Chapter 42: Chapter 42
Karen's POV
Mom walked into the kitchen as I neatly arranged the plates on the cupboard. "Good morning, mom." I politely greeted her. Brody was really lucky that my mom did not behave like his mom.
"How was your night?" She asked and I suddenly remembered that I slept in Brody's room because of fear of the cockroaches in my room.
"It was annoying. Brody was annoying." I retorted and her eyes widened. "It's not what you think, I can't do such a thing." I continued.
Did my mom think I'll have sex with him easily. "Are you sure?" She asked again and I chuckled.
"Mom," I called out with a soft voice. "Believe me, I and Brody have not...." I paused when I remembered that we might have had sex when he took me to that party.
"Aren't you going to complete your sentence?" She suddenly asked, jerking me back to reality.
"I'll rather not complete it."
Mom sighed. "Mom, I totally forgot about what you asked me to do yesterday."
She smiled at me. "That would be tomorrow. The students convinced their teacher to let them stay for a day more."
I nodded and heaved a sigh of relief. "That's great."
"Have you had breakfast?" She asked.
I nodded with a smile. "And Brody?" I shot her an annoyed look at her question and she nudged me with an elbow. "He's a guest here and he should not stay hungry." She answered and switched on the gas to cook for him.
Frowning, I moved out of the kitchen and found Brody staring at the TV. "Good morning."
I ignored his greetings and took a napkin from the small wooden cupboard near me and cleaned it. "Aren't you going to reply? It's not a good thing to snub people." He went on.
"Just shut up." I snapped.
"I still have a feeling that you're Karen." He murmured and my heart raced.
"Are you that crazy? Who's Karen? I'm Lisa and not Karen."
He licked his lips. "Karen's more beautiful." He muttered.
Fool! How couldn't he know that I was Karen? "Won't you recognize your wife when you see her?" I asked him.
"I should. I mean, I'll definitely recognize her."
"When are you leaving?" I asked him, trying so hard to control my feelings around him even though my heart longed for him. I wanted to fight that attraction.
He blinked his eyes at me. "It's obvious that you don't want me here so I'll leave." He answered.
I narrowed my eyes at him. "That's great, I can't wait for you to leave my house." I managed to reply with tears in my eyes. I couldn't do this, I couldn't watch him leave. Why was I in love with him?
"Are you crying?" He suddenly asked and I cleaned my tears with my apron immediately and glared at him.
"Pervert," I screamed and threw the rag at him. "Why should I cry for someone who's worthless to me?"
"I'm definitely not worthless to you." He replied.
"You should think about Karen not me."
"But I see Karen in you,"
I smiled at his words and resisted the urge to kiss him immediately. Noticing the smile on my face, he grinned. "You're blushing already." He murmured.
"Blushing is one thing I'll never do because of a guy." I replied and he chuckled softly.
"Well, you're cute without blushing. It's not like Karen was always happy when we were together. I just felt bad that I wasn't able to give her the love she deserved."
"Sarah?" I asked him and he stared at me.
"How did you know about her?" He inquired, confused.
I chuckled at his question quickly thinking of a lie to tell him. "Sarah was your girlfriend for a long time. It was in the news last year." I answered.
"Didn't know that, I don't know why bloggers are bothered with the life of a billionaire's son."
Yeah, I get that. He must be fed up with all the attention. "I totally understand you, I want to love a simple life." I said and sat on the sofa.
"Me too. Maybe I'll take Karen to a quiet town."
"Like Puerto Rico?" I chirped in.
He smiled charmingly at me. "Of course, I'll buy a house near the beach and live there with Karen, I've planned a lot for her and I can't wait for her to get pregnant,"
Pregnant? I had never really thought of that. Surprisingly, getting pregnant for a man never crossed my mind but I loved kids so getting pregnant was not a problem. "We'll have kids, maybe two or three. I'm sure she'll give birth to twins or triplets. We'll all build a snow castle."
"And what if she doesn't want kids?" I asked him and he stared at me a little bit shocked at my question.
"I don't think Karen hates kids, she was close to Diego back at my mansion and she loved him."
Yeah, he was right. I actually wished Diego was my child even though he knew about the contract. Mom came out of the kitchen and gave him a plate of Bacon, egg and cheese sandwich.
He thanked her and munched the food hungrily. I cleared my throat and followed my mom to the kitchen. "Mom, I can't do this any longer." I told her with a scared expression.
I didn't want to break his heart and also hurt myself in the process. "What are you going to do?" She inquired as I pulled a small wooden chair and sat down.
"I don't know, I'm totally confused. I can't do without him and I'm afraid of losing him but it's only right because of the contract. It was just meant to be a contract and not a real relationship."
"What are you saying?"
Looking at her, I didn't know what to say. "I'm really confused."
"You should tell him." She finally said after a long moment of silence.
"Tell him about what?" I almost shouted forgetting that he was in the parlor. "What should I tell him? I can't possibly tell him the truth, I can't."
"What truth?" A voice asked from behind me and I turned back to see Brody right behind me.
