clark."
weird, but I feel safe and trust his words.
The bell rang, and so it is time that we have to go. For the last time, I talked to my son and reminded him again.
"Please, be careful," I said to him.
"Don't worry, Mom." "I will be alright."
I looked at my wristwatch, and Angel started to drag me inside the car. I want to stay with my baby.
We came inside, and she started to drive us to the company building. When we get inside our workplace, our boss is already there.
"You are too early," Angel said to him as if she were talking to her best friend. Sometimes, I am afraid of Angel's way of talking to our boss. I hope she does not get into trouble.
"I don't see anything wrong with that. I heard from Cassie that her son will attend school. I brought this thing, and I hope you will let me gift Charlie this," he said like a shy guy.
"Weirdo," Angel mumbled while walking away.
I took the paper bag he is giving me, and it is full of supplies—school supplies, I mean.
"Thank you for this." "Charlie will be happy," I said to him.
"If you will have time, can I invite you and your son for dinner?" he asks. I am a bit taken aback by what he said. Okay, this is getting awkward.
"I hope you will not take my word personally, but it is not normal for a single boss and a single mother like me to go out like that. Correct me if I am assuming things, but Sir, may I remind you that I am your secretary and you are my boss? I excuse myself and walk away from him.
I am so confused about why I felt so down suddenly.
