Chapter 59: Chapter 59

Karen's POV

Tears rolled down my cheeks. "Bill," I called out in a weak tone. "Please don't do this." I pleaded, my face went pale.

"You should have thought about this before falling in love with each other." He replied and snatched a mic from the musicians. He looked at us before making his stupid announcement. "Everyone, I have an announcement to make."

The whole guests outside turned to look at him and some of the guests from the hall came outside when they heard his voice.

Brody squeezed my hands gently trying to make me assured that he was not going to tell everyone the truth. "Everything would be alright." He assured me.

I nodded and turned to look at Bill, he cleared his throat before making an announcement. My eyes scanned through the guests and found Brody's family looking at him. My heart skipped a beat as I heard Bill's voice. "I'm a therapist and Brody's my client," he began. I could feel my heart thumping hard in my chest due to fear.

My gaze slowly returned to him. "I have evidence that proves that Brody's marriage with Karen is nothing but a contract."

The guests gasped and they all turned to look at me. Bill's father looked at us, his face reddened with anger. An image appeared on the small TV outside, it was the contract details. Bill had taken his time to snap the pictures and even make videos of the contract papers. We could not say the contract was fake because our names were boldly written with our signatures.

"It's fake, right?" Helen asked as she stood in front of us.

Tears rolled down my cheeks, I didn't want to lie to her. It was absolutely a wrong thing to do. "It's true..."

She slapped me and I held my face in agony crying. Brody tried to stop her but he couldn't. "Helen, it's not her fault." He told her and she looked at her with a sad expression.

"I can't believe the both of you pretended to be in love even when it was so real." She said and left the scene quickly.

I swept past the guests and ran into the house. Ignoring people calling me, I climbed the stairs and ran into my room.

Slamming the door after me, I sank to the floor in tears. Helen was really disappointed in me because I didn't tell her the truth.

Brody's POV

Bill dropped the mic and looked at me with a smirk on his face. "Did you really think I was joking with you?"

A few people were still outside when the rain started, they had started running back to their cars. Some decided to remain in their cars while some left the mansion quickly.

The wind was fierce and I found myself running back into the house. Helen slammed the door as soon as she walked in and closed the curtains.

Standing in the midst of my family, my heart skipped a beat. Tears was still in Helen's eyes and I knew she would hate me for everything. I looked at her and forced a smile through my lips.

She sat on the sofa and removed Diego's canvas placing them behind her.

"Was it really a contract?" My mom asked me with mixed expressions.

I nodded. "It was just a relationship contract but I didn't know we would get married." I explained.

My dad laughed slowly and slumped down on the sofa. "You can still divorce her, it's not late." He gave his own advice in an authoritative tone.

Mom slapped me and I took two steps backwards. "How could you do this to us? This is a huge embarrassment for our family." She said in a casual tone.

"I didn't know it would turn out to be like this. I didn't know I would fall in love with her."

She chuckled softly trying to hide her pain and agony. "You're not in love with her, it's just a contract. It's just a stupid contract and that fool told the whole world." She replied.

I sat on the sofa, my body was weak already. "This is all your fault." I told them.

"How is it our fault?" Helen asked.

I looked at them with a frustrated sigh. "You were always pestering me to get a girlfriend or a wife. I wasn't even concerned with getting a girlfriend so I hired someone to be my fake girlfriend. We later fell in love with each other and we're married. It's not my fault."

"You married a contracted lady, I don't see that as true love." Helen murmured and I turned to look at her.

"True love comes in different forms." I replied and ran up the stairs. Pushing the door open, I found Karen on the bed and I could hear muffled tears from her direction.

I walked in and closed the door behind me. "Karen," I called her name but she refused to answer me. I sat on the bed and pulled a strand of her hair. "I'm sure everything would be fine." I added.

She just turned to face me with a smile. I didn't know what was going through her mind, she could be blaming me for everything. "We should have told them the truth before Bill did."

I nodded and held a pillow close to my chest. "Yeah, they don't believe that we're in love with each other now. They believe that our relationship right now is based on a contract and not true love." I told her.

She sat up and leaned on the bed. "We should sleep tonight, I'm sure we'll sort out everything tomorrow." She replied and I switched off the lamp.

I stood up and brought down the window curtains because of the rain. It was getting heavier than expected. I knew my family would be mad at us, I should have thought about that before making Bill angry. My phone rang and I hurriedly picked the call.

"Hi, this is Officer Jonas," the caller introduced himself to me.

"Hey, any news?" I asked.

He cleared his throat and replied. "Yes, we have arrested Bill and he will be sent to jail soon if we have enough evidence but considering the fact that he has not done anything, the judge might send him to a psychiatric hospital."
