Chapter 15: Chapter 15
Brody's POV
Looking at her, I was totally confused. Why was it so hard for her to lie to him? "I'm his girlfriend." She finally told him.
"That's nice."
"Thanks Diego, I've heard a lot about you from Brody." She lied and I chuckled silently.
"You're pretty and I can't wait for our family to get to know you when granny...."
"Diego?" I interrupted and ruffled his hair, I didn't want him to tell her that my mother was coming. "You should go to your room now." I told him with a smile.
He shrugged and looked at me with a frown. He released an exasperated sigh.
"This place sucks, my mother doesn't treat me like this." He blurted out and I almost slapped him but Karen stopped me.
"I'm here, we can have fun together." Karen told him with a smile but he shrugged and avoided her. He sulked and walked into his room.
He arched an eyebrow. "What were you thinking?" I asked her angrily. "Were you actually thinking that you could make that silly brat happy?" He scowled.
"We're different and you know it. You should never beat a child that's not yours even though you're trying to discipline that child."
"What do you know?" I asked her back and frowned at me.
Silence draped the atmosphere, tension thickening as she narrowed her eyes at me. "I'm better than you. I'm not rich but I have my integrity and I won't let you hurt that kid." She said.
I ran my fingers through the front of my hair and looked at her. It suddenly felt like she was the owner of my house and I was a stranger. "You're sick." I muttered and she slapped me.
I held my face in agony and looked at her.
"You're the one who deserves medical treatment and not me." She replied.
It came as a shock to me. I didn't remember signing a contract that involved slapping. "I'm deducting your money."
She grinned, twinkling her fingers at me. "Brody," she called, it was barely more than a whisper. "You won't do that, would you? I'll tell the whole world that you made me drunk and had sex with me."
She was definitely trying to blackmail me, I shouldn't have signed the contract with a mad lady. "Alright, I won't deduct your money and don't slap me next time."
She smiled and walked towards Diego's room. It was really strange that I felt like a stranger in my own house. My phone rang and I hurriedly picked it up without checking the caller ID.
"Hey," the caller said.
"Huh, Alex?" I asked, surprise. He didn't tell me that he would come to my house.
"Yeah, I'm outside your door. I've been eavesdropping on your conversation."
I frowned and took a steadying breath. "What are you doing here? You didn't tell me you would be coming." I said, a little breathlessly.
He chuckled over the phone. "Open this fucking door." He replied and I dropped my phone on the table and walked towards the door.
Opening the door, I found him giggling excitedly. "What's going on?" He asked and walked into the house.
I gave him a shaky laugh and slammed the door after me. "Aren't you supposed to be at work?" I asked.
He shrugged and scratched his cheeks. "Yeah but I was able to make the production level of soap increase and I decided to stay at home for today."
"But you're not at home." I reminded him and walked to the fridge.
He chuckled and slumped down on the sofa making a ridiculous house. "Well, I don't want to be alone at home. It's really boring and my girlfriend is not around."
"Where's she?" I asked and closed the fridge back. Lillian, my maid walked into the parlor and I called her. "Why is my fridge empty?" I asked her, annoyed.
"I'm sorry sir." She apologized to me and quickly left.
I hissed and returned to the sofa. "Where's your contracted girlfriend?" He asked and looked at me with wide eyes.
"Contracted girlfriend?" I asked and chuckled at his remark. He was definitely right, we didn't even love each other because it was just a contract.
Karen's POV
Diego was crying when I walked in, I quickly slammed the door. I hated to see kids feel bad and I didn't want him to be sad either. Walking towards him, I held him and hugged him tightly. "I'm here for you, alright."
"Thanks Karen, I'm so happy that you're here." He replied and wiped his tears with his hands. I planted a kiss on his forehead and sat down on the bed.
"Which company do you own?" He asked and I looked at him, my eyes widened with shock. I couldn't believe that a small kid could ask such a question. He thought I was a rich lady.
"I don't have a job and I don't have a company either." I confessed and he appeared frantic.
"Oh no, Brody's mom won't like you. She wants a rich lady to marry her son so that the family business can grow." He explained slowly.
Looking at him, I smiled. I wasn't bothered about what he said because Brody didn't tell me that his mother would be coming.
"I'm sure I'll change her perspective about poor ladies." I replied jokingly and he smiled.
"My mom's an actress and my dad is a useless man." Diego said and the muscles in my neck complained. I looked at him shocked, why would he call his father a useless man?
"Your dad is not a useless man."
His face turned sour. "That's what my mom calls him."
I frowned and thought about how irresponsible his mother was, "She's probably joking."
"She's not, I'll definitely introduce you to my father one day because I don't think he would be around for the party." He replied and fear iced through my veins. I seemed confused as I stared at him with a blank expression.
"What party?" I was forced to ask.
He giggled excitedly. "Granny is coming and she organized a party for tomorrow. I think she wants to get to know you better." He said and fear fluttered in my stomach.
"I wasn't informed." I almost screamed.
