Chapter 57: Chapter 57
Karen's POV
I placed the bag on the bed and brought out the gifts Aunt Patricia bought from me. I found three new gowns in the bag and I smiled.
She was trying to be nice to me, I just couldn't believe that the woman who hated and wanted me out of Brody's life bought me gifts. The door opened and Brody walked in with a grin on his face. "New clothes?" He asked, slamming the door behind him gently.
I nodded. "Yeah, Aunt Patricia bought these beautiful gowns from me, I'm so excited that she has finally discovered that I'm not a bad person.
Brody stared at me in awe, he was really shocked that his excitement was not expressed freely on his face. He sat on the bed and dropped his phone beside him. "I might get a new phone soon." He voiced out.
"Why?" I inquired.
"It has a virus already. Sometimes, it stops working during an important call or meeting." I answered with the hope of answering her question.
"You can meet a phone technician to check it and repair it. You don't have to spend your money on a new phone." She advised.
I shook my head. "That's definitely not possible so I don't know what you're talking about. I can't meet a phone technician to repair my phone when I can always get an expensive phone," I replied.
"I can't wait for the party tonight." I added, changing the topic entirely.
Frowning, I replied. "Your family made me hate parties."
"How?"
"I don't know."
"There should be a reason?"
"Well, I'm sure your mom would have sent for a makeup artist for my face." I answered.
He chuckled softly. "Exactly, I'm sure she must be on her way now." He told me and walked into the bathroom.
I stood up and looked at my reflection on the mirror. "I don't need any makeup artist to look beautiful." I murmured.
"Of course, you do," His mom said appearing from behind me. I didn't even know when she came into the room, I slowly turned back and faked a smile. "I don't mean it like that, you're also beautiful but everyone uses makeup for parties." She went on.
My cheeks hurt from forcing a smile. "Yes ma'am."
"You're really unique and beautiful, I'm really lucky to have you in my family." She replied and walked out of the room.
Brody came out of the bathroom and winked at you. "She loves you and I'm so happy. I didn't know my family would accept you."
I smiled, a genuine smile that temporarily eased the tired lines on my face. Brody walked out of the room and a lady stood in front of the door.
I recognized the makeup artist as soon as she walked into my room. She was holding a makeup kit on her hands with a beautiful and pleased expression on her face.
We had exchanged numbers the last time she came because I liked the way she suggested a simple makeup for me and my face was still beautiful.
"Hey Maya, I'm sorry for not calling, I was busy with too many things and I hardly use my phone."
She slammed the door after her gently, making sure not to make any sound. "It's alright, I'm not angry so you don't have to be worried."
"Brody's mom sent you here for my makeup again, I'm so excited right now and I want to sign your autograph." I joked and we both laughed.
She dropped her makeup kit on the bed and looked at me. "It's really surprising, I didn't know you would get married to Brody."
I chuckled at her words. "Our love story was wonderful even though we scaled through a sad and painful moment." I told her.
She nodded and brought out her materials from the kit. "I'm sure you want something simple on your face."
I nodded with a smile.
Brody's POV
Thomas was carrying Diego on his shoulder when I found him in the kitchen. "Babysitting the billionaire's baby?" I asked him and he chuckled.
"Yeah, Helen's asleep, she probably needs to rest after all that has happened." He answered and broke an egg into a small bowl.
"It's kinda dangerous to bring Diego to the kitchen, there are sharp objects that are harmful and I don't want Diego to get injured." I told him.
He nodded with a smile and brought Diego down from his shoulders. "Huh, Diego... Please go....to your room." He stammered and Diego moved out of the kitchen.
"Your son's amazing." I murmured.
"Thanks man, I'm so excited about the party, I can't wait for the drinks."
"And all the announcements, I'm scared and excited at the same time, I don't know what to expect."
He winked at me. "Just think positively, I'm sure everything would be okay."
"You think so?" I inquired.
"I know so." He answered with a sigh.
I chuckled and leaned on the wall. "Huh, what are you preparing?"
"Pancakes, it's the only easy and quick dish I can think of." He answered with a slight chuckle.
I looked at him as he mixed the flour in a bowl. "My wife's mother is also a cook." I told him.
He smiled. "Really?"
"Yeah, she was recently on a reality show but she didn't win."
"She didn't win?" He asked in a mockery tone.
"You haven't spoken to my wife, have you?" I inquired cautiously.
He shrugged. "I was rude to her the other day, I don't want her to get angry with me because of that day." He answered.
"Are you cooking for everyone?"
He cleared his throat. "Just myself!" He answered.
"Really, I don't like that. Make some for me too and add lots of sugar in it."
"Sugar and diabetes are more like twins." He murmured.
"Last time I checked, you were not a doctor."
He chuckled softly. "I'm just trying to be nice besides I'm not specified in medical tips."
"Argh, that's boring." I muttered and walked out of the kitchen.
