Chapter 16: Chapter 16

Karen's POV

Walking out of diego's room, I found him talking with his male visitor. "Karen, this is huh Alex." Brody introduced and I glared at him.

"I can introduce myself," Alex replied and looked at me, he smiled charmingly and I didn't seem to give him any response. "I'm Brody's best friend and personal assistant."

I nodded with a smile. "I'm Karen Miller." I replied and caught my breath. I felt myself flush with an inner warmth I couldn't contain. I slowly turned to look at Brody. "Can I see you for a second? There's something important we need to talk about."

He surveyed me thoughtfully and with a slow, sensual smile, he came over to meet me and we both climbed the stairs. We walked into the room and I hurriedly closed the door and turned to look at him. "How could you?" I asked, surprised as he pushed the words through his gritted teeth.

He blinked at my stunned attitude. "Are you alright?"

"Your mother is coming right?" I asked and looked at me, his expression changed and I felt that he knew that.

"And who told you that?" He asked with a frown.

I countered heatedly. "That's not the answer to my question."

"Alright, I knew she was coming." He admitted, reluctantly.

Momentarily panic-stricken, I stared at him shocked that he could do such a thing."This is bullshit." I said, aloud. I wasn't bothered to hide my puzzlement.

"I'm sorry I lied to you but I didn't know she would come."

"She's organizing a party." I reminded him.

"Yes, she is." He replied raggedly.

For once, I was not the least bit eager to take charge of the conversation. "I'm sorry." He apologized gently and I nodded.

I watched him leave the room and tears welled up in my eyes. It was a foolish decision to sign the contract.

Quietly, I walked out of the room and climbed down the stairs. Avoiding his gaze, I walked out of the house and took a bike to my former apartment.

Brody's POV

Alex turned to look at me and I smiled, embarrassed. "She's rude and arrogant." Alex retorted.

I chuckled. "I didn't know she'd turn out to be rude. Bill is the cause of all my problems, he was the one who told me about her." I explained.

"But damn, she's cute and she's got big..."

I interrupted immediately. "She's my girlfriend, she only becomes crazy when she's drunk." I told him and he laughed.

"How?" He inquired.

"I can't possibly tell you. It's confidential." I replied with a grin and he frowned.

"I'm in suspense."

"Die in suspense." I retorted and Diego came out of his room.

"Who's this little kid?" He asked, silently.

"My sister's son." I answered and Diego sat near me. "Do you want to watch a movie?" I asked and he nodded.

Alex stood up and yawned, I chuckled. "Are you going already?" I asked.

"Yeah," he answered and I also stood up and followed him to the door, we walked outside the house and he stood in front of his car. "I saw Sarah this morning in a shopping mall."

I frowned. "That's wonderful." I remarked.

He narrowed his eyes at me. "You were in love with her." He reminded me.

"Yeah, I was in love with her until she had sex with one of my staff." I told him and he chuckled.

"You're hilarious." He murmured and got into his car.

Bill was also coming in as Alex drove out of the compound. I looked at him with a frown, wondering why he came. I could sense that he was in love with Karen but she didn't love him. He came down from his car and walked towards me. "Good Morning, Mr Brody."

"Yeah," I paused and looked at him. "What are you doing here?"

He smiled. "I'm here to check up on my client."

I frowned, giving him an angry stare. "And who is your client?"

He blinked, confused at my question. Why did he want to see her? "Karen Miller."

Smiling, I replied. "She's alright, please leave now."

"I can't leave without seeing my client."

I was starting to lose my patience. "What do you want to see her for?" I asked.

"The terms, I want to confirm if the both of you followed the terms."

I chuckled and licked my lips. "We didn't drink alcohol, we didn't breach the terms of the contract and I assure you that I won't do anything that would put your client in danger." I assured him.

He looked at me and chuckled, surveying my words. "I haven't confirmed from Karen. I can't leave here without seeing her."

"Are you in love with her?"

"I'm not." He quickly answered.

"One more thing, you can't come to my house everyday to see Karen."

"If I'm less busy, I'll come."

I shot him an annoyed look, wondering why he was so stubborn. "Well, she's not at home but we can come to your office as soon as she comes back."

"I can't leave without seeing her."

Henry was in the parlor when I walked into the house. As soon as he noticed, a smile plastered on his face and he ran to hug me. I chuckled and slowly released myself from his grip. Slumping down on the sofa, I noticed Emily was not in the house.

"Where's Emily?"

"She went to work."

"Wow, that's great. Where does she work?" I asked with a smile.

He paused and looked at me. "I don't know if I should tell you." He said and I narrowed my eyes at him.

I raised an eyebrow in surprise. "Why are you being so dramatic?" I asked in a casual tone and opened the windows behind me.

"She wants to take Brody away from you." He answered and I chuckled. He was definitely lying to me.

"Brody isn't mine."

"She's applied for a job at his organization. Once she gets that job, her plan is to make sure Brody hates you so he can stop yeh contract."

Looking at him, it suddenly felt like he was telling the truth. "Emily would never do that to me, would she?"

"I have evidence." He replied and my eyes widened.
