Chapter 70: Chapter 70
Karen's POV
I felt dizzy and sat on the floor. I didn't want to fall sick but I couldn't help it. My eyes itched me and I felt like vomiting every second. This was totally the worst day of my life. I stood up again and gently opened the door.
Stepping out of the small house, I walked towards a small cafe and occupied a restaurant. The waitress came to meet me with a smile on her face. "What would you like to eat, ma'am?" She asked, dropping the menu on the table.
I looked at her with a frustrated sigh. Couldn't she give me anything to eat? I was really hungry and I needed something to eat quickly. "Anything would do." I muttered.
Her eyes widened, confused. "Okay, you should try our salad." She said.
"Alright, bring it." I replied and watched her leave after taking the menu from the table.
I placed my head on the table quietly and patiently waiting for the meal.
Brody's POV
I watched the men handcuff my father and the tears came out freely, I almost fainted due to the shock. How did all these happen? How was he able to deceive everyone and use the organization as his source of income.
I helped Thomas get up and he smiled at me. "Hope you aren't hurt?" I asked him.
He shook his head and cleared his throat. "I'm not, the bullet wasn't targeted at me."
I nodded and avoided looking towards the cops as they arrested my father. "That's great news." I replied with a fake smile.
"Why do I feel you're not happy?" He inquired, curiously.
"I don't know, I wished I could do something though."
"It must be a painful and bad scene to watch, right?"
I nodded and watched them take him out of the house in handcuffs. "I don't know what to think." I murmured.
"He might go to jail if you don't help him."
I chuckled softly and tried to make myself a little bit happy even though it seemed hard. "Helping him hasn't even crossed my mind." I replied.
"He might implicate other members of the syndicate." He said.
"That seems great. We won't have to deal with the leaders and members of the other syndicates." I told him and his face darkened a bit.
His smile suddenly vanished and his expression became dull. "That's....that's...gr..eat... great." He stammered.
"There's no reason why you should hide things from me, we're friends so you shouldn't hide things from your friend. Are you sad?" I inquired.
"I'm not sad." Those words came out of his mouth with a ragged sigh and my smile faded.
"C'mon, you don't have to lie to me."
He softened his eyes and lowered his voice. "Alright, I'm scared."
I ruffled his hair and looked at him. "Scared of what?" I asked him in a low voice.
"Your dad might tell the cops that I worked for him. I don't want to end up going with jail."
"You're not going to jail, I'm here for you. Everyone is here for you."
He nodded and moved towards the window. "Your mom left this morning before you woke up, she had a very important seminar to attend." He told me but I was only concerned about my wife.
He sat on the sofa and I walked towards him. "Where can I find my wife?" I asked him.
"I was wondering if we could go there." He answered with a bright smile.
"Alright, that's fantastic."
"Should we stop by the road and get her something?"
"Yeah, I'll get her flowers. I'm sure she'll love them." I answered with a genuine smile.
Karen's POV
After eating, I paid the bills with the little cash I found in one of Thomas's trousers back in the small apartment and walked out of the restaurant.
I felt dizzy as soon as I walked out of the restaurant. Was I truly sick? I walked towards the bus stop as I struggled to keep my eyes focused.
After standing there for a few minutes, the bus slowed down.
A few people got off the bus and I waited for everyone getting on to go before me. I followed the last person at a safe distance of five feet. "St Peterson's hospital." I murmured and the driver nodded.
The ride seemed fast as the bus pulled to a stop in front of the hospital and I got down from the bus. I walked into the hospital and the nurse directed me to the doctor's office.
Walking into the doctor's office, I occupied a small seat facing him. "Good morning, ma'am." He muttered with a smile on his face.
"Morning,"
I didn't even know what to say, I was just confused. "Have you done a medical check-up?" He asked and I shook my head. "Alright, I'll take you to the test lab and we'll run a medical test soon." He added and stood up.
*************
I waited for a few minutes for them to take my blood sample. Sitting on the small couch, I found a woman who looked almost exactly like my mother except for the hair colour which differentiated them. I was really surprised because I had never seen lookalikes except from twins or triplets.
My head hurt and I was beginning to feel dull and sad. I was getting impatient waiting for the doctor to call me into his office or tell me the results of the medical checkup.
"I can't believe this, Mr David Taylor's in jail." I heard a man's voice behind me and my heart skipped a beat.
That was Brody's father's name but why was he in jail. "I'm really surprised also, I didn't even know the billionaire was a leader of a syndicate." Another man muttered.
A leader of a syndicate? How did the cops find out? I didn't know what Brody was going through right now because of his father. I picked a newspaper near me and gazed at the headline. "BILLIONAIRE DAVID TAYLOR HAS BEEN ARRESTED BY THE COPS AFTER EVIDENCES EXPOSED HIM AS A LEADER OF A ILLEGAL SYNDICATE."
The doctor walked towards me with a smile on his face as he handed me the results of the medical check-up. "You're pregnant." He finally said and my heart skipped a beat.
