Subtitle: Getting to know him

I sighed and closed the door behind me as I walked out of the huge but empty house and towards the secret hideout behind this huge one instead.

I buttoned up my jacket after alighting from my car and handed the keys to the security to park in the driveway for me.

I clutched my briefcase in my hand and walked towards the company's entrance.

The first time I came here as the CEO, I was unsure about myself, and timid within, I remembered clearly. Now, I'm taking long strides, happy and fulfilled, with full confidence in myself that I could do a good job as CEO, and even a better CEO than Julian was and could ever be.

"Good morning, Sir."

"Welcome, sir."

"Have a great day, sir."

And many other greetings wafted into my ears as I walked past the reception and towards the elevator at the corridor a few steps away.

I had to admit, being CEO was a good feeling and a whole new experience. Anyone who told me that my coworkers would one day address me as boss would have received a scornful laugh from me, but here I was.

I stepped into the elevator and when it was about to close, I saw Zara walk right in front of me and into it. Before I could even say anything, the elevator door closed and I could only stare at her wondering what she was doing.

"Good morning, sir." She greeted and I frowned.

"What are you doing? There are other elevators, isn't this one supposed to private for me alone?"

"I know sir, and I truly apologize. I had to come downstairs to print some paperwork and since I was in a rush, I couldn't waste any time waiting for an elevator to get empty."

I stared at her, dumbfounded at her excuse.

It was passable, I agree, but all the same, it didn't give her enough right to do what she did without my permission.

I wasn't the kind of person to drag this out, so I decided to let the topic be and watched as she went behind me and stood there. I anticipated when the elevator would get us to the last floor and let me out of this place.

Truly, I was uncomfortable whenever I was with this secretary of a girl and as much as I would love to, I couldn't fire her because she has a lot of paperwork under her care to be taken care of.

This was all Julian's fault! I concluded.

If only he took his position in the company seriously and dealt with issues immediately they came up, instead of allowing them pile up to this extent, I wouldn't be here, stuck with such an uncomfortable person.

As if it read my mind, the elevator bell dinged, informing me about its arrival to my destination and opened up, making me smile as I saw comfortability ahead of me, waiting for me to come to it.

I wasted no time and got off the elevator immediately and took fast strides to my office. I couldn't wait to sink my butt into the soft swivel chair I had in my office and feel the Air Conditioner comfort me as I worked away.

I walked into my office after verifying it was me and went straight to my spacious and cleanly cut dark oak desk and sat on the chair behind it right after hanging my jacket on the coat stand.

I've missed this, honestly.

It's been weeks, I guess.

Ranging from the accident at home that landed me in a hospital to the issue of Julian getting married to Kylie, to me and Kylie making up.

I smiled, still reminiscing about last night and how good she looked in my arms when suddenly, Zara knocked, walking straight into the office and towards me.

"I'm sorry if I startled you." She began, almost getting to my side.

"I just had to submit this. I was surprised when you suddenly showed up this morning, but I'm glad you did." She completed and dropped a file on my desk.

I clasped my fingers together and put them under my chin. " What's this?" I asked, laid back on the chair.

"Your schedule for the next two weeks."

"Two weeks??"

"Yes, two weeks. Normally, I prepare a schedule of ten days, but you've been absent for a while, so to keep up with everything going on in the company right now, I thought it'd be a good idea to make it fourteen days." She explained.

I picked up the file and scanned it for a minute. "Why's it this fully packed though?"

"You remember the ten days schedule I gave you weeks ago?" She asked and I nodded positively.

"Well, you were only able to carry out the tasks on two out of the ten days, so I had to fix the remaining ones somewhere in the fourteen days schedule in your hands at the moment." She stated and I stared up at her.

" You're wonderfully dedicated to your job, so tell me, how come Julian didn't take care of this company as expected when you were his secretary? You didn't overwork him like you're doing to me right now or what??" I asked, curious to know her reply.

" Actually, the former president wasn't always around, in truth, he was barely around the company." She said and my eyes widened in shock.

"What do you mean barely around? I live with him in the same house and there was no day he didn't dress up for work. Besides, at the company, we were often called out to greet him." I threw at her, confused than ever.

The gaze she gave me afterwards made me realize that she might have said something Julian didn't want anyone knowing and when she started biting her lower lip, I confirmed it.

"You can't answer anymore? Cat's got your tongue??"

"I... I'm not actually allowed to reveal details about the ex CEO to anyone."

"Well, I as the new CEO is asking you to, and you dare not go against my wishes except you're no longer interested in dealing with this corporation and working as a secretary for me anymore." I threatened her, hoping it'd work somehow, and it did indeed.

She started talking.

" The former president only called you all out then to greet him in the mornings just to deceive you actually. He used to leave the company afterwards without anyone really noticing."

" So you mean he was only present to me everytime, but absent from his office almost everytime?" I asked to confirm what I had just calculated in my head and she nodded.

" It's okay, you can go now. I'll call you via landline phone if I need your help or presence with anything. Thanks."

" Alright sir." She said and walked out briskly.

I stared and wondered why she was afraid to speak about such details when Julian was just a past tense in the affairs concerning the company.
