Chapter 47: Chapter 47
Brody's POV
She tried to cover her neck to prevent me from seeing the neckline but it was too late, her wedding ring slipped off her finger and fell on the ground. My eyes widened and I looked at her shocked.
The realization dawned on me, Karen pretended to be Lisa and deceived me. How could she do this to me?
Walking towards her, I picked up the wedding ring and looked at it. My gaze returned to her and I chuckled softly trying so hard to hide my tears even though my eyes had become teary. "Karen, I was such a fool." I muttered with a frustrated sigh, my heart slowly tearing apart.
She tried to hold me but I stepped back causing her to miss a step and almost falling. I wrapped my hands around her bare waist to prevent her from falling.
Slowly, she raised her head and let out a tiny gasp. My eyes locked into the most beautiful pair of black eyes that I had ever seen.
Standing close to her made me marvel at her beauty. I had never seen her this beautiful. She continued to gaze up into my eyes just as I stared right back at her.
It was as if we were the only two people that mattered in the world. Our surroundings slowly faded away.
Realizing how close we were, I took a step back and she also did the same releasing herself from my grip. "Thank you." She slowly murmured.
"I came to Los Angeles to find you but you deceived me," I began and faked a smile. "I thought you were Lisa because I trusted you easily, why didn't you tell me the truth? If you had told me that you're not in love with me, I would have requested for a divorce." I went on.
"I know," she stuttered.
"No, you don't," My voice was raised slightly, disrupting the quiet atmosphere, hence causing a few people to look in our direction.
I gave the apologetic look and continued in our conversation. "You don't know that pain you've caused me, you don't know how I'm feeling right now. You don't even know that I'm losing my mind."
"I mean, you're sweet." She said and her face grew warm with embarrassment as she fumbled with her words and began mentally cursing herself.
"Karen, do you love me?" I asked, determined to know the truth.
She nodded with a smile. "Yes, I do. I can't help myself."
"Really?" I asked with a low chuckle. "Why do I feel you're lying to me? You've lied to me so I shouldn't really believe you."
Tears flowed down her cheeks. "It's your fault. I didn't want to hurt you, I just wanted to help you. Bill would definitely try something funny if we continued with our relationship." She said.
I paused for a while looking at her. Was this her true intention? "Bill would never do something like that. At least, you should have told me and we would have talked about it." I replied.
She frowned and shot me an annoyed look. "Sarah also knew about the contact, I was worried she would tell your family. She also told me you never loved me and I believed her because you didn't even tell me for once that you loved me."
I chuckled in amazement. "Sarah told you that?" I asked.
She nodded. "Well, I admit that I was also at fault. I just couldn't bring myself to tell you how much you meant to me. I don't know if I was being proud but I'm really in love with you."
She smiled cheekily and tried to hug me. I stepped back and chuckled. "No, that was then. My love for you died the very moment I discovered that you lied to me." I explained gently with a cool smile.
Her expression was troubled, she sank to the floor shocked. I avoided her gaze and looked at the street. People continued to walk on the street looking at us. Some took pictures while some ignored what was happening. "You should stand up, you're only embarrassing yourself." I said with a stern voice and she stood up almost immediately.
"I love you so much, please don't do this to me."
"I'm surprised by your behavior, how were you able to cope knowing that you lied to me? You were always rude to me in the house. How could you not say a word when I talked about Karen?"
"I'm sorry, I didn't....."
Her voice trailed off and I laughed. "I'm not done yet, I trusted you and told you about the contract even though we just met. I was so foolish to even look at your hands because I trusted you."
"I'm sorry," she pleaded.
Tears flowed down my cheeks and I avoided her gaze and turned around. "We should go our separate ways. As soon as I get to Texas, you'll hear from my lawyer. I assure you that we would get divorced soon." I replied.
"I can't do without you." She said and hugged me from behind.
How could she do this to me? My heart was already torn into pieces. She was able to play those games with me without remorse in her heart. How was she able to deceive me without thinking about my feelings? My head started to ache me and I felt dizzy. I slowly released myself from my grip. "Bye Karen." I murmured.
Karen's POV
My heart was torn into pieces and I finally realized how much I loved Brody, I closed my eyes imagining the days and moments we had together when I heard a noise and I turned to look at Brody.
He was down on the floor, lifeless.
My heart skipped a beat as I ran towards him. People had began shouting for help,
I looked to see if his chest was rising or falling but I couldn't even decipher. Listening over his mouth and nose for breathing sounds, I couldn't hear any sound. "Help!" I screamed.
