Chapter 52: Chapter 52
Brody's POV
We finally arrived at my mansion after boarding a plane back to Texas. Mom welcomed us with a hug as we walked into the house. "I've missed you." Mom told her as soon as she hugged Karen.
Karen giggled excitedly and I smiled. "I've also missed my husband's family." She replied.
Diego ran towards me. "Brody, what did you get me?" He asked.
I smiled charmingly at him. "I've ordered pizza for you, it should get here in less than an hour." I answered and hugged him. I wondered if my mom told him about the good news because he didn't even seem bothered at all.
"Alright Brody, I'll wait for them." He replied and walked up to Karen. "Karen, how are you doing?" He asked her.
Karen stole a glance at me before replying. "Absolutely wonderful. Last night was....." She paused and suddenly remembered she wasn't supposed to talk about what happened last night. I knew she couldn't get it off her mind.
I chuckled softly and her cheeks flushed red in embarrassment. "I've really missed you, Last night, I wanted to call you but Brody reckoned y'all would be in bed." She lied.
My eyes widened in amazement at how she quickly formulated lies. That was a perfect and professional lie, I couldn't believe this. Diego hugged her before running into his room.
"Where's dad?" I asked Mom.
"He's probably busy in his room. He has a zoom meeting with the shareholders and he's getting ready for the meeting."
I nodded. "And Helen?" I asked her with a sigh.
"I heard what happened, how's she?" Karen asked with a gloomy face.
Mom looked at us and sat on the sofa, she was also very weak to talk. "She's still in the hospital, she will be discharged this evening and we'll be throwing a party soon."
"A party?" I and Karen asked at the same time in shock.
Mom smiled. "It's just a normal party. It's not something to become shocked about."
"When is this party?" Karen asked.
"Tomorrow," She answered. "Tomorrow evening."
My eyes blinked in surprise. This was really not funny at all. Who gives mom all these crazy ideas? Throwing a party when Helen lost her child was definitely disturbing.
"Where's Jake?" I asked when I discovered that the house was silent.
"He traveled to Canada this morning."
My eyes widened. "Canada?" I asked, shocked. He didn't say he would be traveling to Canada. Why would he just leave?
"Dad forced him to go there to attend a business seminar."
This was getting rough and bad. "I'm supposed to be the one going for such trips. Dad's not supposed to stress him when I'm here."
Mom nodded with a smile. "I understand, Jake has his own company but your dad can be quite stubborn sometimes and you know that." She replied.
I cleared my throat, it was time to ask about Diego, I wanted to know how he coped with everything. "And Diego?"
She chuckled softly. "He knows about everything but he doesn't seem to care. He only cried when we told him the news but he later forgot about it," she answered. "I'm really surprised, I didn't really believe in cryptic pregnancy until now." She added.
"This is really surprising, I still don't know. She didn't even show any signs of pregnancy." I said.
"I was really worried when I heard the news that you were in a coma so I told her to call you."
I nodded and faked a smile. Thomas, Helen's husband came and hugged me. "How have you been bro?" He asked and I resisted the urge to punch him right there.
"I don't know, you're the cause of all these. If you were here, she would have given birth safely."
He let out a slow chuckle. "Helen was a stubborn woman, she wanted to always act movies even when I didn't want her to."
"She's into acting and that's her profession, I don't see any reason why you should be annoyed because of that." Karen told him and he turned to face her.
"Watch your mouth, you just came into this family few...."I
I interrupted him with a stern voice. "You do realize that you're talking to my wife rudely."
He apologized almost immediately and sat down. "I can't bear to see her kissing other men in films." He explained gently and we all laughed.
"It's normal for all actresses." Mom replied and climbed the stairs. I looked at Karen and winked at her, she smiled back at me and we sat down on the sofa.
"I'm so nervous and I'm also anxious to meet your dad too." She whispered.
I placed a kiss on her forehead and Thomas giggled. "I and Helen kissed a few times after our marriage."
"A few times?" I asked and chuckled at his statement.
"Don't mind me, I decided to come back. I've missed Diego a lot and I wanted to see him."
Karen narrowed her eyes at him. "You didn't come because of Helen?" She asked, surprised.
Thomas smiled. "I came because of the both of them but Helen's been stubborn these days and she doesn't want me around her but before this incident, we had a really long talk and I'm sure something positive is definitely going to come out of it." He answered with a frustrated sigh.
"You're supposed to be at the hospital." I told him.
He frowned and shook his head. "I was there once but then your dad told me to leave, he still thinks I'm the cause of everything that has happened."
I chuckled in amazement. "C'mon, I doubt he'll think like that. No one even knew she was pregnant, she didn't show any signs of pregnancy like vomiting or feeling dizzy."
"Your dad can be stubborn too," He replied and paused for a second. "Actually I don't think Helen's bothered about the loss of her child. She's going to be discharged today and her behavior would remain the same." He added with a smile.
Karen scoffed. "I doubt that would ever happen, the pain of losing a baby is unbearable."
"I understand," Thomas said as tears flowed down his cheeks. He quickly wiped them with his hands and chuckled softly. "I can't believe I'm crying like a baby, I and Helen only wanted to have just one child and we have Diego."
Karen nudged me with an elbow. "That sounds like a great family plan."
I turned to look at her. "No, we need three kids." I told her and we all laughed.
"Your father's here." Thomas chipped in and I turned back to see my father looking at us, I didn't even know when he climbed down the stairs. Thomas quickly excused himself and mom slowly walked down the stairs to join her husband.
I squeezed Karen's hand gently and we both stood up. "Hey dad, I've missed you."
No, that was not a way to start a proper conversation my dad but how would I know, he was always away from home. He only visited when he had a new project.
He ignored me and stared at Karen, Karen tried to open her mouth but when she did, she fumbled because she was nervous. "Good evening.... sir...."
Her voice trailed off. My dad chuckled and looked at the time. "This is just three o'clock in the afternoon," He reminded her and looked at me. "You didn't tell me you were bringing an uneducated wife." He muttered and my eyes widened.
