Chapter 55: Chapter 55
Brody's POV
Thomas came to meet me in the parlor with a flower. He gave it to me with a smile. I looked at him, confused. I didn't understand the reason for the flower he gave me. "Huh, I just wanted to say sorry for everything I've done to your family." He apologized.
I chuckled and threw the flower at him. "This is a joke, right?"
He shook his head still putting on an excited expression. "I plucked it in the garden, I didn't know what you would like so I just decided to give this to everyone."
I scoffed. "Really? A flower? What am I supposed to do with that?"
He chuckled softly and sat down. "I don't know, I'm just asking you to forgive me."
"You didn't do anything."
"You were angry with me when you found out that I was cheating on your sister."
I looked at him with a frustrated sigh, he was definitely right, I just couldn't believe my eyes that night when I discovered that he was in another relationship after getting married to Helen.
"Everything's settled now, you don't have to worry anymore. I don't think Helen's still annoyed with you."
He brought out a small but beautiful box from his pocket and showed me. "Do you think she'll agree to get married to me again?"
There was a minute of silence as I thought about his question. Helen almost became a psychiatric patient when I told her about the truth. She refused to eat for days and developed an ulcer. Looking at Thomas, I didn't want to also see him sad. Everyone deserves a second chance.
"I don't know about that but I think you should propose to her again." I told him.
He nodded and kept the ring back in his pocket. "I will but not yet, I don't want to get rejected by her. It would hurt me a lot."
"What happened to your past relationships?"
He chuckled slowly for some seconds and narrowed his eyes at me. "It was based on lust and not love so I didn't expect to last long," He answered and stood up. "I'm sorry for the flower, I just wanted to make you irritated and annoyed."
I smiled at him. "I won't forgive you until we become friends again." I told him.
"We should probably spend some time together." He replied and walked into the kitchen. Karen climbed down the stairs and looked at me. She was dressed in a crop top and a blue jean trouser. Her makeup was light but it made her look more beautiful.
"Hi, I'm Karen." She reintroduced herself to me and we laughed.
She sat on my lap and placed a kiss on my forehead. "Do you think we should go back to our house? I don't think I want to stay here anymore even though it's safer here. There's absolutely no privacy." I suggested.
"We can't even kiss or touch each other, Diego might just come into the room and...."
"We'll lock the door before we do anything like that." I reminded her.
She heaved a sigh of relief and suddenly asked. "Do you think Bill is a criminal?"
The smile on my face disappeared immediately. "He definitely doesn't look like one but his actions made him look like a criminal."
Karen left my lap and sat on the floor, I noticed she was worried and sat even though I was willing to make her happy. "What's making you sad?"
"I'm just scared."
I chuckled softly and immediately stopped laughing, I didn't want her to think that I was laughing at her. "Scared of who?"
"Bill, he might do something stupid." She explained gently.
"Stupid? I doubt he would try anything stupid. The police should be looking for him and I don't know why he's hard to find."
"What if he's monitoring us?"
"He is not, I don't know why the cops have not found him yet."
She placed her head on my shoulder. "I saw him in Los Angeles in my mom's house."
My eyes widened. "How's that even possible?"
"He lied to her that he was my childhood friend." She answered.
Fear seemed to grip me for the first time, Karen's mom could be in trouble if he knew her house. "And also, thanks for the money you gave my mom."
"It's really nothing," my mind went back to Bill, how was he able to travel to Los Angeles when the cops were on the search for him. "How about we go shopping?" I suggested to her.
She licked her lips. "That seems fun." She murmured.
"Alright, let me inform my parents. I don't want them to be worried about me." I told her and she nodded.
Standing up, I climbed the stairs in a hurry and stood in front of my parents room. As I wanted to knock on the door, I heard a noise from inside. I decided to wait for a while and listen to their conversation. "Honey, this is not good for the company and you know it." I heard my dad tell Mom.
I paused for a while and caught my breath, I didn't want to make a sound for them to know that someone was listening to their conversation. "I won't let you tell my son what is right and what is wrong. You were never there for him," She replied.
I heard him laugh and a noise erupted from the room, I knew he must have thrown his flower vase to the ground.
"Get a grip of yourself." She added.
"What did you want me to do? I have managed to keep my family's name unique and special. What do you think would happen to my company if Brody becomes a musician or leaves with Karen to start a new life?"
I could hear her crying but I just stood there for a few seconds. "You don't have to care about people's opinion. I want you to care about your family and think about your son's happiness. This is the only right way." She told him.
"Never!" he screamed at her. "I'll never accept Karen into this family." He added and I ran down the stairs.
