Chapter 53: Chapter 53
Karen's POV
How could I tell him that I was nervous when I greeted him? "I'm sorry sir, I was...."
He interrupted. "It's alright, I don't expect much from an illiterate. A lady who does not own any company," he looked at Brody and then turned to look at me. "Did you even go to a university?" He inquired.
"Dad, I won't..."
"It's alright," I whispered to Brody, I didn't want him to be disrespectful to his dad. "I dropped out of high school, my parents didn't have enough money to further my education." I informed him and he chuckled softly.
He was livid. "I absolutely knew you didn't go to a reputable university."
Brody's mom gave him a stern look. "Honey, I don't think we should be discussing this. Let's just have dinner as one family."
"Dinner?" He asked. "I'm not going to have dinner with that woman." He added referring to me and climbed the stairs hurriedly.
Brody held me and made me sit down comfortably on the sofa. I didn't even know his father would hate me. "Your dad hates me right?" I asked him.
His mom chuckled and sat near me. "Of course not, I understand his point. He doesn't want his son to be mocked. It was the same reason I didn't like your relationship with her at first but when I realized the truth, I made sure to get you both married."
I nodded and faked a smile, I didn't want them to be worried. "Mom, I'll take her to my room and we'll freshen up." Brody said and we both stood up.
"Dinner would be served soon, don't waste time." She replied and we climbed the stairs.
Brody's POV
I felt embarrassed for Karen, I didn't know what would be going through her mind when though she seemed perfectly fine. My dad wanted the best for me but he shouldn't determine my future. "Brody," Karen called out and softened her voice as she sat on the bed. I slowly walked towards her and sat down near her. "I don't understand what's going on. Why does everyone hate me?" She asked me with teary eyes. I knew she didn't want to cry but she couldn't help it.
"Hey, no one hates you cause I love you more than anything in this world."
She chuckled and leaned on my shoulder. "Really?"
"Of course not, I don't love you." I joked and pushed her aside walking towards the door.
A pillow landed on my head and I jumped up in fear and turned back to see her giggling excitedly. She was the one who threw a pillow at me. "I didn't know my husband could easily get scared." She mocked.
I blew a kiss to her and folded my arms. "We're the same. My wife gets scared when she sees cockroaches and," I paused and pretended to be shocked by something. "There's one on your dress." I lied and she screamed.
When she realized it was a lie, she jumped down from the bed and I ran out of the room. "Brody," I heard my father call me and I turned back. He stepped back for me to enter his room. "Your wife is beautiful," He finally admitted as I sat on his bed.
He slammed the door after him and smiled at me. "Coffee?" He asked as he took a glass from a tray on top of his fridge.
"No, I have stopped taking coffees." I answered politely and he gently kept the glass on the tray.
"Why? I thought you loved coffee."
I shook my head. "That was before, I don't take it anymore."
"I've heard quite a lot about Karen, I'm going to ask you some few questions before you leave my room."
I sat up and nodded. "Go on, I'm listening."
He smiled and asked his first question. "If you take Karen to a board meeting in my organization, how will you introduce her?"
The first question seemed difficult, he wanted to give me reasons to divorce her. "I'll tell him she's married to me."
"And what if they ask for her organization?"
"I'll remind them that they're nothing but shareholders and they should not be concerned with my marriage." I answered and his eyes widened.
He slapped me immediately and I held my face in agony. "Are you stupid? You're going to make us lose valuable shareholders because of that girl?" He asked angrily.
I spat on the floor and smiled at him. "I'll do anything for Karen and I don't care if you don't like her. She's my wife."
He chuckled softly and sat down. "I'm surprised and dumbfounded. I'm your father and you should obey me."
"Obey you?" I asked in a mockery tone. Was he really expecting me to obey him? "That's not possible and you know it, you've always chosen my career since high school even when you know that I wanted to be a musician," I shouted at him as tears rolled down my cheeks.
"You killed my dream, dad." I finally told him.
He got up and walked towards the window. "I made you replace me as the CEO of Taylor's Enterprise. Would any father want his child singing in front of a crowd? Would that bring money to us?"
I chuckled at his words. All he cared about was businesses that would become a great source of revenue for him. "You don't care about talents, do you?" I asked him and he turned to look at me.
"Talents can't take you anyway."
"I want to get married to Karen again and we'll live somewhere far away from here and I'll focus on my music career and resign from your organization."
He laughed trying to hide his tears. "I'm not going to let you resign from my company. I don't care what you're going to do. I always planned your life and you shouldn't be the one to decide right now." He said.
I nodded. "It's alright if you think I'll let you make decisions for me but it's just a foolish thought. I'm capable of making my own decisions and I don't need your opinions."
