Chapter 65: Chapter 65
Karen's POV
Brody sat on the bed with a towel wrapped around his bath. "I thought you were sleeping, it's late at night already."
I smiled, "I don't feel sleepy," I replied. "Thanks for the meal you prepared for me, I loved it."
His face broke out in a grin. "You really don't have to thank me, you deserve it."
"Huh, can we talk about something?"
He nodded and shifted a little close to me. "What's wrong?" He asked with a soft and cool voice.
I shrugged and hesitated to tell him at first but I continued after a short period of silence. "Won't you make your dad happy if you remain the CEO of his organization?" I finally asked, hoping to convince him to stay as the CEO even though I wanted him to continue his dream.
He was baffled by my question. "I don't think I want to remain as CEO of his company, my dad's just being selfish."
"But it's best if you listen to your dad, he probably knows the reason for saying you can't be a musician." I explained gently with a fake smile on my face.
He frowned at me and ran his hands through his hair. "Why are you talking like you've been brainwashed?" He asked in a sad tone.
"I'm not... No one...... brainwashed me....I just want you to be happy...." I stammered.
"Being a musician would definitely make me happy, I want to follow my dream and believe in myself so I need you to believe me."
I cleared my throat. "Your mother told me about your childhood friend who was supposed to marry you to save the company in future." I told him.
He looked at me, his expression troubled. "She told you about Laura?" He asked.
I nodded. "She told me everything."
"That's it, my father has been trying to control me for a long time. How could he try to use me in saving his company?"
He was definitely heartbroken, I leaned on his shoulder. "I'm sure he didn't mean it like that." I answered even though I knew it was a lie. Brody's father only loved his source of income which was his company and not his family.
"What was he trying to do?" He asked, angrily. "It's not like he loves me, he was only using me for his selfish reason. Why was he so irresponsible?" He went on, seriously pissed off and that made me regret talking about the issue.
"Alright, you should sleep now, I don't think I want anything bad to happen to you." I told him and laid on the bed.
I could hear him grunt on the other side of the bed and tried to sleep but it seemed impossible. "I don't know what's wrong with that old man." I heard him murmur.
As I closed my eyes, I felt myself drifting into the arms of sleep.

Brody's POV
It didn't take long for Karen to wake up after I raised the curtains up. She slowly sat up on the bed and yawned even though her eyes were still closed.
I gave her a shaky laugh as she cleared her throat and finally opened her two eyes. "Good morning, sweetheart."
She smiled at me. "Good morning, my love." She muttered.
"Hope you slept well?" I inquired.
She shrugged and yawned again."I don't know if I slept, it just felt like minutes." She answered and I chuckled softly.
"I've made something for you to eat, Thomas would definitely bring it to your room so you don't have to come out of this room."
She looked at me obviously frustrated. "Are you going to the office this morning?" She asked.
I sat on the bed and planted a kiss on her forehead before standing up to adjust my tie. "I'll be back early with a surprise gift for you."
"But I don't want you to go." She grumbled and I smiled.
She was definitely in love with me. "But you wanted me to still maintain my position as the CEO of dad's company." I reminded her with a smirk.
She grinned in reply. "Maybe!"
I wore my clean and neat shoes. "Dad told the maids to leave the house early this morning, I don't know why though but if you feel lonely, you can always step out of the house."
Her eyes were lit with humor and her cheeks still flushed with color. "I won't step out of the house for a few minutes even if I'm bored. I'll just stay here and wait for you to come back from work." She replied in a bored tone.
"I'll leave now." I spoke through gritted teeth. "Are you sure? I don't want you to leave now."
I countered with a frown. "I have to leave, I'm going to be late for work if I stay here. Today's probably my last day going to that organization, I'm resigning today as acting CEO." I told her.
She giggled delightedly and winked at me. "I'm excited that you're ready to follow your dreams." She said.
"Yeah, I'm also excited that you're supporting me." I replied and walked out of the room hurriedly.
Karen's POV
My phone rang and I quickly picked up the call without checking the caller ID. I was surprised to hear Emily's voice on the phone after a long time. "Hi," she muttered. Even though she stopped calling and messaging me, I still recognized her voice. I was too shocked to reply. "I'm really sorry for not calling you, I've been a bad friend." She apologized genuinely.
I finally found my voice as tears rolled down my cheeks. "I'm also sorry for not calling you, I should have called you but I thought you were angry with me." I replied.
"I'm really sorry, I did things I wasn't supposed to do. Please forgive me."
I wiped my tears away with my hands and chuckled softly. I was trying so hard not to cry. "I've forgiven you, Emily. We're friends once again and I'm going to invite you to my second and real wedding with Brody." I promised her softly
"Thanks Karen, I love you so much." She replied.
