Chapter 45: Chapter 45

Karen's POV

I sat down on the floor weak and exhausted. The worst thing I ever wished for was to be stuck in a warehouse with Brody, my husband.

"What did you want to tell me outside before we got interrupted by a car honk?" He asked and my heart raced.

"It's no longer important."

"Why?" He inquired.

"Forget it, I don't want to tell you."

He scoffed. "That's unfair Miss, you can't just do that. It's not right for you to keep secrets from me."

I ignored him and leaned on a small box. He chuckled softly and went back into Mr Albert's office. The last thing I wanted was to be stuck with him. I couldn't control myself around him even though I made him feel worthless.

He had a strong effect on me and I couldn't deny my attraction to him.

The warehouse had started to turn dark which indicated that it was evening already. Brody came out of the room and handed me a jacket. "You must be feeling cold." He said and I tugged the jacket on and smiled at him.

"Thank you."

"What's with you anyway?"

I narrowed my eyes at him, confused. "I don't understand you."

He sat down near me and removed his canvas. He placed them in a corner near me and also leaned on the box. "Are you comfortable?" He asked and I nodded.

"I don't know what my mom would think, I don't want her to be worried." I answered.

He shrugged. "Maybe she would be worried."

"Not maybe, she's definitely worried." I replied.

"My family would be worried, I only told my junior brother that I would be coming to Los Angeles. I thought I would find Karen but I was just so dumb to think that it would be easy finding her."

I stole a glance at him, tears in his eyes. Even though I didn't want to see him get hurt, I wanted us to do the right thing. I wanted us to live our normal lives before we signed the contract.

"Can I trust you?" He suddenly asked and I nodded. "My marriage was based on a contract." He went on and my heart raced.

"A contract?" I played along. "What type of contract?"

He chuckled softly and licked his lips. "A relationship contract. Bill was my therapist and he was the only person that could advise me. I mean, I thought that he could advise me but I was wrong."

"Bill? A therapist? I didn't know wealthy people needed personal therapists." I joked and we both laughed.

"My mom called me one day at work, she wanted to meet my girlfriend because I told her I had a girlfriend."

I blinked my eyes confused. Why did he lie to his mother? "Your girlfriend must be lucky."

He smiled at me. "I was not in a relationship, I just used that because my family members thought I was gay and my dad didn't want to make the CEO of his company. I had to lie to them about having a girlfriend."

Smiling, I understood the reason for lying to his parents. "Surprisingly, I met this crazy girl in Henry's company, she was his neighbor."

Did he just call me crazy?

"We clicked and I took her to a party, she became drunk and tried to seduce me but I refused her sexual urge."

Tried to seduce him? No, I didn't do anything. He was the one who used me and dumped me before the next morning. "Are you sure she was crazy?"

He laughed at my question. "I couldn't have described her better."

One more insult and I would send a slap across his face. I was already resisting the urge to slap him.

"That bitch accused me of having sex with her the next morning in Bill's office. Did I tell you, that crazy woman turned out to be my wife?"

I almost blushed at his last statement but I controlled myself. Why should he call me a bitch? That was not fair.

"That's romantic, your love story needs to be published for the world to read."

He grinned at me. "My family would disown me for fraud and my mother would hate me for my crime."

I chuckled and nudged him with an elbow wondering how he could be so sweet and hilarious at the same time. "She wouldn't." I replied and giggled excitedly at the sight of Brody charged with a crime in court.

"You don't want to know what my mom is capable of doing." He murmured.

Of course I knew what she could do. She made me depressed and sat at first. "Believe me, I'll be your lawyer." I joked and he laughed.

"Surprisingly I never got the chance to ask Karen about her parents, she only told me that her mom was in a cooking reality show and her dad was a driver."

"That's awful."

"Her dad's nice though," he suddenly said. "He came to my mansion before my mistake wedding with Karen."

I nodded and decided to ask him a question that bothered me everytime. "How did you know that you were in love with me?"

His eyes widened and my cheeks flushed red with embarrassment. "No, I don't mean that. How did you know that you were in love with her?" I asked again. I didn't want him to suspect me.

He paused for a second surveying my question. "An harmless question right?" He asked.

A smile plastered on my face. "Yes." I muttered shyly.

"I had always loved her, I was just too proud to admit it."

Another shocking revelation, Brody had loved me from the start but he was too proud to tell me. I had started to get sleepy even though I tried to keep my eyes open.

"You're feeling sleepy already." He noticed and I nodded.

"More than sleepy." I managed to reply as I rested on his shoulder.

"Good," he murmured. "My shoulder can be your pillow for tonight." He went on sarcastically.
