Chapter 43: Chapter 43
Karen's POV
"Tell him about what?" I almost shouted forgetting that he was in the parlor. "What should I tell him? I can't possibly tell him the truth, I can't."
"What truth?" A voice asked from behind me and I turned back to see Brody right behind me.
"Brody, you didn't tell me you were behind me." I murmured trying to fake a smile even though I was shocked. I silently hoped he didn't hear what I was telling my mom.
"What truth? Are you hiding something from me?" He asked.
I stepped back a little trying to explain or probably trying to lie to him. "You won't understand."
I stole a glance at my mom, her face was blank without an expression. She walked out of the kitchen as soon as she noticed me turn in her direction.
"Look, I'm not hiding anything from you... It's just...."
He cut in angrily. "Just what? What is it that you can't tell me?"
"My relationship, I'm having issues with my boyfriend, my mom suggested to me about telling you about my problems but I disagreed with her. I didn't know you had heard already." I lied.
He smiled. "I didn't hear anything, I just came to drop my plate in the sink."
I heaved a sigh of relief and gazed at the ceiling. "Yeah, there's no problem."
"And what's the issue?" He suddenly asked and I brought my face down to look at him.
"Issue?"
"Yeah, what's going on between you and your boyfriend?"
I cleared my throat. "Someone told him about you and he's been jealous. He wants to come here and beat you." I lied.
He chuckled softly and dropped his plate in the sink. "I didn't know your boyfriend was a boxer."
"You should leave." I finally said and he frowned. "Why does it feel like you want me out of your sight?"
"Of course, that's what I want. I don't want to see you in this house." I replied and tears filled my eyes.
"But you keep saying those words with tears in your eyes. I know you don't want me to go so why are you hurting yourself."
"Leave!" I almost screamed at him.
"I'll leave Los Angeles tomorrow and start a new life, you don't know what I'm going through and that's why it's easy for you to ask me to leave."
What was he going through?
"Alright, we don't have any problem then, we should stay away from each other until you leave."
He didn't give me a reply. He just walked out of the kitchen.
I sank back to the chair with tears in my eyes, I didn't know when I started crying. I couldn't find myself telling him the Truth because I knew he could get really upset and hate me forever but I couldn't do anything.
I was trying to stick to the terms of the contract even though it seemed impossible. "Don't fall in love!" Bill's voice echoed in my ears.
"He doesn't love you." Sarah's voice also echoed in my ears and tears tickled in my eyes.
I cleaned my tears with my hand and moved towards the parlor. Mom was in the parlor obviously lost in thoughts. She frowned as soon as she saw me. "I don't care if he hears me but you're hurting him so much and I don't want to see him depressed because of you," Mom said.
She sounded like she was going to tell him that I was Karen.
"If you don't tell him tomorrow morning, I'm really going to tell him that you're Karen, his wife."
"You wouldn't do that mom, would you?" I ventured cautiously even though I knew that my mom could do anything for me.
"There's no limit to what I can do to make things right." She replied.
Brody's POV
I laid on the bed wondering why Lisa hated me. Why was I so sad? She wanted me to leave her house even though we haven't met before.
Yawning, I removed my shirt exposing my abs and stared at myself in the mirror. The door opened and I looked at Lisa, she was standing by the door obviously staring at my abs. "Why aren't you saying anything?" I asked with a smirk.
"Huh.... I..... came to tell .... you that I'm sorry." She stammered.
I ignored her apology and wore a shirt quickly. "Thanks for the shirt." I simply thanked her for the new clothes her mom gave me.
"It's no problem."
"I didn't know I'd stay for too long in Los Angeles so I didn't bring clothes. I'll be leaving tomorrow so it doesn't really matter." I replied.
She nodded with a smile that genuinely eased the tired lines of her face. "My mom wants to see you."
"Alright." I replied and swept past her walking out of the room.
Her mom was collecting some money from a man when I entered. "Ma'am, you called for me."
"Yes, I'm sorry but I need your help."
"Okay ma'am, what is that?" I asked her.
"Can you follow my daughter to Mr Albert's warehouse? I was paid to cook for a group of children and he offered to help me. I don't have his number, I would have called him."
Perfect! This was perfect timing to spend some time with Lisa alone. I was getting excited already but I didn't want her to know. "There's no problem ma'am, I'll follow your daughter." I told her and walked out of the house.
Karen's POV
Entering into the parlor, my mom winked at me and I noticed her excitement. "What's wrong? You've never been this excited."
"Yeah, I guess so and I'm so excited right now. Brody agreed to follow you to Mr Albert's warehouse."
My heart skipped a beat. Why would my mom ask him to follow me without my consent?
"Mom, he can't follow me, I'll be distracted."
"Is it because you're still in love with him?" She asked.
I stared at the floor with no reply, this wasn't fair and she knew it. My marriage or relationship with Brody won't work.
