Chapter 69: Chapter 69
Brody's POV
It didn't even feel like I slept for more than a minute, I had spent the whole night restless and sad. Karen was not by my side and it made me really sad.
I was very sure that she would never betray me and run away with my car. She would never do that to me because she loved me. She would never leave me.
I felt a slight headache as I tried to assure myself. Walking into the shower, I had a quick bath and wore a plain shirt with a jeans trouser. My mind seemed to drift back to her and I realized that I had barely slept for hours.
The door opened and Thomas walked in, I heaved a sigh of relief as I saw him. "Where were you last night?" I inquired with a smile. I didn't want him to feel sad about what has been going on.
He winked at me and sat on my bed. "I was really busy, I'm sorry I couldn't come home early."
I nodded. "Yeah, I totally understand."
He rolled his eyeballs and slanted me a look. "Where's your wife?" He suddenly asked and my heart skipped a beat.
I didn't want him to be worried but I couldn't lie to him. "I don't know where she is. I didn't meet her at home when I came back from work, he didn't come home last night." I answered.
He ruffled his hair and stared blankly at the mirror. "Really?" He asked.
Something baffled me, he didn't even look surprised about what I told him. "What's wrong? I can't lie to you."
He walked towards the door and closed it before walking towards me. He placed his hands on my shoulder and we both stared at each other. "Karen's with me."
I felt my head ache in response. What was Karen doing with him? I stared at him, confused and surprised. "I don't understand you."
"I've kept Karen in a small apartment safe from your dad."
I was still confused. He had no right to take Karen out of the mansion to a small house. Karen was my wife and not his wife. "What's wrong with you? Why would you take Karen out of this house without anyone's consent?" I asked him.
He removed his hands from my shoulder and sat on the bed. "I didn't do it because I wanted to," he paused and scratched his eyebrows. "You dad asked me to take her out of the country but I don't want to do that. She's in a small apartment and I want the both of you to meet." He went on.
No, this was not true. My dad would never ask him to take her out of the house even though he hated her. "Are you crazy? My dad has no control over her because she is my wife...." I paused and looked at him. "She's my wife." I shouted again, almost crying.
"Well, things have changed." He replied.
"What has changed?"
"Your dad wants to retain the position of the mafia leader so he wants you to get married to a syndicate leader's daughter." He revealed.
I chuckled softly and looked at myself in the mirror. "This is a joke, right?"
"I'm not joking and it doesn't sound funny."
My dad was not a Mafia leader and he wouldn't try to arrange a marriage for me with a leader of a syndicate. "No, that's not true."
"Do you need evidence?" He inquired and I nodded. "You bought a house in Oxford street, London," he said and my eyes widened with shock. How did he know about the house that I bought yesterday?
"How did you know about the house?" I asked..
"Your dad asked me to monitor your activities and that's what I did but I didn't tell him the truth."
I sank to the bed and held my hand in agony. My dad was a Mafia leader and I didn't know about it. "You work for him, don't you?" I asked.
He shook his head with a frustrated sigh. "Well, that was before but I don't work for him anymore. That was my last assignment and I completed it."
We heard shouts downstairs and I ran out of the room and climbed the stairs. I found the cops pointing a gun at my father and my heart skipped a beat.
My father was also holding a gun and he was pointing it at them. "Drop your weapon on the floor right now." One of the cops ordered him but he didn't look like someone who was ready to give up without a fight.
"I won't. I'm not going to jail yet."
I turned to look at the cops unaware of the reason they were in my house. "Officer James, what are you doing in my house?"
Without looking at me, he replied. "We found some illegal dealings that your father participated in and we're here to arrest him."
It dawned on me that they had also found out about everything. "What illegal dealings?" I asked the officer.
"Your father is the leader of one of the dangerous syndicates that has disturbed Texas." He answered.
I looked at my dad who was not ready to drop his gun on the floor for them to take him away. Tears dropped out of my eyes but I managed to stop myself from crying. "Dad, please put the gun down." I told him.
He stole a glance at me and frowned. "I'll rather die than drop the gun." He replied.
Why was he being stubborn when he knew what would happen already? "Dad, just drop the gun already, I don't want to lose you. Please, just drop the gun." I murmured.
Thomas climbed down the stairs and looked at me. "What's wrong?" He inquired.
I cleaned my tears with my hand and cleared my throat. "They're here to arrest my dad, they found out about him being the leader of a syndicate." I answered.
His eyes widened and he stepped back a bit. "You asshole!" My dad shouted and fired a shot in Thomas's direction.
I saw Thomas fall to the floor and my heart skipped a beat.
