Chapter 46: Chapter 46
Karen's POV
I woke up and found myself on the bed. What was I doing back in bed? Yawning, I climbed off the bed. I remembered sleeping on Brody's shoulder but I didn't understand how I woke up and found myself on my bed.
Walking into the bathroom, I undressed and stood under the shower. I didn't waste time in the shower as I quickly wore my dress after bathing. I walked out of the bathroom and yawned again. I almost screamed when I looked at the time. It was already 10 o'clock. Why was the house so silent?
I quietly opened the door and walked out. My mom was attending to her customers and I smiled. "Momma," I called out and she ignored me walking into the kitchen.
It was probably because she was busy attending to her customers. I followed her into the kitchen hoping to know why the house was silent. It suddenly felt like I was lonely again or maybe she was just angry because I couldn't tell Mr Albert to help her. "Good morning, mom,"
She smiled at me and I frowned, I definitely knew when my mom faked a smile. Was she angry with me? "Mom, I'm sorry about yesterday. I and Brody got stuck in the warehouse, someone locked us inside." I explained gently.
"I already know," She replied and concentrated on the cake in the oven. "I'm really busy, can you go to your room please?" She pleaded.
She had never behaved like this to me before. What was wrong? "Mom, where's Brody?" I asked and she ignored me again. "Mom, what's going on?"
"Brody brought you back home."
Something was definitely wrong. "I'll go to his room and thank him." I said.
She almost screamed at me. "How could you do this? Brody's already in the airport, probably on his way back to Los Angeles. He would be gone in a few minutes." She announced and my heart shattered into pieces.
I suddenly felt my head spinning, my world collapsed. Brody would never forgive me. "Mom, I didn't...."
She interrupted me sending a slap across my face. I could see tears in her eyes. "You're so foolish, how could you do this to your husband? How can you try to hide your feelings?" She asked angrily and I began to cry.
I ran out of the house with bitterness in my heart. Was I really a bad person?
Brody's POV
As I got to the airport, I stepped down from the car and paid the taxi driver. My phone rang as soon as I kept my wallet in my pocket. The caller ID showed that it was Jake. I hurriedly picked up the call with a broad smile on my face. "Hey bro, I'm coming back to Texas."
"I can't wait to see you, Mom is worried already, she doesn't want to see you get hurt."
I smiled cheekily and scratched my cheeks. "Guess what!"
"I can't even think of anything right now." He told me.
"Alright," I paused and caught my breath. "Guess what, I found Karen's lookalike." I announced.
He chuckled and I could hear muffled laughter in the background. "What's that sound?"
There was a moment of silence before he finally answered. "Helen's husband is around and he's spending time with his son."
A genuine smile plastered on my face, it was just what I wanted. I wanted the both of them to be happy forever, they could even get back together because of Diego and find love again. "How's Helen?"
"A little but sad about everything but believe me, she's starting to fall in love with her ex husband. They might be starting a big family very soon."
"I can't wait." I replied.
"About Karen, how did you meet her lookalike?" He inquired.
"Her name is Lisa and her mom owns a restaurant. They actually used their house as a restaurant but believe me, they're good people. Her mom is a nice cook too."
"I'm really shocked, I don't believe in lookalikes, are you sure they're not manipulating you?"
I laughed. "They're not, Lisa has the same body characteristics even though she's very rude. She doesn't even want to see me around her."
It took him a few seconds to reply. "Why do I suspect that she's playing you? She might be Karen."
"She's not Karen." I replied.
He scoffed. "C'mon, don't act like a kid. Did you see your marriage ring on her finger? Did you also check if she wore her neckline?"
It dawned on me that I had not taken note of her wedding ring when I was in the house. My brother could be right, Lisa could be Karen.
"I don't think Karen can hurt me, I don't think that's Karen."
"Go back and confirm." He advised.
I frowned. "I'm already at the airport." I told him as I bit my lips uncertainly.
"Go back and confirm if she's Karen." He ordered and hung up.
Karen's POV
This was foolishness, how could I do such a thing? I walked past six houses and found a little kid sitting there. "Good morning," he greeted me as soon as I sat down. "I like you."
He was so outspoken. "How are you? I like you too."
"I'm fine."
I wondered what a sharp kid was doing all alone in the streets. "Where are your parents?" I asked him and he frowned.
"They don't want me anymore, I'm staying with my aunt who cares for me." He answered and I felt back.
"I'm so sorry for reminding you."
He nodded and my mind drifted to Diego. He was lucky to have such a loving and caring mother. The boy stood up and ran away, I chuckled and then my laughter turned into muffled tears. I brought out the neckline and wore it back on my neck.
How could I do this? I couldn't do without him, I'll definitely tell him the truth anytime we met again. I couldn't keep on hurting him, I just couldn't. "Lisa?" A familiar voice called out and I stood up and found Brody staring at me.
I tried to cover my neck to prevent him from seeing the neckline he gave me on my neck but it was too late, my wedding ring slipped off my hand and fell on the ground. He looked at me shocked.
